Before initial use carefully read these Instructions in order to get
acquainted with your new appliance. Please, save the Instructions
for future reference.
SAFETY MEASURES
When using this unit, the following safety precautions should always
be followed:
Do not clean the unit using chemical solvents, abrasive materials
and aerosol cleaners – as they may ooze into the telephone and become a cause of damages that are not covered by the warranty. If necessary, use a damp cloth for cleaning.
Do not expose the phone to high temperatures, humidity and direct
sunlight.
We have done everything to make this phone meet the require-
ments of the quality standards. However, if some malfunction occurs, please do not try to repair it by yourself.
Do not install this unit near water, for example, near a bathtub,
washbowl, kitchen sink, or other sources of high humidity. Electrical equipment may be a cause of serious injuries if you use it being wet or standing in water.
If you dropped the base unit into water, do not touch it until after
you unplug the AC adapter from the AC outlet; then take it out by the disconnected cords.
When mounting the phone on the wall, make sure that there is no
concealed wiring in the wall.
Special safety precautions
This unit uses chemical DC power sources. Please read and follow
these special safety precautions during their use:
Before using the batteries and rechargeable batteries carefully
read instructions on their use;
To charge the rechargeable batteries, use only the charger units
recommended by the manufacturer.
Do not allow children to use the units.Do not use batteries with visible oxidation marks;If the oxidation products get into your eyes or on to skin immediately
rinse with large amounts of water; in case of accidental swallowing – drink large amounts of water and induce vomiting, then call the doctor;
Do not use new and old batteries simultaneously;Do not dispose of the batteries in a fire. They may explode;Check with the local waste management codes for special disposal
instructions;
Do not open or mutilate the batteries;The electrolyte may be toxic if swallowed.Exercise care in handling batteries in order not to short the battery
with conductive materials such as rings, bracelets, keys, etc. The battery and/or conductor may overheat and cause burns.

INSTALLING AND
CONNECTING
1. Insert the rechargeable battery [30] into the battery compartment [31] on the handset [1], then close the battery compartment with
the cover [42] (see Fig. C).
2. Insert a 9V battery (6F22 type) into the battery compartment [35] on the base unit [28] then close the compartment [35] with the cover [36] and fasten the cover [36] with the screw [37] (see Fig. D).
3. Connect one end of the phone line cord [42] to the phone line jack [40] at the base unit [28] rear side, and the other end of the phone line cord [42] to the phone line socket.
4. Insert the AC adapter [41] cable plug into its jack [39] at the base unit [28] rear side. Insert the AC adapter [41] plug into a wall outlet of your 220V electric mains (see Fig. E).
5. Place the handset [1] on the base unit [28] (see Fig. B). Before initial use you should fully charge the battery for about 15 hours. When you place the handset [1] on the base unit [29] for charging, you should hear a short beep.

Notes:
1. When you are not using the phone (for example, when you are not at home), place the handset on the base unit so that the battery will always be charged.
2. To ensure the maximum operating distance and noise-free operation, install the base unit in a convenient location away from electrical appliances such as a refrigerator, personal computer, TV or another phone.
3. You can dial a phone number in the pulse or tone mode. To choose the appropriate mode, just slide the P-T switch [38] to the “Tone” position for tone dialing and to the “Pulse” position for pulse dialing.
The handset of the ACTIVE XA1001 phone will not operate in case
of a power failure. Therefore, for essential communications such as medical emergencies you should have another phone that does not requires an electric mains supply and will be operable in case of a power failure.
If you are moving during a conversation and noise interferes with
the conversation, this may be caused by some interference, the source of which is located between the handset and base unit, for example, you may be too close to another phone or other electric equipment. Move to another location as far from the interference source as possible and press the CH button [10]. If you not do this, the call may be disconnected.
MAKING CALLS
Making calls
1. Press the PHONE button [3], the indicator light [2] lights up.
2. Dial a phone number.
Answering calls
When the phone rings, press the PHONE button [3].
Note:
For noise-free conversation, it is necessary to extend the antennas
[11] and [29] on the handset and base unit.
Finishing calls
To finish a call, press the PHONE button [3], the indicator light [2]
will go out.
Redialing the last dialed number
1. Press the PHONE button [3], the indicator light [2] lights up.
2. Press the LNR/P button [6] and the last dialed number will be automatically redialed. (You can redial a number consisting of no more than 32 digits.)
Microphone mute
You can turn off the handset microphone during a conversation.
The calling party will not hear you.
1. Press the SEC button [4]. (When the microphone is turned off, the indicator light [2] flashes and the handset buttons are locked.)
2. To cancel the microphone mute, press the SEC button [4] once again.
Inserting a pause in the dialed number
When saving a phone number in the phone memory, press the

