The following two examples show you how the hazard informations are constructed. The triangle is used when indicating a hazard for human beings. When there is a circle instead of the triangle, the hazard information is only for possible property damage.
A triangle indicates hazard for human beings. The shade of grey of the outline reflects the severity of the hazard - darker grey means rising hazard.
The icon within the square illustrates the hazard. The outline´s shade of grey reflects the severity of the hazard - darker grey means rising hazard. (Not every hazard information has a square representing the hazard, so we have shown it as draft here)

The hazard is: Damage of the coolant circulation.
Do not use coolant lubricants from manufacturing processes as coolant!
Coolant circulations must be kept in a filled state using coolant-water mixtures in order to avoid corrosion at the transition between liquid and air.
Make sure, that there are no air reservoirs within the coolant circulation.
Remainders of coolant can act corrosive, lead to a lowering of the pH-value and act corrosive within the acid pH-value sector.
When exchanging or switching over from one coolant to another observe that the coolant circulation must be thoroughly rinsed with water several times.
If coolant circulations that have been filled with a coolant-water mixture must be emptied and cannot be refilled within a few days, it is essential, that they are rinsed repeatedly with water and after that be emptied completely.

5.4.2.2 Connecting BUM64F to coolant circulation

Mounting the unit
The BUM64F unit has a pre-mounted heatsink at its back. The topmost and the lowest threaded hole (G1/8") in the heatsink are destined for the intake and outlet of a coolant circulation system. For the connection to the customer side of the coolant circulation use connectors with an outside thread G1/8". Onto these connectors the customers hoses for intake and outlet can be fitted.
The BUM64F is mounted in a switching cabinet. The heatsink connections are then situated on the back side of the unit.
Mounting the heatsink connections:
supply suitable connectors (material: brass, G1/8“ outside thread)
1
clean the threaded holes and connectors
2
apply silicone sealant, e.g. Loctite 5331 onto a least one (clean!) thread winding.
3
The silicone sealant prevents either corrosion between the different construction materials and improves also the security/tightness.
turn the connectors by hand into the threaded holes of the heatsink and tighten them

6.1 General hazard information

The BUM64S/A/F appliances are defined as working funds of protection class I in respect of HD366 S1 chapter 3.2, see also EN 50178/VDE 0160 sect. 5.2.9.
Working funds of class I are characterized by the fact, that the protection against dangerous body currents not only comes from the basic insulation. Furthermore they are equipped with additional safety precautions. This additional protection consists of the housing and other parts being supplied with a protective earth connection. So in case the basic insulation fails there is no risk of dangerous voltages. The insulation of the appli ances is carried out across the total component at least in the basic insulation class according to EN 50178/VDE 0160, sect. 5.2.9.1. This applies to the insulation between current circuits and the environment.
The control connections of the appliance are secure isolated from the mains network. They are laid out for use of PELV-/SELV-circuits.
When determining the air- and creepage distances the following criteria have been considered:
m
Soiling grade 2 acc. to EN 50178/VDE 0160, sect. 5.2.15.2, table 2, line 3: Normally only non-conducting pollutants are produced. When the units are out of service, brief conductivity can occur due to condensation.
m
Overvoltage category III according to IEC 664-1, table 1 for the air clearances of mains circuits to their environment according to EN 50178/VDE 0160, sect. 5.2.16.1.

