Intended use

Your Black & Decker vacuum cleaner has been designed for wet and dry vacuum cleaning purposes. This appliance is intended for consumer indoor use only.

uRead all of this manual carefully before using the appliance.

uThe intended use is described in this manual. The use of any accessory or attachment or the performance of any operation with this appliance other than those recommended in this instruction manual may present a risk of personal injury.

uRetain this manual for future reference.

Using your appliance

uMake sure that the appliance is switched off before connecting to or disconnecting from the power supply.

uAlways take care when using the appliance.

uDo not use the appliance outdoors.

uNever pull the power supply cord to disconnect the plug from the socket. Keep the power supply cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges.

uIf the power supply cord is damaged during use, disconnect the appliance from the power supply immediately. Do not touch the power supply cord before disconnecting from the power supply.

uDisconnect the appliance from the power supply when not in use, before fitting or removing parts and before cleaning.

uDo not immerse the appliance in water.

After use

uSwitch off and remove the plug from the socket before leaving the appliance unattended and before changing, cleaning or inspecting any parts of the appliance.

uWhen not in use, the appliance should be stored in a dry place.

uChildren should not have access to stored appliances.

Inspection and repairs

uBefore use, check the appliance for damaged or defective parts. Check for breakage of parts, damage to switches and any other conditions that may affect its operation.

uDo not use the appliance if any part is damaged or defective.

uHave any damaged or defective parts repaired or replaced by an authorized repair agent.

uBefore use, check the power supply cord for signs of damage, ageing and wear.

uDo not use the appliance if the power supply cord or mains plug is damaged or defective.

uIf the power supply cord or mains plug is damaged or defective it must be repaired by the manufacturer or its service agent or a similarly qualified person in order to avoid a hazard. Do not cut the power supply cord and do not attempt to repair it yourself.

uNever attempt to remove or replace any parts other than those specified in this manual.

Additional safety instructions for vacuum cleaners

uBefore use, always make sure that the filter or dust bag is correctly seated.

uDo not use the appliance to pick up any materials that could catch fire.

uDo not use the appliance to pick up any materials that are burning or smoking (matches, cigarettes, hot ash, etc.).

uDo not block the vents of the appliance.

uAvoid inhaling dust when emptying the appliance or the dustbag.

uAlways keep the brush, crevice tool and other accessories away from the body whilst the unit is in operation.

uAlways empty the product outside.

uUse extra care when cleaning stairs

uAlways be aware of the position of the power cable and hose so as to avoid a tripping hazard during use.

uKeep the motor exhaust away from eyes and faces.

uKeep children and animals at a safe distance when using this appliance.

uAlways work from bottom up when using the appliance on stairs, and keep the appliance at least a stair below your working position.

uDo not use the appliance without the suction head or another suitable accessory mounted to the tube.

uKeep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts.

uDo not use damaged accessories.

uUse only Black & Decker accessories.

uDo not use the appliance on animals.

uDisconnect the product from the electrical supply before emptying, cleaning or carrying out any maintenance on the appliance.

Safety of others

uThis appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

uChildren should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

Residual risks.

Additional residual risks may arise when using the appliance/ tool which may not be included in the enclosed safety warnings. These risks can arise from misuse, prolonged use etc. Even with the application of the relevant safety regulations and the implementation of safety devices, certain residual risks can not be avoided. These include:

uInjuries caused by touching any rotating/moving parts.

uInjuries caused when changing any parts, blades or accessories.

uInjuries caused by prolonged use of an applianmce/tool.

When using any tool for prolonged periods ensure you take regular breaks.

uImpairment of hearing.

uHealth hazards caused by breathing dust developed when using your tool (example:- working with wood, especially oak, beech and MDF.)

Power plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.

uIf the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or an authorised Black & Decker Service Centre in order to avoid a hazard.

Extension cables & Class 1 product

uA 3-core cable must be used as your appliance is earthed and of Class 1 construction.

uUp to 30m (100 ft) can be used without loss of power.

Assembly

Removing the lid (fig.A)

uRelease the two clips (14) that hold the lid (13) in place.

uCarefully remove the lid from the appliance.

Fitting the lid (fig.A)

uFit the lid to the container (1) making sure that the recesses in the lid (13) line up with the clips (14).

uFasten the two clips (14).

Fitting the wheels (fig. B)

uRemove the lid as described above and turn the container

(1) upside down.

uInsert the four wheels (10), make sure that they click firmly into place.

Fitting the filter (fig. C)

uRemove the lid as described above.

uPlace the filter (16) over the plastic frame (15) making sure that the studs inside the filter line up with the receiving holes (17).

uTurn the filter (16) clockwise.

Removing the filter (fig. C)

uRemove the lid as described above.

uTurn the filter (16) anti-clockwise.

uLift the filter (16) off the plastic frame (15).

Fitting the paper dust bag (dry vacuuming only)

uRemove the lid as described above.

uFit the cardboard flange (18) of the paper dust bag (19) around the hose inlet (20).

uFit the lid as described above.