LNR/P button [6] where the pause is needed (if a long pause is necessary, then press the LNR/P button [6] several times). For example, if you are dialing through a PBX and should dial '9' to access the PBX trunk, press the LNR/P button [6] after entering '9' and then enter the number you want to store.
Storing a number in the phone memory
You can store 16 phone numbers in the phone memory, of up to 20
digits each.
1. Press the MEM button [8], the indicator light [2] starts to flash.
2. Enter the number you want to store in the memory.
3. Press the MEM button [8] once again.
4. Enter a two-digit number (01 to 16) under which you want to store the entered phone number.
5. After completing the above steps you will hear a beep and the indicator light [2] will go out.
Dialing a number stored in the phone memory
1. Press the PHONE button [3], the indicator light [2] lights up.
2. Press the MEM button [8].
3. Enter the two-digit number (01 to 16) corresponding to the phone number you want to dial
Note:
You can store in the phone number just a part of a phone number
(for example, the international telephone code) and combine memory dialing with normal phone number dialing.
Deleting a number stored in the phone memory
1. Press the MEM button [8], the indicator light [2] starts to flash.
2. Press the MEM button [8] once again.
3. Enter the two-digit number (01 to 16) corresponding to the phone number you want to delete.
4. After completing the above steps you will hear a beep and the indicator light [2] will go out.
Changing the ringer tone
1. Press the VOLUME/RINGER / button [7] (the ringer tone cannot be changed during a call), the indicator light [2] lights up.
2. To select the desired ringer tone, press one of the buttons 1…8 .
3. Press the VOLUME/RINGER / button [7] once again, the indicator light [2] goes out.
Changing the ringer volume
1. Press the VOLUME/RINGER / button [7] (the ringer vol- ume cannot be changed during a call), the indicator light [2] lights up.

Handset locator
1. To locate the handset, it is necessary to press the PAGE ))) button [18] and in so doing the handset will beep.
2. To cancel the handset locator function, press the PAGE [18] once again or press the PHONE button [3] on the handset.

ANSWERING MACHINE
Setting the clock
1. Press the CLK button [26] and hold it for no less than 2 seconds. You will hear 'Sunday'.
2. Using the << [23] è >> [24] buttons select the correct day of the week.

7. Press the CLK will say the day of the week and time you have set.
Note:
If you want to know the time, just press the CLK

Recording ‘outgoing message 1’ (OGM1)
The OGM1 is used in the normal answering machine mode, when
the answering machine offers to leave a message. The standard pre­recorded 'outgoing message 1' (OGM1) is as follows: “Please leave your message after the tone”. You can record any other 'outgoing message' with up to 60 seconds duration.
1. Press and hold the OGM1 button [25] until a short beep is heard.
2. After the beep say your message talking clearly as close to the base unit microphone as possible.
3. To stop recording, press the STOP button [16]. Your new message will be automatically played after the end of recording. If you want to record a new message, repeat the above steps.
Recording ‘outgoing message 2’ (OGM2)
The OGM2 is used in the ’Answer only' mode, when the answer-
ing machine offers to call back later and the caller is not able to leave a message for you. The standard pre-recorded 'outgoing message 2' (OGM2) is as follows: “Please call later”. You can record any other 'outgoing message' with up to 15 seconds duration.
1. Press and hold the OGM2 button [12] until a short beep is heard.
2. Say your message talking clearly as close to the base unit microphone as possible.
3. To stop recording, press the STOP button [16]. Your new message will be automatically played after the end of recording. If you want to record a new message, repeat the above steps.
Setting the answering mode
When setting the message on the answering machine you can select
one of two options: the normal answering machine mode (OGM1) and
button [26] again. You will hear ‘1 AM’