General hazard information
m
Rated insulation voltage of the mains input circuits (TN- and TT- networks) is 849 V according to EN 50178/VDE 0160, section 3.64.
Series BUM64S/A/F units are conditional short-circuit-proof in the sense of EN 50178/ VDE 0160, sect. 6.3.4.
During operation, the principles on which the power converter and the motor work lead to leakage currents to earth occurring. These are to be conducted by use of the appropriate protective conductors which may lead to a premature release of a series fault current cir cuit breaker.
.
WARNING
The following
m
serious personal injury m death
may occur,
The hazard is: Electricity. When there is body contact or earth leakage a direct current component in the fault current can be generated. This may hinder or keep a fault current circuit breaker from working properly.
Connecting the single power unit to mains input only by use of a fault current circuit breaker is forbidden (EN 50178/VDE 0160, sections 5.2.11 and 5.3.2.1).
if you do not observe this warning information:
-
Protection against direct contact with the units is achieved by installing them in commercially available switching cabinets. Their degree of protection must meet at least the minimum requirements of EN 50178/VDE 0160, section 5.2.4 and EN 60204-1, chapter 12.4.
Plastic covers on the equipment provide additional protection against accidental contact when commissioning or in case of casual use of control elements located close to the equipment. For the power connection additional measures must be taken according to IEC 60536-2, chapter 5.1.1, German accident prevention directive “Electrical plants and working funds“ VBG4.
Essential for personal protection are the safety measures and security regulations according to DIN/VDE.
.
WARNING
The following
m
serious personal injury m death
may occur,
if you do not observe this warning information:
The hazard is: Electricity.
Missing protective conductor connections at the unit or at the motor can lead to personal damage.
Connect the protective conductors.
Discharging time of voltage conducting parts is > 1 min.
Before working at voltage conducting parts check with adequate test equipment that the parts do no longer conduct voltage. Touch parts only after you have assured that they are voltage free and after unit and motor have been secured against reactivation.

Fuses of the appliance

6.6 Fuses of the appliance

To protect the appliance or the cable connections to it when an earth leakage fault occurs, you should install appropriate fuses. Use the fuses listed in ZD.4 Fuses– on page 103

6.7 EMC requirements on cable routing (EMC information)

Modern semiconductor technologies are applied in these appliances which minimize the power loss in the unit by switching more quickly and, with this, to continually reduce the size of the power section. These semiconductors generate electromagnetic waves due to the high switching frequency. As a result, when running converters you must meet spe cific conditions to avoid electromagnetic influences caused by switching operations.
Disturbances can occur in all sections of the drive system and are caused by:
m
capacitive fault currents caused by high rates of voltage rise when semiconductors switch.
m
high currents and high rates of current rise in the motor cables. The disturbance energy bound in magnetic fields reaches frequencies of between a few Hertz and about 30
MHz. Due to the high rates of current rise, additional electromagnetic fields occur
with frequencies of up to approximately 600 MHz.
m
high clock rates and fast logic circuits (electromagnetic field/16 MHz up to 1 GHz).
m
system perturbation and harmonics. The reason for this are commutation processes and non-sinusoidal mains network loads especially with network controlled converters (100 Hz up to 20 kHz).
!

NOTE
In this Manual you find the most important information for an EMC-compatible installation. Further absolutely notes, which have to be complied with, to mount a CE-confom installation is to be found in the operation manual „filter for mains applications“.

6.7.1 German EMC law (EMVG)

This appliance complies with § 6 sect. 9 of EMVG dated 18.09.1998:
"Devices, systems and components in the sense of section 3, that are exclusively manufactured or stocked as vendor parts or spare parts for further processing by industrial companies or craftsmen or by other specialists in the field of electromagnetic compatibility do not need to comply with the protective requirements of § 4 sect. 1 no. 1 to 3 and 5."
EMC largely depends on how the individual components and units are assembled and interconnected within the switching cabinet. The information given on the next pages is intended to enable you to configure your plant according to the newest EMC knowledge. This way you can keep the respective legal regulations.

6.7.2 Measures to ensure EMC

To ensure EMC you should strictly keep to the following configuring information.

