ACTIVE XA2020 / ACTIVE TWIN XA2020
Before initial use carefully read these Instructions in order to get
acquainted with your new appliance. Please, save the Instructions
for future reference.
SAFETY MEASURES
When using this unit, the following safety precautions should al-
ways be followed:
Do not clean the unit using chemical solvents, abrasive materials
and aerosol cleaners – as they may ooze into the telephone and
become a cause of damages that are not covered by the warranty.
If necessary, use a damp cloth for cleaning.
Do not expose the phone to high temperatures, humidity and direct
sunlight.
We have done everything to make this phone meet the require-
ments of the quality standards. However, if some malfunction occurs,
please do not try to repair it by yourself.
Do not install this unit near water, for example, near a bathtub,
washbowl, kitchen sink, or other sources of high humidity. Electrical
equipment may be a cause of serious injuries if you use it being wet
or standing in water.
If you dropped the base unit into water, do not touch it until after
you unplug the AC adapter from the AC outlet; then take it out by
the disconnected cords.
When mounting the phone on the wall, make sure that there is no
concealed wiring in the wall.

Special safety precautions
This unit uses chemical DC power sources. Please read and follow
these special safety precautions during their use:
Before using the batteries and rechargeable batteries carefully
read instructions on their use;
To charge the rechargeable batteries, use only the charger units
recommended by the manufacturer.
Do not allow children to use the units.
Do not use batteries with visible oxidation marks;
If the oxidation products get into your eyes or on to skin immediately
rinse with large amounts of water; in case of accidental swallowing
– drink large amounts of water and induce vomiting, then call the
doctor;
Do not use new and old batteries simultaneously;
Do not dispose of the batteries in a fire. They may explode;
Check with the local waste management codes for special disposal
instructions;
Do not open or mutilate the batteries;
The electrolyte may be toxic if swallowed.
Exercise care in handling batteries in order not to short the battery
with conductive materials such as rings, bracelets, keys, etc. The
battery and/or conductor may overheat and cause burns.

INSTALLING AND
CONNECTING
1. Insert the rechargeable battery [19] into the battery compartment
[20] on the handsets [1] and [33] (only Twin XA2020), then close
the battery compartment with the cover [21] (see Fig. C).
2. Connect one end of the phone line cord [27] to the phone line jack
[25] at the base unit [13] rear side, and the other end of the phone
line cord [27] to the phone line socket (see Fig. D).
3. Insert the AC adapter [26] cable plug into its jack [24] at the
base unit [13] rear side. Insert the AC adapter [26] plug into a
wall outlet of your 220V electric mains (see Fig. D). In case of
Twin XA2020 you should also insert the charger AC adapter

[31] cable plug into its jack [30] at the charger [29] rear side
and plug the AC adapter [31] into a wall outlet of your 220V
electric mains (see Fig. E).
4. Attach the belt clip [22] to the handset by aligning it with the slots
[23] on the handset (see Fig. C).
5. Place the handsets [1] and [33] (only Twin XA2020) on the base
unit [13] and the battery charger [29] (see Fig. B, E). Before initial
use you should fully charge the battery, so charge it for about 15
hours. When you place the handset [1] on the base unit [13] for
charging and (only for Twin XA2020) the handset [33] on the
charger [29], you should hear a short beep and in so doing the
indicator lights [15] and [32] will light.
Notes:
1. When you are not using the phone (for example, when you are not
at home), place the handset on the base unit so that the battery is
always charged.
2. To ensure the maximum operating distance and noise-free
operation, install the base unit in a high location away from electrical
appliances such as a refrigerator, personal computer, TV or another
phone.
3. You can dial a phone number in pulse or tone mode. To choose the
appropriate mode, just slide the P-T switch [28] to “Tone” position for
Tone dialing and to “Pulse” position for pulse dialing.
The handset of the ACTIVE XA2020/ Twin XA2020 phones will not
operate in cases of a power failure. Therefore, in case of a power failure
you can use the Speakerphone mode of your base unit for essential
communications such as medical emergencies.
If you are moving during a conversation and noise interferes with
the conversation, this may be caused by some interference, the source
of which is located between the handset and base unit, for example,
you may be too close to another phone or other electric equipment.
Move to another location as far from the interference source as possible
and press the CH button [10]. If you not do this, the call may be
disconnected.
MAKING CALLS
Using the handset
Making calls
1. Press the PHONE button [3], the indicator light [2] lights.
2. Dial a phone number.
Answering calls
When the phone rings, press the PHONE button [3].
Note:
For noise-free calls, it is necessary to extend the antennas [11]
and [18] on the handset and base unit.
Finishing calls
To finish a call, press the PHONE button [3], the indicator light [2]
will go out.
Redialing the last dialed number
1. Press the PHONE button [3], the indicator light [2] lights up.

2. Press the LNR/P button [6] and the last dialed number will be
automatically redialed. (You can redial a number consisting of no
more than 32 digits.)
Microphone mute
You can turn off the handset microphone during a call. The calling
party will not hear you.
1. Press the SEC button [4]. (When the microphone is turned off, the
indicator light [2] flashes and the handset buttons are locked.)
2. To cancel the microphone mute, press the SEC button [4] once
again.
Inserting a pause in the dialed number
When saving a phone number in the phone memory, press the
LNR/P button [6] where the pause is needed (if a long pause is
necessary, then press the LNR/P button [6] several times). For example,
if you are dialing through a PBX and should dial '9' to access the PBX
trunk, press the LNR/P button [6] after entering '9' and then enter the
number you want to store.
Storing a number in the phone memory
You can store in the phone memory, 16 phone numbers up to 20
digits each.
1. Press the MEM button [8], the indicator light [2] starts to flash.
2. Enter the number you want to store in the memory.
3. Press the MEM button [8] once again.
4. Enter a two-digit number (01 to 16) under which you want to store
the entered phone number.
5. After completing the above steps you will hear a beep and the
indicator light [2] will go out.
Dialing a number stored in the phone memory
1. Press the PHONE button [3], the indicator light [2] lights up.
2. Press the MEM button [8].
3. Enter the two-digit number (01 to 16) corresponding to the phone
number you want to dial
Note:
You can store in the phone number just a part of a phone number
(for example, the international telephone code) and combine memory
dialing with normal phone number dialing.
Deleting a number stored in the phone memory
1. Press the MEM button [8], the indicator light [2] starts to flash.
2. Press the MEM button [8] once again.
3. Enter the two-digit number (01 to 16) corresponding to the phone
number you want to delete.
4. After completing the above steps you will hear a beep and the
indicator light [2] will go out.
Changing the ringer tone
1. Press the VOLUME/RINGER button [7] (the ringer tone cannot
be changed during a call), the indicator light [2] lights up.
2. To select the desired ringer tone, press one of the buttons 1…8 .

To answer a call using the speakerphone, press the SPEAKER-
PHONE button [14], the indicator light [12] starts to flash.
Finishing calls
To finish a call, press the SPEAKERPHONE button [14], the indica-
tor light [12] will go out.

base unit will automatically disconnect from the call.

Transferring a call between two handsets (only

If you transfer a call to another handset and the paged handset
does not answer for 30 seconds, the call is automatically returned to
your handset. If you also do not answer the returned call during 30
seconds, the call is disconnected.

HELPFUL HINTS

Before using the phone always check: connection of the telephone
line cord to the phone line socket and the base unit; connection of the
AC adapter to the mains and the base unit; inserting of the rechargeable
battery into the handset.