the ‘Answer only’ mode (OGM2). To do this, press and hold the ANS ON/OFF button [27] until you hear a short beep, then your answering machine will play back the 'outgoing message' selected. If you want to select the other 'outgoing message', repeat the above actions.
Answering machine on/off
When the answering machine is turned on, the "Answer ON"
indicator [21] is lighted.
To turn the answering machine on or off simply press the ANS
ON/OFF button [27] and you will hear: “Answer ON” or “Answer OFF” message.
Note:
1. When the answering machine is on, it automatically answers after two rings, if there are new messages in the memory, and after four rings, if new messages have not been recorded.
2. When the answering machine is off, it automatically answers after 8 rings, if there are new messages in the memory, and after 10 rings, if new messages have not been recorded.
3. If the answering machine has started to record a new message, but you have decided to answer the calling party yourself, you can interrupt the message recording and answer the call by simply pressing the PHONE button [3] or by lifting the handset of another phone connected to the same phone line.
Memory full
60 messages can be recorded into the answering machine memory.
When the memory is full, the machine automatically switches to the 'Answer only' mode and the indicator light [20] flashes rapidly
To prevent the answering machine memory overfilling, you should
erase the messages after listening to them.
Listening to messages
If your answering machine has recorded a new message or memo,
the indicator light [20] will be flashing. The number of flashes between long pauses shows the number of recorded messages or memos
1. To listen to the new messages, press and hold the PLAY/PAUSE button [17] for more than 2 seconds.
2. To listen to all messages, press and release the PLAY/PAUSE button [17].
Actions during messages playback
1. Press the << button [23] to repeat the current message playback.
2. Press the << button [23] twice to listen to the previous message.
3. Press the >> button [24] to listen to the next message.
4. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button [17] to pause a message playback or to resume playback.
5. Press the DELETE button [15] to erase the current message.
6. Press the STOP button [16] to stop playback.
7. Press the VOLUME -/+ buttons [13] to set the desired volume of message being played back.
Note:
After the end of the last message you will hear: “End of message”,
two short beeps and then there will be a 8 second pause. During this pause you can press the << button [23] to listen to the last message once again or press the PLAY/PAUSE button [17] to play back all of the messages once again.

All messages erasing
To erase all of the messages and memos after the answering machine
has played them back, press and hold the DELETE button [15] until a short beep is heard.
If you have changed your mind, you can recover all the erased
messages (only until new messages are recorded). To do this, press and hold the DELETE button [15] once again until a short beep is heard.
Note:
New messages cannot be erased.
Recording a memo message
You can use your answering machine to record a memo message
to yourself or to other answering machine users.
1. Press and hold the MEMO button [22] until a short beep is heard.
2. Say your message as close to the base unit microphone as possible.
3. To stop recording, press the STOP button [13].
2-way recording
Your answering machine lets you record conversation of both
speaking parties at any moment during a call. During the recording a beep will be heard each 15 seconds so as to let the calling party to know that the conversation is being recorded.
1. To start recording, press and hold the MEMO button [22] for 4 seconds, until you hear two beeps.
2. To stop recording, press and hold the STOP button [16] until you hear a beep.
New message warning
You can turn on the new message warning mode so you will hear a
beep every 8 seconds on receiving each new message.
1. Press and hold the STOP button [16] until you hear four beeps.
2. To disable the mode, repeat the same action.
Erasing changed ‘outgoing message’
You can erase the 'outgoing message' you have recorded and to
return the standard pre-recorded outgoing message.
1. Press the OGM 1 button [25] or OGM 2 button [12] to play the message.
2. While playing back the 'outgoing message' press the DELETE button [16].
ANSWERING MACHINE
REMOTE OPERATION
Your answering machine can be operated from any external touch-
tone phone.
To do that, the remote access code (ID-code) is needed. The factory preset ID-code is '0000'; you can change it to any
other four-digit code.
Setting the remote operation code
1. Press and hold the >> button [24] until you hear the words ‘Please enter your ID-code’ and then you will hear 'zero'.

