2. Introduction
This scale works on the principle of Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). This involves a quick calculation of body content using a harmless electric current that is not even noticeable.
When measurement of the electrical resistance (impedance) is considered alongside other data (age, height, gender, and activity level), body fat percentage and other variables in the body can be calculated. Muscle tissue and water conduct electricity well and therefore have a lower resistance. In contrast, bones and fat tissue have low conductivity as the fat cells and bones are barely able to conduct the current due to very high levels of resistance.
Please note that the values calculated by the body analysis scale only represent an approximation of the actual values for your body. Only a doctor can precisely establish body fat, body water, and muscle percentage using medical methods.
General tips
•I
f possible, always weigh yourself at the same time every day (ideally in the morning), after having used the restroom, on an empty stomach and with as little clothing as possible, in order to obtain comparable, consistent results.
•C
alculation of body fat may only be made when bare foot; the soles of the feet may be lightly dampened where appropriate. Results may be unsatisfactory if the soles of the feet are completely dry or feature high levels of callused skin as this results in insufficient conductivity.
•S
tand up straight and still while weighing.
•W
ait a few hours after significant physical exertion.
•W
ait about 15 minutes after awakening so that your body’s water content can normalize.
•R
emember that only long-term trends are important. Brief deviations in weight within a few days are normally caused by loss of fluids; however, body water plays an important role in terms of well-being.
Limitations
When calculating body fat and additional values, deviating and unexpected results may occur in the case of:
•C
hildren under 10 years of age
•P
erformance athletes and bodybuilders

4. Initial Use
Inserting the batteries
Remove the plastic battery isolator strip by pulling it from the Battery Compartment Cover. If the scale does not func tion, remove the batteries completely and reinsert them, ensuring proper polarity.
Changing the weight unit
The scale is set to weigh in pounds (lb) from the factory. Switch the scale on by briefly applying pressure to the top surface with your foot for 1-2 seconds. Wait until “lb” appears in the display. Press the Weight Selector Button on the rear of the scale until the desired weight unit appears in the LCD Display (“kg” for kilograms or “st” for stones).
Positioning the scale
Place the scale on a hard, flat surface with no carpet or rugs; a hard surface is crucial to accurate measurements.
5. Entering User Data
To calculate your body fat percentage and other values, you must save your personal user data. The scale can store ten separate users, which allows you and members of your family to save and access each of your personal settings.
1
. With the scale on a hard, flat surface, switch the scale on by briefly applying pressure to the surface with
your foot (approx. 1-2 sec onds). Wait until “0.0” and the selected measurement unit appears in the LCD Display.
2
. Press the SET Button. The first memory space flashes in the LCD Display.
3
. You can now make the following settings:

Very high: Intense physical exertion, training or hard physical work at least 1 hour every day
6. Taking Measurements
Measuring your weight and carrying out diagnostics 1
. Press the SET Button and select a user number by pressing the / Buttons until the desired user number
displays. The LCD Display will cycle through the user parameters and then display “0.0” and the selected gender for that user number; the scale is now ready for use.
2
. Step onto the scale with bare feet and ensure that you are standing still with equal weight distribution and
with each foot on one of the conductors.
NOTE:
•Do not let your feet, legs, calves or thighs touch each other. Otherwise, the measurement cannot be taken
correctly. The measurement result will be incorrect if the measurement is carried out with socks on.
The scale begins to take measurements right away. The following values appear in sequence: 1
. Weight
2
. Body fat in % (FAT)
3
. Body water in % (BW)
4
. Muscle percentage in % (MUS)
5
. Body mass index (BMI)
Weight Measurement Only
Step on the scale wearing shoes. Stand still with your weight distributed equally on both feet. The scale measures and displays the weight right away.
Auto Shut-Off
The scale will shut off by itself after a few moments of inactivity.

Body weight / Body mass index
The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number often used to evaluate body composition. The number is calculated from body weight and height, the formula is “BMI = body weight : height BMI is [kg/m2].

Normal weight
Overweight
Note that with very muscular physiques such as bodybuilders, the BMI result will indicate overweight since no account is taken for well above average muscle mass.
Body water
According to the World Health Organization (WHO 2001), the percentage of body water should normally lie within the following ranges: Women: 50 – 55 % Men: 60 – 65 % Children: 65 –75 %
Body fat contains relatively little water. Therefore people with a high body fat percentage have body water percentages below the recommended values. With endurance athletes, however, the recommended values could be exceeded due to low fat percentages and high muscle percentage. This scale is unsuitable for measuring body water in order to draw medical conclusions concerning age-related water retention, for example. If necessary ask your physician. Basically, a high body water percentage should be the aim.
Muscle percentage
As the percentage of muscle differs from individual to individual, there are no generally valid guidelines.
Results in Relation to Time
NOTE:
7
•O
nly long-term trends are important. Brief deviations in weight within a few days are normally caused by
loss of fluids.
Interpretation of these results is based on changes in total body weight, percentage of body fat, body water and muscle content, as well as the length of time over which these changes occur. Rapid changes within the scope of a few days are considered separately from medium-term changes (in the scope of weeks) and longterm changes (months). As a basic rule, short-term changes in weight are almost entirely changes in water con tent, whereas medium-term and long-term changes may relate to fat percentage and muscle percentage.
•If you experience short-term weight loss but your body fat percentage increases or stays the same, you have
only lost water, such as after a training session, visit to the sauna, or a diet aimed only at fast weight loss.
•O
n the other hand, if your weight increases in the medium term and your body fat percentage drops or
stays the same, you may have built up valuable muscle mass.
•I
f your weight and body fat percentage both fall at the same time, then your diet is working – you are los-
ing fat mass.
•I
deally, you should support your diet with physical activity, fitness or strength training. This enables you
to increase your muscle percentage in the medium term.
•B
ody fat, body water and muscle percentages must not be added (muscle tissue also contains components made of body water).
8. Care and Maintenance
Clean the scale periodically using a damp cloth and, if necessary, a small amount of mild detergent.
Replacing batteries
Your scale is equipped with a low battery indicator. If the battery is weak, “Lo” will appear in the LCD Display and the scale will automatically shut off. In this case, replace the battery with one new CR2032 button cell battery.
9. Troubleshooting Guide
If the scale encounters an error during measurement, “FAT Err” or “Err” will appear in the LCD Display. Possible causes and solutions are below.
Possible causes for error Remedy
The proportion of fat is outside the measurable range (less than 5% or greater than 80%).
Maximum weight capacity of 330 lbs (150 kg) exceeded
Body water percentage is outside of the measurable range (less than 43% or greater than 75%)
Not standing still Stand as still as possible Incorrect zero point of scale Wait until the scale switches itself off. Activate scale, wait for “0.0”
Repeat the measurement barefoot with the soles of the feet lightly dampened if necessary
Limit measured weights to a maximum of 330 lb (150 kg)
Repeat the measurement barefoot with the soles of the feet lightly dampened if necessary
to appear and repeat measurement
8
The electrical resistance between the electrodes and the soles of the feet is too high (e.g. with heavily callused skin).
Repeat weighing barefoot. Slightly moisten the soles of your feet if necessary. Remove the calluses from the soles of your feet if necessary.