The maximum length of the motor cable is limited. The length depends on the crosssection of the cable ZCable from appliance to motor– from page 105

you should route all lines as close as possible to the conductors of the ground system to reduce the effective loop area for magnetic coupling

figure 18: Reducing loop area
h
when parallel-routing signal and control lines across power cables, the conductors must at least be 20 cm apart.
h
lines of different EMC categories should only cross at an angle of 90°.
h
for symmetrical signal transmission form twisted pair cables and twist those against all other twisted pairs (e.g. for differential amplifier inputs used for speed setpoint value).
h
the appliance-to-ground plate earth connection should be as short as possible (<
30 cm). Use large cross-sections (> 10 mm2).
h
the PE-connection on the load side of the filter to the mounting plate should be carried out low-impedant. Ideal is a galvanized metal angle piece or a high frequency earth band.
h
keep a distance of at least 20 cm between converter and its cabling and

disturbance sources as circuit breakers, transformers, line reactors and
m
disturbance sensitive modules like µPs, bus systems etc.
h
avoid reserve loops on overlong cables.
h
the grounding on reserve conductors in cables is mandatory (additional screening is achieved, you avoid capacitive coupled hazardous contact voltages coupled in).
h
do not arrange net filters in parallel.

6.7.2.2 Grounding
Installation
h
do not arrange net filters of the same type in series - the damping characteristics are not improved.
h
for each unit use a separate mains filter. If you must suppress all drives together - do not interrupt the screening between the converter and the motor. This means that screened cables must not be interrupted by fuses, circuit breakers and other.
To meet EMC requirements, the classical star grounding is no longer sufficient to reduce the disturbance of high frequencies caused by converter operation. Better results can be achieved by a reference surface which must be linked to the unit’s ground (e.g. bare metal mounting plate and housing parts).
h
to avoid earth loops, position all ground conductors and screens as close as possible to ground.
h
if it is possible to ground the controller reference potential of unit, form the connection with as large a cross-section as possible and short (< 30 cm) cable (if it is possible to ground the controller reference potential).
h
remove insulating layers such as paint, adhesives etc. from the ground connections.
h
if necessary, use serrated lock washers (DIN 6798) or similar measures to ensure a permanent, conductive contact.
6
h
to prevent corrosion on ground connections, use suitable metal combinations (in the sense of the electrochemical series of metals).
h
keep conductive electrolytes away from the connection by the use of protective coating (e.g. with grease).
h
connect screens at both ends over a large contact surface and with good conductivity. Only this way you can suppress the effects of magnetic or high frequency disturbance.
h
if earth loops occur (e.g. double insulation of the setpoint conductor screen), apply the receiver side galvanically and the sender side capacitively.
h
when routing external cable screens through panels separating different EMC areas, ensure contact of the panels to the cable screens.
figure 19: contacting cable screens when routing through cabinet panels
Cables which are passed through the panels of screening housings without special measures (e.g. filtering), may impair the screening effect of these housings.

h
form a good conductive connection of the cable screens where the cable enters the housing.
h
take care that the distance of the last screen contact point to the exit of the cabinet must be as short as possible.
figure 20: Screening of cables at switching cabinet exit
The screening is effective against magnetic fields if the screen is connected to ground on both ends.
With electrical fields, the screen is effective when it is connected to ground at only one end.
h
however, in case of (both electrical or magnetic) fields with high frequencies (depending on the length of the line), you must always connect the screen at both ends.
figure 21: Screen contact on both sides of a line
Connecting the screen to ground at both ends ensures that the conductor does not “leave the system housing“.
Grounding of conductor screens on both sides does not entirely rule out the influence of earth circuits (potential differences on the ground system). Those are very rare, if you car ry out the measures described in the previous sections entitled (

h
screened cables that are routed through different EMC areas must not be interrupted at terminals, since screen damping would otherwise be reduced considerably.
h
if possible, run the cables without interruption to the next module.
h
carry out the screen connection low-impedant and use a wide surface.

