SettheRootPassword
TogainaccesstotheAxisproduct,youmustsetthepasswordforthedefaultadministratoruserroot.ThisisdoneintheCongure RootPassworddialog,whichappearswhentheproductisaccessedforthersttime.
Topreventnetworkeavesdropping,therootpasswordcanbesetviaanencryptedHTTPSconnection,whichrequiresanHTTPS certicate.HTTPS(HypertextTransferProtocoloverSSL)isaprotocolusedtoencrypttrafcbetweenwebbrowsersandservers.The HTTPScerticateensuresencryptedexchangeofinformation.SeeHTTPS,onpage47.
Thedefaultadministratorusernamerootispermanentandcannotbedeleted.Ifthepasswordforrootislost,theproductmustbe resettothefactorydefaultsettings.SeeResettoFactoryDefaultSettings,onpage52.
TosetthepasswordviaastandardHTTPconnection,enteritdirectlyintherstdialog.

SetPowerLineFrequency
PowerlinefrequencyissetthersttimetheAxisproductisaccessedandcanonlybechangedfromPlainCong(seepage52) orbyresettingtheproducttofactorydefault.
Selectthepowerlinefrequency(50Hzor60Hz)usedatthelocationoftheAxisproduct.Selectingthewrongfrequencymaycause imageickeriftheproductisusedinuorescentlightenvironments.

Whenusing50Hz,themaximumframerateislimitedto25fps.

Usetheslidertocontrolthevolumeofthespeakersandthemicrophone.
Half-duplexmode
TheTalk/Listenbuttonisusedtoswitchbetweensendingandreceivingaudio.Thebuttoncanbecongured fromtheAudiotabintheAMCControlpanel:
Simplex–speakeronlymode
Tosendaudio,theTalkandMicrophonebuttonsmustbothbeactive.Clickeitherbuttontostopaudio transmission.
•Push-To-Talkmode:Clickandholdthebuttontotalk/send.Releasethebuttontolisten.
•Togglemode:Clickoncetoswitchbetweentalkingandlistening.
PTZControls
TheLiveViewpagealsodisplaysPan/Tilt/Zoom(PTZ)controls.Theadministratorcanenable/disablecontrolsforspeciedusersunder SystemOptions>Security>Users.

ClicktheEmulatejoystickmodebuttonandclickintheimagetomovethecameraviewinthedirectionofthe mousepointer.
ClicktheCentermodebuttonandclickintheimagetocenterthecameraviewonthatposition.Thecentermode buttoncouldalsobeusedtozoominonaspecicarea.Clickintheimageanddragtodrawarectanglesurrounding theareatobemagnied.Tozoomout,rotatethemousewheel.

TheAxisproductprovidesseveralaudioandvideostreamformats.Yourrequirementsandthepropertiesofyournetworkwill determinethetypeyouuse.
TheLiveViewpageintheproductprovidesaccesstoH.264andMotionJPEGvideostreams,audiostreamsandtothelistofavailable streamproles.Otherapplicationsandclientscanaccessvideoandaudiostreamsdirectly,withoutgoingviatheLiveViewpage.
HowtoStreamH.264
ThevideocompressionstandardH.264makesgooduseofbandwidth,andcanprovidehighqualityvideostreamsatlessthan1Mbit/s.
Decidingwhichcombinationofprotocolsandmethodstousedependsonyourviewingrequirements,andonthepropertiesof yournetwork.TheavailableoptionsinAXISMediaControlare:

AXISMediaControlnegotiateswiththeAxisproducttodeterminethetransportprotocoltouse.Theorderofpriority,listedinthe AMCControlPanel,canbechangedandtheoptionsdisabled,tosuitspecicrequirements.

