IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
While using electrical appliances, in order to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock,
and/or injury to persons, basic safety precautions should be followed, including the
following:
• Read all instructions carefully, even if you are familiar with the appliance.
• To protect against the risk of electric shock, DO NOT IMMERSE the appliance,
cord set or plug in water or other liquids.
• To clean, wipe the exterior with a damp cloth.
• Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used near children. Never
leave an appliance unattended when in use.
• If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its
service agent or a similarly qualified person in order to avoid a hazard.
• Switch off and remove the plug from the power outlet when not in use before
assembling or disassembling parts, cleaning or carrying out any maintenance of
assembling or disassembling parts, cleaning out any maintenance of the
appliance. Never pull the cord while unplugging out from power outlet.
• Do not operate any appliance with a damaged in any manner. Return the
complete appliance to your nearest authorized service facility for examination,
electrical repair, mechanical repair or adjustments to avoid any hazard.

appliance manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock or personal injury.
• Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table, counter, or touch hot surfaces.
• Avoid touching hot surfaces, use handles and knobs.
• Do not operate or place any part of this appliance on or near any hot surfaces
(such as gas or electric burner or in a heated oven).
• Do not abuse the cord. Never carry the appliance by the cord or yank it to
disconnect it from the outlet; instead, grasp the plug and pull to disconnect.
• When using an extension cord with your appliance, make sure the extension cord
is correctly wired, and rated for its use.
• This product is intended for household use only.
• Do not attempt to repair the appliance yourself; instead, take it to your Black &
Decker-owned or Authorized Service Centre for repair.

How to use your kettle
This product is designed for boiling water.
This Kettle must only be used with the base provided. If an extension cord is used, it
must be earthed.
Before first use, disconnect the kettle from the power supply before
filling with water. Unwind sufficient cord from the storage area under
the base (6) to reach the power socket. Fit the kettle to the base (6).
Open the lid (1) (Fig 1) and fill the kettle with clean water to maximum
capacity. The water level indicator (5) will assist you to measure the
correct amount of water. Do not overfill the Kettle.

Overfilling may cause boiling water to be ejected from the spout.
Steam may also escape from the spout.
The kettle must be allowed to cool before the lid is opened to prevent burns or
scalds.
Push the button (2) to the “I” position (Fig 1) and boil. The power ‘on’ indicator (4)
will come on. When the water has boiled, the kettle will switch off automatically and
the indicator light will go off.
Never open the lid while the Kettle is boiling. Always wait until the
kettle is cooled first.

Kettle may become hot in use.
To pour boiled water, lift the kettle from the power base and pour into
the cup/vessel. Discard the water and repeat.

Fill the kettle with water to the desired level (5). Do not overfill or there will be risk of
spillage or spitting. Never operate the kettle with less than one cup (250ml) of water
or without the lid securely in place.
Do not remove the kettle from the base (6) by returning the switch (2) to the "off" (0)
position.
Remember, if you do not wish the re-boil, turn the kettle off at the main plug (power)
point. The kettle may be switched off at any time by either pushing the switch on the
top of the kettle to the “O” position or by switching the power off at the power
outlet.
An automatically safety boil-dry cut-off has been fitted for protection against
overheating. It will operate if the kettle is switched on when containing insufficient
water. Always ensure the water inside the kettle covers the minimum mark on the
water level indicator gauge (5). If the cut-off has operated, switch the kettle off,
disconnect from the main power and switch on, the kettle will then boil and cut-off
as in normal operation.

How to care for your kettle
Wipe the exterior of the kettle with a soft, damp cloth or sponge. Remove stubborn
spots with a cloth moistened with mild liquid detergent. Remove the detergent with
a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or powders. Never immerse the
kettle, base, cord or plug in water or in other liquids.
From time to time, dependent on the nature of your water supply, you may need to
clean inside of the kettle. This may be done in the following manner:
• Half fill the kettle with ordinary tap water
• Add 30ml of white vinegar to the water in the kettle
• Boil the mixture and allow it to stand for 30 seconds
• Repeat this process two or three times. Empty, rinse well and use in the normal
way.
Protecting the environment
Separate collection. This product must not be disposed of with normal
household waste.
Should you find one day that your Black & Decker product needs replacement, or if
it is of no further use to you, do not dispose it off with other household waste. Make
this product available for separate collection.
Separate collection of used products and packaging allows materials to be
recycled and used again. Use of recycled materials helps prevent
environmental pollution and reduces the demand for raw materials.
Local regulations may provide for separate collection of electrical products from the
household, at municipal waste sites or by the retailer when you purchase a new
product.
Black & Decker provides a facility for the collection and recycling of Black & Decker
products once they have reached the end of their working life. To take advantage of
this service please return your product to any authorised repair agent who will
collect them on our behalf. You can check the location of your nearest authorised
repair agent by contacting your local Black & Decker office at the address indicated
