CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

1.1 BEFORE YOU START

Tha nk you for choosing ou r pro du ct. Befo re you start ins talling the

 Prepare a dry and stable wo rking environment with

 Always disconnect the computer from power outlet

bag, ground yourself properly by touching any safely
grounde d ap pliance, o r use g ro unded wris t strap to
remove the static charge.

 Avo id tou ch ing the compone nts o n m o the rboa rd o r the

rea r side of the board unless necessa ry. Hold the boa rd
on the edge , do not try to be nd o r flex the board .

CHAPTER 2: HARDWARE INSTALLATION

2.1 INSTALLING CENTRAL PROCESSING UNI T (CPU)

Step 1: Remove the socket protection cap.

Step 2: Pull the lever toward direction A from the socket and then rai se the

lever up to a 90-degree angle.

Step 3: Look for the white triangle on socket, and the gold triangle on

CPU should point towards thi s white tri angle. The CPU will fit onl y
in th e cor r ec t or i en t at io n.

Step 4: Hol d the CPU down fi rmly, and then close the lever toward di rect

B to complete the install ation.

Step 5: Pu t the CPU Fan on the CPU and bu c kl e it. Connect the CPU

FAN power cable to the CPUFAN. This completes the i nstallation.

Note: Ple ase upd ate the B IOS to the latest version while using A M2+ CPUs. Due to the lates t CPU

transition, you may encounter the situation that the new system failed t o boot while using new
AM2+ CPUs. In this c ase, please i nstall one standar d AM2 CPU to boot your s ystem, and
update the latest BIOS from our website for AM2+ CPUs support.

2.2 FAN HEADERS

These fan headers support cooling-fans built in the computer. The fan
cable and connector m ay be different accordi ng to the fan m anufacturer.
Connect the fan cable to the connector while matching the black wire to
pin#1.

The CPUFAN and SYSFAN support 4-pin and 3-pin head connector. When connecting
with wires onto c onnect ors, please note that the red wire is the positi ve and shoul d be

1. Unlock a DIMM sl ot by pressing the retaining clips outward. Align a
DIM M on the sl ot such that the notch on the DIMM matches the
break on the Slot.

2. Insert the DIMM vertically and firmly into the sl ot until the retaining
chip snap back in place and the DIMM is properly seated.

CHAPTER 4: RAID FUNCTIONS

4.1 O

PERATION SYSTEM

4.2 RAID ARRAYS

RAI D supports the f ollowing types of R AID arrays :

RAID 0: RAID 0 defines a disk striping scheme that improves disk read and write times for

many applications.

RAID 1: RAID 1 defines techniques for mirroring data.
RAID 1+0: RAID 1+0 combines the techniques used in RAID 0 and RAID 1.

4.3 HOW RAID WORKS

RAID 0:

The controller “ stripes” data across multiple drives in a RAID 0 array system. It b reaks
up a large file into smaller blocks and performs disk reads and writes across multiple
drives in parallel. The size of each b lock is determined by the stripe size parameter,
which you set during the creation of the RAID set based on the system environment. This
technique reduces overall disk access time and offers high b andwidth.

RAID 1:

Every read and write is actually carri ed out in parallel across 2 disk d rives in a RAID 1
array system. The mirro red (b ackup) co py of the data can reside on the same disk or on a
second redundant drive in the array. RAID 1 provides a hot-standby copy of data if the
active volume or drive is corrupted or becomes unavail able because o f a hardware failure.

RAID techniques can be applied for high-availability solutions, or as a form of automatic
backup that eliminates tedious manual backups to more expensive and less reliable
me d i a .

5.1 DRIVER INSTALLATION NOTE

After you installed your operating system, please i nsert the Fully Setup
Driver CD into your opti cal dri ve and install the driver for better system
performance.

You will see the following window after you insert the CD

The set up guide will auto detect yo ur mothe rboard and operating syste m.

Note:

If this window didn’t show up after y ou insert the Driver CD, please use file browser to
loc ate and execut e th e fil e SETU P.EXE under yo ur opt i cal dr i ve .

A. Driver Installation

To install the dri ver, please click on the Driver i con. The setup guide will
list the compatibl e driver for your motherboard and operating system.
Click on each devi ce driver to launch the installati on program.

B. Software Installatio n

To install the software, please click on the Software i con. The setup guide
will list the software available for your system, click on each software title
to la unch the insta llatio n pr ogr a m.

5.3 EXT RA INFORMATION

CPU Overheated

If the system shutdown automati cally after power on system for
seconds, that means the CPU protecti on function has been activated.

When the CPU is over heated, the motherboard will shutdown
automati cally to avoid a damage of the CPU, and the system may not
power on again.

In this case, please double check:

1. The CPU cooler surface is placed evenly with the CPU surface.

2. CPU fa n is rotate d normally.

3. CPU fan speed is fulfilling wi th the CPU speed.

After confirmed, pl ease follow steps below to rel ief the CPU protection
function.

1. Remove the power cord from power supply for seconds.

2. Wait for secon ds.

3. Plug i n the power cord and boot up the system.

Or you can:

1. Clear the CMOS data.
(See “Close CMOS Header: JCM OS1” section)

2. Wait for secon ds.

3. P ower on the system again.