H.264islicensedtechnology.TheAxisproductincludesoneH.264viewingclientlicense.Installingadditionalunlicensed copiesoftheclientisprohibited.Topurchaseadditionallicenses,contactyourAxisreseller.
Thisunicastmethod(RTPoverUDP)isused forliveunicastvideo,especiallywhenitis importanttoalwayshaveanup-to-datevideo stream,evenifsomeimagesaredropped.
Thisunicastmethod(RTPtunneledoverRTSP) isusefulasitisrelativelysimpletocongure rewallstoallowRTSPtrafc.
Thisunicastmethodcanbeusedtotraverse rewalls.Firewallsarecommonlyconguredto allowtheHTTPprotocol,thusallowingRTPto betunneled.
Thismethod(RTPoverUDP)shouldbeusedforlivemulticastvideo.Thevideostreamisalways up-to-date,evenifsomeimagesaredropped. Multicastingprovidesthemostefcientusageofbandwidthwhentherearelargenumbersof clientsviewingsimultaneously.Amulticastcannothowever,passanetworkrouterunlessthe routerisconguredtoallowthis.ItisnotpossibletomulticastovertheInternet,forexample. Notealsothatallmulticastviewerscountasoneunicastviewerinthemaximumtotalof20 simultaneousconnections.
Unicastingisusedforvideo-on-demand transmissionsothatthereisnovideotrafc onthenetworkuntilaclientconnectsand requeststhestream. Notethatthereareamaximumof20 simultaneousunicastconnections.
MJPEG
ThisformatusesstandardJPEGstillimagesforthevideostream.Theseimagesarethendisplayedandupdatedataratesufcient tocreateastreamthatshowsconstantlyupdatedmotion.
TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidth,butprovidesexcellentimagequalityandaccesstoeveryimage containedinthestream.TherecommendedmethodofaccessingMotionJPEGlivevideofromtheAxisproductistousetheAXIS MediaControlinInternetExplorerinWindows.

H.264,alsoknownasMPEG-4Part10/AVC,isavideocompressionstandardthatprovideshighqualityvideostreamsatlowbitrates. AnH.264videostreamconsistsofdifferenttypesofframessuchasI-framesandP-frames.AnI-frameisacompleteimagewhereas P-framesonlycontainthedifferencesfrompreviousframes.
TheGOVlengthisthenumberofframesbetweentwoconsecutiveI-frames.IncreasingtheGOVlengthmaysaveconsiderablyon bandwidthrequirementsinsomecases,butmayalsohaveanadverseaffectonimagequality.
TheAxisproductsupportstwoH.264proles.TheMainproleprovideshighercompressionthantheBaselineprolewiththesame videoquality,butrequiresmoreprocessingpowertodecode.
ThebitratecanbesetasVariableBitRate(VBR)orConstantBitRate(CBR).VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtotheimage complexity,usingupmorebandwidthforincreasedactivityintheimage,andlessforlowerimageactivity.CBRallowsyoutoseta xedTargetbitratethatconsumesapredictableamountofbandwidth.Asthebitratewouldusuallyneedtoincreaseforincreased imageactivity,butinthiscasecannot,framerateandimagequalityareaffectednegatively.Topartlycompensateforthis,itis possibletoprioritizeeitherframerateorimagequality.Notsettingaprioritymeansthatframerateandimagequalityareequally affected.Youmustsaveyoursettingsbeforetheycantakeeffect.
Thecurrentbitratecanbesettoappearastextoverlay.Todothis,selecttheIncludetextcheckboxoptionunderOverlay Settingsandenterthemodier#bintheeld.

Sometimestheimagesizeislargeduetolowlightorcomplexscenery.Adjustingthemaximumframesizehelpstocontrolthe bandwidthandstorageusedbytheMotionJPEGvideostreaminthesesituations.SettingtheframesizetotheDefaultsetting providesconsistentlygoodimagequalityattheexpenseofincreasedbandwidthandstorageusageinlowlight.Limitingtheframe sizeoptimizesbandwidthandstorageusage,butmaygivepoorimagequality.Topreventincreasedbandwidthandstorageusage, themaximumframesizeshouldbesettoanoptimalvalue.