6.7.2.4 Filtering
Installation
Cable tails that are only 3 cm long (1 cm of wire = 10 nH) reduce the screening effect in the megahertz range by up to 30 dB!
motor cable cable to external ballast resistors cable between mains filter and converter
The functioning of the unit requires no filters to be fitted. To keep EN50081-2 respectively EN61000-6-4 under certain circumstances input or output side filters may be required.
If you have question on how to perform filtering you can order manual “Filter for network applications BFN“.
6
6.7.2.5 Filter mounting
h
arrange the filter close to the appliance.
h
use a screened mains input line between unit and filter if the cable length exceeds 30 cm (grounding on both sides).
h
input and output cables of the filter should be run separate of each other (distance > 30 cm).
h
the housing of the filter should be grounded using a wide surface.
6.7.2.6 Discharge currents
Due to the principle of operation, parasitic capacities in the power unit, motor cable and motor windings can add to discharge currents of 100 mA or higher.
This means that converters may be incompatible with earth leakage circuit-breakers!
h
in this context observe the safety information given in the EN 50178/VDE 0160 sect.

7.3 Checking the installation

WARNING
The following
m
serious personal injury m death
The hazard is: Electricity. Voltage conducting parts must be protected against direct touch.
This you can achieve by insulation, model, position, arrangement or firmly applied devices.
The power terminals of the power module hold potential!
Essential for personal security are the safety measures and safety regulations of the DIN/VDE standards. If protective conductor connections are missing at the appliance or at the motor you will have to face personal damage, because the surfaces may carry dangerous voltages.
The protective conductor connection is to be carried out according to DIN EN 60204/VDE 0113 part 1; section 8.2.2 regarding also EN 50178/VDE 0160, sections 5.3.2.1 and 8.3.4.4.
Under operation there always appear discharge currents in the power module and the motor. They are conducted by using the orderly protective conductor and can lead to premature re sponse of a series fault current circuit breaker.
In case of a body contact or a earth fault a direct current component can appear within the fault current, which can complicate or keep a supervising fault current circuit breaker from re sponding.
Even after the action of the supply units main contactor the parts of the power module are carrying dangerous voltages.

8.2 Monitoring functions and their messages

NOTE
The monitoring functions are active only when the +24V-supply voltage (X99A) is present.
The unit’s monitoring functions are divided into two groups. First group is the "infeed module monitoring functions" see power module monitoring functions". This partitioning reflects the appliance’s internal construction.

8.3 Ready-for-use (= BB)

The “ready-for-use“ message is the most important message. When a monitoring function generates a message, that erases the "ready-for-use" message, the drive will be stopped.
There is not only one single message “ready-for-use“. If, for example there is a V-controller in your BUM 64S/A/F, each drive will have four different "ready-for-use" messages.
m
"ready-for-use feed module" (in BUM 64S/A/F existent and visible) = "ready-for-use internal" (digital output X99A - 5) = "ready-for-use external" (relay contacts X99AB - 1,2)

functions– on page 69 and
The term "ready-for-use feed module" is also called "ready-for-use internal" (terminal designation BB int) respectively "ready-for-use external" (terminal designation BB ext).
The distinction has its reason only in the construction of the unit. At the infeed module output the "ready-for-use feed module" is also called "ready-for-use internal". After the message has been transmitted inside the unit to the power module, the "ready-for-use feed module" message is also referred to as "ready-for-use external".