Connecting the hose (fig. E)

uInsert the hose connector (21) into the inlet (22) of the appliance.

uPress firmly until it clicks into place.

Disconnecting the hose (fig. E)

uPress the hose release button (23).

uPull the hose connector (21) out of the inlet (22) of the appliance.

Fitting the extension tube (fig. F)

uFirmly push one of the extension tubes (2) into the handle adaptor (3).

uIf required, attach the second extension tube (2) to the end.

Fitting accessories (fig. F)

The crevice tool (9) allows for vacuuming in narrow and hard- to-reach places.

The upholstery tool (8) allows for vacuuming on furniture, blinds, curtains, windows and stairs.

The floor head (11) is used for wet/dry vacuuming.

The accessories can be fit on both the handle adaptor (3) and the extension tubes (2).

uFirmly push the accessory onto the handle adaptor (3) or extension tube (2) as required.

uTo remove an accessory, pull the accessory from the handle adaptor or the extension tube.

Note: When not in use the the accessories can be stored on the accessory mounts (7).

Use

Switching on and off (fig. G)

uTo switch the appliance on, press the on/off switch (5) in to position I.

uTo switch the appliance off, press the on/off switch (5) in to position 0.

uTo switch the appliance into dust extraction mode, press the on/off switch (5) in to position II (WBV1405P only).

Vacuuming

uWhen operating the appliance, make sure that the hose is not trapped, twisted or blocked.

Note: When Vacuuming you should ensure that either the filter or the paper dust bag is fitted.

Wet pick up

Note: Before using the appliance to clean up spills etc., remove the filter or the paper dust bag depending on which is fitted.

u Fit the floor head (11).

Caution! The container (1) should be checked and emptied frequently.

Note: after wet use the container should be emptied and wiped. When the container is dry the filter or the paper dust bag should be re-fitted.

Dust extraction mode (WBV1405P only)

Warning! The socket outlet is only for the connection of power tools to the vacuum cleaner. Any other use of the socket outlet is not permitted.

Warning! Only suitable for tools rated 2000W or less. Warning! make sure that the power tool is switched off before connecting to the socket on the vacuum cleaner.

uPlug your tool into the power tool socket (12) on the side of the vacuum cleaner.

uInsert the handle adaptor (4) into the dust extraction hole of your tool (an adaptor may be required)

uPress the on/off switch (5) in to position II.

Note: When you turn on your power tool the vacuum cleaner will automatically start. When you turn off the power tool there will be a short delay before the vacuum cleaner turns off, this is to allow the tool and the flexible hose to be clear of debris.

Optimising the suction force

In order to keep the suction force optimised, the filters must be cleared regularly during use.

Storing the appliance

Warning! When storing the appliance, switch the appliance off and unplug it.

uPlace the appliance in an upright position.

uStore the appliance in a dry location. The appliance can be carried by the handle (6).

Maintenance

Your Black & Decker corded/cordless appliance/tool has been designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning.

Warning! Before performing any maintenance on corded/ cordless power tools:

uSwitch off and unplug the appliance/tool.

uOr switch off and remove the battery from the appliance/ tool if the appliance/tool has a separate battery pack.

uOr run the battery down completely if it is integral and then switch off.

uUnplug the charger before cleaning it. Your charger does not require any maintenance apart from regular cleaning.

uRegularly clean the ventilation slots in your appliance/tool/ charger using a soft brush or dry cloth.

uRegularly clean the motor housing using a damp cloth. Do not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.

Separate collection of used products and packaging allows materials to be recycled and used again. Re-use of recycled materials helps prevent environmental pollution and reduces the demand for raw materials.

Cleaning the filter

The filter (16) prevents particles and larger objects from entering the motor housing. The filter is fitted over a plastic frame (15) which contains a safety float valve.

Note: The float safety valve rises with the water level, blocking off the motor when the float safety valve reaches the top. The filter (16) is re-usable and should be cleaned regularly.

uRemove the lid as previously described.

uRemove the filter as previously described.

uBrush any loose dust off the filter or wash with water and a neutral detergent.

It is recommended that this filter is replaced regularly, depending upon the frequency of use. Replacement filters are available from your Black & Decker dealer: Cat Number WBVF10 u Refit the filter as previously described.

Replacing the paper dust bag

The paper dust bag should be replaced whenever it becomes full, worn or damaged.

Replacement dust bags are available from your Black & Decker dealer: Cat Number WBVB30-XJ

uRemove the lid as described above.

uCarefully pull the cardboard flange (18) of the paper dust bag (19) from the hose inlet (20).

uDispose of the paper dust bag (19) in normal household waste.

uWipe the inside of the container with a damp cloth. Do not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.

uFit a replacement dust bag as previously described.

Mains plug replacement for model WBV1405P (U.K. & Ireland only)

If a new mains plug needs to be fitted:

uSafely dispose of the old plug.

uConnect the brown lead to the live terminal in the new plug.

uConnect the blue lead to the neutral terminal.

uConnect the green/yellow lead to the earth terminal. Warning! Follow the fitting instructions supplied with good

quality plugs. Recommended fuse: 13A.
