Please read the following safety requirements and operation instructions provided in this booklet before using the Automotive Charger. Retain this booklet for future reference and use.

The purpose of RIM’s Automotive Charger is to enable you to recharge your BlackBerry Wireless Handheld in a vehicle.

DO NOT USE YOUR HANDHELD WHILE OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE.

It is unsafe to use your handheld while operating a motor vehicle.

If you need to use your handheld while operating a motor vehicle, ask a passenger to do so on your behalf. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONNECT THE AUTOMOTIVE CHARGER TO YOUR HANDHELD WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING.

It is unsafe to plug the Automotive Charger into your handheld while operating a motor vehicle. You can use the Automotive Charger with your handheld turned on or off while your vehicle is stationary or in motion. However, due to the coordination required to plug the Automotive Charger cable into your handheld, connect the Automotive Charger to your handheld only when your vehicle is stationary.

IN THE EVENT THAT YOU USE THE HANDHELD WHILE OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE, YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK, AND MAY BE IN BREACH OF THE LAWS AND REGULATIONS OF THE COUNTRY IN WHICH YOU DRIVE. RIM ACCEPTS NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE ARISING OUT OF SUCH USE OF YOUR HANDHELD BY YOU.

Please note that the engine of your vehicle must be running, and your vehicle’s battery must be operational in order for the Automotive Charger to charge your handheld.

DO NOT USE THE AUTOMOTIVE CHARGER OUTSIDE OR IN AN AREA EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS.

The Automotive Charger is for indoor use only. Never spill liquid of any kind on the Automotive Charger or your handheld.

DO NOT PLACE THE AUTOMOTIVE CHARGER OR YOUR HANDHELD BEING CHARGED ON ANY UNSTABLE SURFACE AND KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.

Safety information

If the Automotive Charger is placed on any unstable surface, such as a dashboard, it may fall, thereby potentially causing serious injury to a child or adult and/or serious damage to your handheld. Place the Automotive Charger in a secure and stable spot and route the cable in a way that reduces the risk of injury to others (including injury due to tripping or choking). The Automotive Charger should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label.

Never push objects of any kind into your handheld through openings as they may short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock.

Unplug the Automotive Charger before cleaning it. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a dry cloth to clean the unit.

Immediately unplug the Automotive Charger from your handheld and from the Cigarette Lighter Adapter (CLA), and refer the Automotive Charger for service to qualified service personnel if:

•The CLA, serial port connector of the Automotive Charger or the serial port of your handheld is damaged.

•Liquid has been spilled on the Automotive Charger.

•The Automotive Charger has been exposed to rain or water.

•The Automotive Charger becomes very hot to the touch.

•The Automotive Charger has been dropped or damaged in any way.

•The Automotive Charger does not operate normally by following the instructions contained in this booklet.

•The Automotive Charger exhibits a distinct change in performance.

Use of the Automotive Charger is specifically limited to use in accordance with the directions provided in this booklet. Improper use or failure to observe the safety requirements may result in damage and/or personal injury and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the Automotive Charger to its normal operation. Do not attempt to disassemble the Automotive Charger.

For information on qualified service personnel in your area, please contact your network operator or service provider.

Safety information

Failure to observe all these instructions will void the Limited Warranty, and may lead to suspension or denial of services to the offender, or legal action, or both.

Charging the handheld

1.Insert the serial port connector at the end of the charger into the serial port of your handheld.

2.Plug the Automotive Charger cord into a CLA.

3.Allow the handheld to charge to full battery power before disconnecting it from the Automotive Charger. When the handheld is charging, the battery power indicator will change to a charging indicator. Once your handheld is fully charged, the battery power indicator will replace the charging indicator.

After you have finished using the Automotive Charger, unplug it from the CLA.

Operational Requirements

The Automotive Charger model ACC-03520-001 is for use with the BlackBerry 5810™ and BlackBerry 5820™ Wireless Handheld models only.