8.4.1 Monitoring functions of feed module

Monitoring functions
m
Monitoring function phase failure
The voltage of all three phases of the mains input is monitored. If one of the phases has no voltage, the BUM 64S/A/F generates a WARNING. When the voltage returns within 10 seconds, the WARNING message is erased. If the voltage at the mains phase is miss ing for longer than 10 seconds, the message WARNING remains and the "ready-for-use feed unit" will be erased.
m
Monitoring function mains network failure
The voltage of all three phases of the mains input is monitored. If the mains voltage is missing at 2 or 3 phases, immediately the message “WARNING“ is generated. When the mains input voltage returns as long as the DC link voltage is above 300 charged again and the WARNING message is erased.
If the DC link voltage drops below 300 V after mains network failure or mains voltage dips, the „ready-for-use feed module“ is erased. When the mains input voltage returns the wir ing of the X99AB-5/6 input determines the further behavior:
m
if you apply shortly (> 1 ms) 24 V, the DC link is re-charged, the WARNING message will be erased, and the "ready-for-use" is set again.
m
if the input is permanently connected to 24 V, the DC link is automatically re-charged after the mains input voltage returns. The WARNING message will be erased, and the "ready-for-use" is set again. (Prerequisite is, that a mains network failure time > 0 seconds is set. See "mains network failure time" in the controller manual).

8.4.2 Monitoring functions of motor-side power module

m
Monitoring function overcurrent (motor)
Any of the three phase currents of the motor is monitored. If the phase current exceeds the admissible peak value current by 30 %, the pulse inhibitor is activated and the BUM 64S/A/F generates a message. This message is saved within the BUM 64S/A/F and transmitted to the controller. The "ready-for-use motor-side power module" message is erased.
NOTE
The overcurrent message and the subsequent blocking of the drive protects it from being damaged or destroyed. To avoid the “overcurrent (motor)“ message, you must limit the per missible peak current of the motor phase currents by the control process.
m
Monitoring function earth current (short-circuit)
The earth leakage current of the motor phases is monitored. When the fault current exceeds 20 % of the peak value of the power section’s admissible peak current, a message is generated. The reason for that error is most likely an earth leakage fault at the motor terminals. This message is transmitted to the controller. The "ready-for-use motor-side power module" is erased.
m
Monitoring function DC link overvoltage
Operation
8
-
The peak value of the DC link voltage is monitored. When the DC link voltage reaches 830 V, a message is generated. This message is passed on to the controller. The message "ready-for-use motor-side power module" is erased.
NOTE
The DC link voltage can rise until cut-off, when the drive is in breaking operation and there is no or a too high-resistance ballast resistor at the DC link.
m
Monitoring function heatsink overtemperature
The peak value of the DC link voltage is monitored. A linear temperature sensor is mounted onto the heatsink. Its measured value is transmitted to the controller. The controller that way is taking over the temperature monitoring (see controller manual). This must be adjusted according to the technical specifications given in the controller manual. The "ready-for-use motor-side power module" is erased.
CAUTION

The hazard is: unit temperature too high. The maximum admissible temperature of the heatsink is 90 °C - higher temperatures can destroy the appliance.

With the safety relay you can switch off the supply voltage of the transistor drivers. After cut-off the motor is torque-free, but is not galvanic isolated from the power module. Because the motor is not galvanic iso lated from the module, the motor is not voltage-free! A typical application for the safety relay is:
very fast resumption of operation after cut-off.
f
This is possible, because the DC link is not switched off.
Check back signal of safety relay (safety relay is available as an option) Contact no +24V-supply for safety relay. The power output respectively the converter is blocked.
Contact +24V-supply for the safety relay present. The power output respectively the converter can be driven by the controller.
If the +24V-supply for the safety relay is cut off while the drive is under operation, the drive is immediately switched torque-free (the appliance will generate no more energy). To re-start the drive, keep to the following procedure: switch on +24V-supply for safety relay. erase existing messages by a reset of the controller.

Control is the basis of maintenance. If you carry out the inspection carefully, arising problems can be avoided.

9.1 Inspection interval

When the surrounding air is polluted, the required coolant air quantity cannot be achieved, because the dirt will clog up the ventilation grids.
Even before clusters of dirt inside the appliance can block the required heat dissipation. Layers of dirt on the ventilation grids are a warning signal which you should keep an eye on.

