ToaccesstheAxisproduct,youmustsetthepasswordforthedefaultadministratoruserroot.ThisisdoneintheCongureRoot Passworddialog,whichopenswhentheproductisaccessedforthersttime.
Topreventnetworkeavesdropping,therootpasswordcanbesetviaanencryptedHTTPSconnection,whichrequiresanHTTPS certicate.HTTPS(HypertextTransferProtocoloverSSL)isaprotocolusedtoencrypttrafcbetweenwebbrowsersandservers.The HTTPScerticateensuresencryptedexchangeofinformation.SeeHTTPSonpage45.
Thedefaultadministratorusernamerootispermanentandcannotbedeleted.Ifthepasswordforrootislost,theproductmustbe resettothefactorydefaultsettings.SeeResettoFactoryDefaultSettingsonpage56.
TosetthepasswordviaastandardHTTPconnection,enteritdirectlyinthedialog.
TosetthepasswordviaanencryptedHTTPSconnection,followthesesteps:
1.ClickUseHTTPS.
Atemporarycerticate(validforoneyear)iscreated,enablingencryptionofalltrafctoandfromtheproduct,andthe passwordcannowbesetsecurely.
2.Enterapasswordandthenre-enterittoconrmthespelling.
3.ClickOK.Thepasswordhasnowbeencongured.

Thissettingisdenedthersttimetheproductisaccessed.DependingonhowtheAxisproductisinstalled,selectceilingorwall.
Tochangethesesettings,theproductmustberestoredtotheoriginalfactorydefaultsettings.Toresetorrestoretheproduct,goto

H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedwiththeMotion JPEGformatandasmuchas50%morethantheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatmuchlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,muchhighervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.

ThisformatusesstandardJPEGstillimagesforthevideostream.Theseimagesarethendisplayedandupdatedataratesufcient tocreateastreamthatshowsconstantlyupdatedmotion.

ThebitratecanbesetasVariablebitrate(VBR)orMaximumbitrate(MBR).VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtotheimage complexity,usingupmorebandwidthforincreasedactivityintheimage,andlessforlowerimageactivity.Whentheactivityin thesceneincreases,thebitratewouldusuallyincreaseaswell.Ifthereisasurplusinbandwidth,thismaynotbeanissueand selectingVariablebitrate(VBR)willbesufcient.Butifbandwidthislimited,itisrecommendedtocontrolthebitratebyselecting Maximumbitrate(MBR).Whentheactivityinthesceneincreases,VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtothecomplexity,usingup morebandwidthforincreasedactivityinthescene,andlessforlowersceneactivity.MBRallowsyoutosetatargetbitratethat limitsthebandwidthconsumption.

Zipstreamisabitrate-reductiontechnologyoptimizedforvideosurveillance.ZipstreamreducestheaveragebitrateintheH.264 streambyremovingunnecessarydataandmakesitpossibletoallowhigherresolutions,reducestoragecostortokeeprecordingsfor alongertime.Toreducethebitrate,Zipstreamreducesthenumberofbitsintheareasoftheimagethatarelessinterestingfroma videosurveillanceperspective,forexamplethebackground.Imagedetailsthatareimportantforforensicvideoanalysis,forexample facesandlicenseplates,arepreservedwithenoughnumberofbits.