Your Automotive Charger can be used with most 12-24 Vdc CLAs found in cars, trucks and other motor vehicles. The Automotive Charger is not designed for use with any other power sources.

Als u uw handheld tijdens het rijden nodig hebt, vraag dan aan een passagier om deze voor u te bedienen. PROBEER DE AUTOOPLADER NIET OP UW HANDHELD AAN TE SLUITEN TERWIJL U RIJDT.

Het is niet veilig om de auto-oplader op uw handheld aan te sluiten terwijl u een voertuig bestuurt. U kunt uw handheld opladen terwijl u stilstaat of rijdt. Vanwege de bewegingen die nodig zijn om de kabel van de auto-oplader op de handheld aan te sluiten, mag u dit alleen doen als uw voertuig stil staat.

HET GEBRUIK VAN DE HANDHELD TIJDENS HET BESTUREN VAN EEN VOERTUIG IS VOOR UW EIGEN RISICO, EN KAN WETTELIJK VERBODEN ZIJN IN HET LAND WAAR U RIJDT. RIM AANVAARDT GEEN ENKELE AANSPRAKELIJKHEID VOOR ENIGE SCHADE OF VERLIES ALS GEVOLG VAN EEN DERGELIJK GEBRUIK VAN UW HANDHELD.

Voor het opladen van uw handheld met de auto-oplader, moet de motor van uw voertuig draaien en de accu goed werken.

Veiligheidsinstructies

OPPERVLAK, EN HOUD ZE BUITEN BEREIK VAN KINDEREN.

Als de auto-oplader op een onstabiel oppervlak wordt geplaatst, zoals een dashboard, kan de oplader eraf vallen, waarbij het risico ontstaat op ernstige verwondingen en/of schade aan uw handheld. Plaats de auto-oplader op een veilige en stabiele plek en leg de kabel zodanig neer dat het risico op verwondingen (zoals struikelen over of verstrikt raken in de kabel) zo klein mogelijk is. Gebruik de auto-oplader alleen met de stroombronnen zoals aangegeven op het label.

Steek niets in de openingen van uw handheld. Dit kan kortsluiting veroorzaken, met mogelijk brand of elektrische schokken tot gevolg.

Maak de auto-oplader los als u deze wilt schoonmaken. Gebruik geen vloeibare schoonmaakmiddelen en geen schoonmaakmiddelen in een spuitbus. Gebruik een droge doek om het apparaat schoon te maken.

In de volgende situaties dient u de auto-oplader direct los te maken van de handheld en van de adapter voor de sigarettenaansteker, en de auto-oplader ter reparatie aan te bieden bij gekwalificeerd servicepersoneel:

•De adapter voor de sigarettenaansteker of de seriële poort van de auto-oplader of handheld is beschadigd.

•U hebt vloeistof gemorst over de auto-oplader.

•De auto-oplader is in contact is geweest met regen of water.

•De auto-oplader wordt erg heet.

•De auto-oplader is gevallen of is op andere wijze beschadigd.

•De auto-oplader functioneert niet normaal wanneer u de instructies in dit boekje opvolgt.

•De auto-oplader gaat beduidend slechter werken.

Het correcte gebruik van de auto-oplader is specifiek beperkt tot de richtlijnen die in dit instructieboekje worden gegeven. Incorrect gebruik van de oplader of het niet voldoen aan de veiligheidseisen, kan schade en/of verwondingen tot gevolg hebben. Bij schade moet de auto-oplader door gekwalificeerde technici worden gerepareerd om de auto-oplader weer normaal te laten functioneren. Haal de auto-oplader niet uit elkaar.

Veiligheidsinstructies

Voor informatie over gekwalificeerd servicepersoneel in uw omgeving, kunt u contact opnemen met uw netwerkaanbieder of service-provider.

Indien deze instructies niet worden opgevolgd, vervalt de Beperkte Garantie, en kan worden overgegaan tot het opschorten of ontzeggen van diensten aan de overtreder, gerechtelijke vervolging, of beide.