Setting out of operation

11.3 Setting out of operation

The setting out of operation has the following steps:
switch to powerless state and secure against unauthorized reactivation.
1
(approx. 10 min after switching off) test that the connections are voltage free.
2
demount the connections and secure them according to the safety regulations.
3
(if required: demount coolant circulation connections and seal them).
4
make a set-out-of-operation document.
5

11.4 Demounting

Prerequisite for demounting is a completely documented set-out-of-operation procedure. For the demounting, observe the same regulations and safety information as for „mount-
ing“. Observe in particular that a BUM64A/S/F weighs between 36 kg and 49 kg. Supply suitable transport devices (hoisting gear, cranes, transportation personnel etc.)
for transport after demounting. Disengage all mechanical connections to the switching cabinet only after the appliance
has been secured against falling off/falling down. Keep ready suitable packing material if you intend to store the appliances. If in doubt con-
tact Baumüller Nürnberg Electronic GmbH & Co. During transport observe, that the appliance is not damaged by false supports or severe shocks, see also
Transport– from page 23.

11.5 Storage conditions

The duration of the storage is unlimited if you keep the storage conditions given below:
m
1 K 4 (climatic class)
m
- 30 °C to + 70 °C (temperature range)

11.6 Maintenance during the storage

During storage there is no maintenance necessary.

11.7 Re-commissioning

change the seal.
1
carry out commissioning like for a new appliance.

In this section we provide general information about EC directives, the CE symbol and the Declaration of Conformity/by Manufacturer.

C.1 What is an EC directive?

EC directives specify requirements. The directives are written by the relevant bodies within the EU (which used to be called the EC, and the EEC before that, hence the now illogical term EC directive), and are implemented by all the member countries of the EU in national law. In this way the EC directives guarantee free trade within the EU.
An EC directive only contains essential minimum requirements. You will find detailed requirements in standards, to which references are made in the directive.

C.7 UL-certification

UL is a mark of conformity, which is assigned from Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (www.ul.com), an American company. The UL-certification is not statutory regulated, but takes place voluntarily. In order to be allowed to mark equipments and components with the UL-mark of confomity, tests must have to be done, which are attended and documentated by an UL-inspector. Only if all necessary tests have been passed and regular product monitoring at the production process of the equipment or the components has been passed without objections, the UL-mark of conformity may be attached to the equipment under test. Line filters of the company Baumüller Nürnberg Electronic GmbH & Co. KG are checked in accordance of the UL-standard UL 508C (UL-Standard for Safety for Power Conversion Equipment) and are record ed under the category control number NMMS. The product- and test description is recorded under file-no. E179860.
Only if all necessary tests have been completely carried out the c-mark may be attached to the equipments or components. If single tests have not already taken place at the manufacturer´s, but are carried out not until at the user´s, then only the With products of the Baumüller Nürnberg Electronic GmbH & Co. KG all tests are already completed at the UL-certification process, so that they may be marked with the
In case with the UL-certification process also standards of the CSA(Canadian Standard Association) are considered, then instead of the c uct. With products of the company Baumüller Nürnberg Electronic GmbH & Co. KG. the CSA-standard Norm C 22.2 was considered, that´s why they are marked with the
If products of Baumüller Nürnberg Electronic GmbH & Co. KG. are mounted into an UL-certified installation, then certain application-, mounting- and installation notices must be considered, which are upon the functioning of the device. We have marked these notes in the manual with „UL 508C ...“. Only if you follow these notes and apply to them you may go by it, that the installation has been mounted UL-con form.

At voltage interrupts (0.7UB > U > 0.1UB for t > 0.1 sec.) (U=mains input voltage) the error “Phase failure“ or “Network failure“ is generated (see also
2)
The rated voltage is 400 V. If mains input voltages below 400 V are used the power output of the appliance decreases (see curves).

6)
The supply voltage must meet PELV (EN 50178, chapter 3.49) or SELV (EN 50178, chapter. 3.70) requirements. At supply voltages < 24 V the ventilation power output is reduced. Therefore it may be also necessary to reduce the output currents as well.
