IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should be followed including the following:
• Read all instructions carefully, even if you are familiar with the appliance.
• Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handle.
• To protect against electrical shock hazard kettle should be unplugged when filled from water tap.
• To protect against electrical hazards do not immerse any part of this appliance or cord set in water or other liquid.
• Close supervision is always important when an appliance is used near children.
• Always unplug this kettle immediately after using.
• To prevent burns and shock hazards unplug and allow to cool before cleaning.
• To minimize injury hazards, do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions,or if the appliance has been dropped or damaged in any manner. Return appliance to nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment.
• The use of attachments not recommended or sold by Black & Decker may cause hazards.
• To avoid electrical shock hazard do not use outdoors.
• To prevent damage do not let cord touch hot surfaces or allow cord to hang over edge of table or counter in such a way that kettle could be accidentally pulled over.
• To prevent damage do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
• Do not use for other than heating water. Other liquids or food will contaminate the interior.
• To protect against fire do not operate in the presence of explosive and/or flammable fumes.
• NEVER YANK ON CORD as this may damage the cord and eventually cause a shock hazard.
• If operated on wood furniture use a protective pad to prevent damage to delicate finishes.
• Use only deliming chemicals and techniques described in this booklet.
• The kettle is a high wattage appliance and no other appliance should be plugged into the same outlet or electric circuit at the same time. Overloading circuits can cause fuse problems and fire hazards.
• To avoid scalding always ensure lid is correctly secured in the jug body prior to operating.
• Scalding may occur if lid is removed while heating.
• Remove and replace lid carefully when hot.
• Extreme caution must be used when moving the kettle containing hot water. Never lift the kettle by its lid. Always use the body handle.
• Do not overfill. Overfilling may cause boiling water from being ejected through the spout. Maximum level is indicated on the water window.
• A kettle equipped with the automatic off feature should not be left connected to a wall outlet where room temperature is likely to fall to outdoor winter temperatures. At sub-zero temperatures the Automatic Control Thermostat may reset to boil and energize the element.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

1. Before first use, fill kettle with clean water to maximum capacity and boil. Discard water
and repeat once.
2. Do not overfill as this may cause water to spill out when boiling or pouring.
3. Operate the kettle only on a dry and level surface with lid properly secured in place.
4. Do not plug in dry. Do not pour water out while plugged in as damage to kettle may
occur. This kettle has a safety thermostat designed to disconnect the heating element if the kettle is accidentally plugged in empty or allowed to boil dry. When this occurs, allow to cool for a few minutes and then add some cold water to bring the temperature back to normal. The kettle is then ready for use again.
5. To avoid shock and operating hazards refer to an authorized service depot to repair a
defective or damaged kettle.
6. To avoid possible steam damage, turn spout opening away from walls or cabinets
when operating kettle.
