High Precision Injection

In this cutting-edge generation of petrol direct
injection, the Piezo injectors are positioned very
close to the spark plugs. They inject the fuel at

high pressure and wit h extreme precision. T he

injectors’ central positioning means only part of
the combustion chamber needs to be filled with
an ignitable petrol-air mixture. This enables
efficient, “lean” engine operation, especially in
the heavily used part-throttle range.

Air vent control

Engine management si gnals the engine’s
cooling requirements while driving, rendering

a permanent airstream through the radiator

unnecessary. The air vents in front of the radiator
open or close depending on the environmental

temperature and road s peed. When shut they

improve aerodynamics, shorten the engine’s
warm-up time and so reduce fuel consumption.

Brake Energy Regeneration

To supply a battery with electrical energy, the generator (alternator) is
permanently driven using engine power, which demands additional fuel
consumption. Brake Energy Regeneration means the generator usually
only generates electricity when the driver either takes the foot off
the accelerator or brakes – previously unused kinetic energy is
transformed in coasting mode into electrical energy before being fed
into the battery. In this way, electricity is generated while coasting,
without consuming fuel.

Valvetronic

Valve lift control is ful ly variable in engines w ith Valvetronic. The resu lt is
improved engine respo nse and smoother runnin g, as well as a significa nt
drop in fuel consumption.

Optimum Shift Indicator

Timely gear shifts are one of the most effective and easiest ways to
save fuel. This is where Optimum Shift Indicator in conjunction with
6-speed manual transmission comes in. It shows the driver what gear
to use in order to save fuel.

Some BMW EfficientDynamics features are dependent on the car’s equipment and are not available for all
model variants. Your BMW partner will be happy to provide you with information on all equipment details.

s White direction indicators are an attractive
detail, adding to the sporting appearance of the
BMW 6 Series.

s Side indicator lights at the front lend the
profile a note of individuality.

s Brake Force Display helps following drivers
to judge your braking situation. Under light
braking, the lower three rows of LEDs in the rear
light units illuminate in red, along with the light
guide strips of the rear lights. In an emergency
stop, the upper two rows of LEDs also illuminate,
generating an especially bright braking light.

s Fog light s built into the front air dam,
improving safety in poor visibility conditions.
Ellipsoid freeform technology enables very
even illumination of the road.

s Xenon Headlights for high and low beam, with automatic headlight range control, significantly
improve road illumination at night, in bad weather or poor visibility. In combination with the optional
Adaptive Headlights with variable light distribution, they illuminate bends via electro­mechanical movement of the headlights when the driver turns the steering wheel.
o High-beam assistant aids the driver at night by automatically dimming the headlights for
oncoming traffic, when approaching vehicles up ahead, and in the presence of sufficient street
lighting.

s Headlight washing system for optimal
illumination of the road in all weather conditions.
Headlights are automatically cleaned in parallel
with the windscreen when the lights are on.

s Door handles in body colour.
o Soft Close Automatic system gently closes

both doors, using an electric motor for the last six
millimetres.

Series Coupé, this option adds a high-gloss
Black finish to the front and rear side window

commonly-used function of the navigation, audio or telephone systems, (e.g. a radio station or a
CD title), enabling the driver and front passenger to access eight favourite functions with ease.

o TV function enables the use of the 8.8-inch

Control Display for viewing terrestrial analogue
and digital television programmes (DVB-T)
when the car is stationary.

o Park Distance Control (PDC), front and
rear, aids parking and manoeuvring in tight
spaces. The proximity of obstacles is indicated
acoustically and visually in the Control Display.

o BMW Night Vision uses an infrared camera
to detect people and animals beyond the scope
of the headlights at a distance of up to 300
metres. The camera’s image appears in the
Control Display, enabling you to avoid danger in
good time on poorly lit roads.

s Radio BMW Business, 6-channel amplifier,
aerial diversity, scan function, CD player.
o Radio BMW Professional, features as radio
BMW Business plus dual-tuner reception and
MP3 decoder.

o DAB tuner for receiving digital radio

o HiFi system Professional LOGIC7
provides an enormously rich, intense acoustic
experience, with 13 loudspeakers (11 in the
Convertible) creating a near-perfect listening
experience. The central bass concept allows
for highly authentic reproduction of bass
frequencies via sill-mounted subwoofers.
o BMW Individual High-End Audio System
(shown here) features 16 extraordinary high­performance speakers (12 in the Convertible)
with exclusive neodymium magnet drivers that
create an acoustic experience comparable to
a live concert. Volume and equaliser settings
adjust automatically to the vehicle speed.

