Topreventnetworkeavesdropping,therootpasswordcanbesetviaanencryptedHTTPSconnection,whichrequiresanHTTPS certicate.HTTPS(HypertextTransferProtocoloverSSL)isaprotocolusedtoencrypttrafcbetweenwebbrowsersandservers.The HTTPScerticateensuresencryptedexchangeofinformation.SeeHTTPSonpage46.

Whenusing50Hz,themaximumframerateislimitedto25fps.

H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedwiththeMotion JPEGformatandasmuchas50%morethantheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatmuchlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,muchhighervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.

ThisformatusesstandardJPEGstillimagesforthevideostream.Theseimagesarethendisplayedandupdatedataratesufcient tocreateastreamthatshowsconstantlyupdatedmotion.
TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidth,butprovidesexcellentimagequalityandaccesstoeveryimage containedinthestream.TherecommendedmethodofaccessingMotionJPEGlivevideofromtheAxisproductistousetheAXIS MediaControlinInternetExplorerinWindows.

TheH.264streamsettingscanbeconguredfromtheVideo>VideoStreampage.SelecttheH.264tab.Thesettingsdenedinthis pagewillapplytoallH.264streamsthatdonotuseastreamprole.
TheGOPlengthisthenumberofframesbetweentwoconsecutiveI-frames.IncreasingtheGOPlengthmaysaveconsiderablyon bandwidthrequirementsinsomecases,butmayalsohaveanadverseaffectonimagequality.
TheAxisproductsupportsthefollowingH.264prole(s):
•Baseline.TheBaselineproleisrecommendedforclientsthatdon’tsupportCABACentropycoding.

ThebitratecanbesetasVariablebitrate(VBR)orConstantbitrate(CBR).VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtotheimage complexity,usingupmorebandwidthforincreasedactivityintheimage,andlessforlowerimageactivity.Whentheactivityin thesceneincreases,thebitratewouldusuallyincreaseaswell.Ifthereisasurplusinbandwidth,thismaynotbeanissueand selectingVariablebitrate(VBR)willbesufcient.Butifbandwidthislimited,itisrecommendedtocontrolthebitratebyselecting Constantbitrate(CBR).Whentheactivityinthesceneincreases,VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtothecomplexity,usingup morebandwidthforincreasedactivityinthescene,andlessforlowersceneactivity.CBRallowsyoutosetatargetbitratethat limitsthebandwidthconsumption.

Shutter&Gain
Theshutterandgainsettingsaffecttheamountofmotionblurandnoiseintheimage.Toadapttodifferentlighting,available storagespaceandbandwidth,itisoftennecessarytoprioritizeeitherlowmotionblurorlownoise.TheAxisproductallows usingdifferentprioritizationinnormallightandinlowlight.
Shutterspeedisrelatedtotheamountoftimetheshutterisopenedandismeasuredinseconds(s).Aslowshutterspeedallows morelighttoreachthesensorandcanhelpproduceabrighterimageinlowlightsituations.Ontheotherhand,aslowshutter speedcancausemovingobjectstoappearblurry.

•Autotosettheshutterspeedautomatically.Ifrequired,useMaxshuttertolimittheshutterspeedtopreventtheframe ratefrombeingreduced.

TheIRcutlterpreventsinfrared(IR)lightfromreachingtheimagesensor.Inpoorlightingconditions,forexampleatnight,orwhen usinganexternalIRlamp,settheIRcutltertoOff.Thisincreaseslightsensitivityandallowstheproductto“see”infraredlight.The imageisshowninblackandwhitewhentheIRcutlterisoff.
IfusingautomaticExposurecontrol,settheIRcutltertoAutotoautomaticallyswitchbetweenOnandOffaccordingtothe lightingconditions.
ThecameralensisIRcorrected,whichmeansthatitmaintainsfocusinmixedlight.Asmallfocusadjustmentisrecommended whenIRilluminationisused.SelectEnablefocusadjustmentforIRilluminationtoautomaticallyadjustthefocuswhentheIRcut lterswitchesbetweenonandoff.