2. Pressing the << [23] or >> [24] buttons, select the first digit of the ID-code.
3. Press the ANS ON/OFF button [27] to confirm the selection.
4. Pressing the << [23] or >> [24] buttons, select the second digit of the ID-code.
5. Press the ANS ON/OFF button [27] to confirm the selection.
6. Pressing the << [6] or >> [7] buttons, select the third digit of the ID- code.
7. Press the ANS ON/OFF button [27] to confirm the selection.
8. Pressing the << [23] or >> [24] buttons, select the fourth digit of the ID-code.
9. Press the ANS ON/OFF button [27] to finish the ID-code setting.
Checking messages
1. Calling your number from a touch-tone phone.
2. During the 'Outgoing message' (OGM) playback press the '*' (asterisk) button twice. The OGM playback will stop.
3. Enter your ID-code. If you entered the correct code, you will hear two beeps, if not – four beeps. If the code was wrong, you can re-enter it two more times. If all three codes were wrong, the answering machine dis­connects the call.
4. To listen to the messages, press '5'.
5. During messages playback: Enter '99' to stop playback. Enter '44' to repeat the current message playback. Enter '55' to pause the playback; enter '5' to resume playback. Enter '66' to listen to the next message. Enter '77' to erase the current message. Enter '88' to return to the first message.
6. Other actions that can be performed during remote operation Enter '1' to listen to the 'outgoing message 1' (OGM1). Enter '2' to listen to the 'outgoing message 2' (OGM2). Enter '3' to turn the answering machine on/off. Enter '*1' to record OGM1 (Press any button to stop recording; the ‘outgoing message’ will automatically be played back.) Enter '*2, to record OGM2 (Press any button to stop recording; the ‘outgoing message’ will automatically be played back.) Enter '*3' to enable or disable the ’Answer only’ mode. The appropriate ‘outgoing message’ will automatically be played back Enter '*4' to change the CBT code – enter the new code twice. Enter '*5' to change the ID-code – enter the new code twice. Enter '*6' to save all of your messages. Enter '*7' to erase all of your messages. Enter '*8' to listen to what is going on near your answering ma­chine for 15 seconds. Enter '*8' to keep on listening. Enter '*9' to disconnect.
Turning on your answering machine
1. Calling your number from a touch-tone phone. The answering machine automatically answers after 8 rings, if there are new messages in the memory, and after 10 rings, if new messages have not been recorded. You will hear a long beep.
2. Enter your ID-code.

If you have entered the correct code, you will hear a beep and
your answering machine now is in the normal answering mode (OGM1). If you are not going to perform any other operations, just hang up.
If you often keep your answering machine turned on while being
at home, you can give the CBT (Call Break-Through) code to several people (e.g. your family) and they will be able to alert you about their calls.
The CBT code consists of four digits whilst the factory preset is
0001.
Setting the CBT code
1. Press and hold the << button [23] for 2 seconds until you here the words ‘Please enter the CBT Code’ and then you will hear 'zero'.
2. Using the << [23] and >> [24] buttons select the first digit of the code.
3. Press the ANS ON/OFF button [27] to confirm the selected digit.
4. Using the << [23] and >> [24] buttons select the second digit of the code.
5. Press the ANS ON/OFF button [27] to confirm the selected digit.
6. Using the << [23] and >> [24] buttons select the third digit of the code.
7. Press the ANS ON/OFF button [27] to confirm the selected digit.
8. Using the << [23] and >> [24] buttons select the fourth digit of the code.
9. Press the ANS ON/OFF button [27] to finish the code setting.
Using the CBT code
If you are at home and your answering machine is on, then the
callers knowing the CBT code can alert you to answer their calls. To do this, a caller should:
1. Wait for the answering machine to answer.
2. During the 'Outgoing message' (OGM) playback press the '*' (asterisk) button twice.
3. Wait for a long beep.
4. Enter the CBT code.
5. After entering of the CBT code a beep will also be heard. When the caller enters the VIP-code your answering machine will
sound a long (30 seconds) loud beep alerting you to answer the call.

Before using the phone always check: connection of the telephone
line cord to the phone line socket and the base unit; connection of the AC adapter to the mains and the base unit; inserting of the rechargeable battery into the handset.
Problem Remedy
You cannot make a call or answer a call
- Check that the AC adapter is plugged into a wall outlet
- Move closer to the base unit
- If the indicator light on the handset is flashing, charge the battery
- Disconnect the phone from the line, wait for 30 seconds and reconnect

- Check that the battery is charged. If the indicator light on the handset is flashing, charge the battery

- You are too far from the base unit, move closer to the base unit.
- If the indicator light on the handset is flashing, charge the battery
- Before initial use you should fully charge the battery for about 15 hours
- May be it is time to replace the battery