s Driving Dynamic Control (Sports mode),
at the touch of a button, engine response to the
accelerator becomes even more spontaneous.
In addition, power steering support is reduced
to provide improved road feedback. In models
with sports automatic transmission Steptronic
shift times are shorter and up-shifting is delayed
for a more sporty driving style.

o Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go

function. Driver assistance system for increased

comfort and active safety especially when

driving in slow-moving traffic. Combines Cruise

Control with active safe distance control in

bumper-to-bumper driving, with stopping and

automatic restart in typical “stop and go”

situations.

o Head-up Display projects important
information such as current speed directly in
the driver’s field of vision. Direction arrows from
the navigation system, Active Cruise Control
functions and Check Control data can also be
displayed.

s Cruise Control with braking function
stores, displays and maintains any selected
speed above approx. 30 km/h, even when going
downhill (activated by left-hand control stalk
on the steering column). After accelerating, the
pre-selected speed is automatically resumed.

s Info Display with precise, anti-glare
analogue instruments. Information such as
time, exterior temperature and trip mileage
can be selected at any time on LC displays in
the instrument panel.

o The Lane Departure Warning system

uses a camera to monitor when the vehicle is
approaching lane markings, and immediately
warns the driver via a steering wheel vibration.
The system is designed for country roads and
motorways, and is switched on and off with a
button in the multifunction steering wheel.

s 6-speed manual transmission for a ver y
sporty drive. Smooth, with perfect ratios and

precise, short-throw gearshifts. The tight
spacing of gear ratios means that you can

make even mor e individual us e of the engine
power provided.

o 6-speed sports automatic transmission
Steptronic offers a particularly sporting

transmission character with faster gearshifts
for an even more dynamic driving experience;
gearshift paddles are mounted on the sports
leather steering wheel (standard for the 635d).

adjustment and memory function for driver’s

upholstery) with fore/aft, seat height, backrest
and seat angle adjustment.

Seat surface and backrest are heated and
quickly radiate comfortable warmth (standard

automatic parking function for passenger-side

control. When activated, the rain sensor
engages windscreen wipers automatically and
controls their frequency. Headlights are
switched on automatically at low beam when it
starts getting dark.

more than a given light intensity from following
cars.

The self-learning remote control enables you
to open and close your garage door or driveway
gate directly from the car.

o Mobile phone preparation with Bluetooth
interface (incl. hands-free facility, charger

connection and aerial). A Bluetooth-compatible
phone can be connected using a snap-in
adapter (separately available), allowing control
via the multifunction steering wheel and voice

effortlessly raised or lowered with one hand
using the integrated swivel handle. The
advantage: a special folding mechanism folds
the soft top compartment flat, for optimisation
of luggage compartment volume. When
lowered, the compartment stores the soft top.

s Luggage compartment, fully lined
with textile lining, with integrated soft top
compartment (lowered).

s Luggage compartment, open, with soft-
top compartment raised: When the soft-top

is closed the soft-top compartment is not
required and can be easily moved forwards
and raised with one hand. The spacious and
easily-accessible boot is thus fully available
for luggage.

s Fully-automatic roof operation: the open/
close function occurs automatically at the
touch of a button (when vehicle is stationary).
The vertical rear window can be retracted
independently of the soft top. The soft top can
also be opened comfortably via the radio
remote control.

s Fin roof, fully-automatic. Sets unprecedented
standards in weather and noise insulation. In
connection with the retractable rear window, it
offers very effective ventilation of the vehicle
interior. When closed, it gives the convertible
a typical coupé-like silhouette; when opened,
it is stowed in the soft top compartment fitted in
the luggage compartment. Available in grey or
black.

s Comfort entry: seat backs are released
easily with one hand. The whole seat then
glides forwards for effortless entry and exit.

s Seat-integrated belt system for the
BMW 6 Series Convertible provides optimal
passenger protection and ideal seatbelt
ergonomics in every position.

o Wind deflector makes open-top driving
more pleasurable by reducing irritating drafts
and annoying isolated turbulence in the
shoulder and neck region. The wind deflector
is easy to operate and can be stowed away
compactly in the luggage compartment.

s Glass rear window, vertically retractable,
can be raised and lowered independently of the
soft top. When the roof is closed and the rear
window is lowered, the interior is effectively
ventilated for a pleasant climate. When the roof
is open, the raised rear window improves the
comfort of rear seat passengers.

o Ski bag enables up to two pairs of skis or

one snowboard to be transported even when
every seat is occupied. When not needed, the

feature pronounced side bolsters for excellent

height, cushion angle, backrest angle and
fore-and-aft position are all individually power­adjustable. The thigh support is manually
adjustable. Lumbar support is standard in
connection with the M leather steering wheel,
the perfect combination of dynamics and
comfort.

Exhaust tailpipes in dark chrome for an even
more assertive sporting character. The BM W
