Control Module HVAC: Service and RepairA/C Control Head -E87-, Removing and Installing
A/C control head -E87-, removing and installing NOTE:
- Always check DTC memory before removing -E87-.
- Changes to model year 2000 > vehicles
After replacing -E87-, always:
- Check coding or enter new coding.
- Perform basic setting.
- Re-check DTC memory.
- If a newly installed A/C control head -E87- flashes after ignition is switched on, code -E87-, for more description refer to appropriate system.
-

The display of A/C control head -E87- (and exterior temperature display in instrument cluster) for version up to index "K" can be changed from to and vise versa by pressing the "Temperature left" (driver-side) with "circulating air button" pressed. The unit of display ( or ) for A/Ccontrol head -E87- as of index "M" is determined via the adaptation of the control module in instrument cluster (and transmitted to -E87- via thedatabus-system).
NOTE:
-
30 minutes
-E87- can be operated for a certain time (up to about ) after switching off the ignition by pressing the "Rest" button (residual heating).Operating time depends on charge condition of battery maximum about .10 minutes
- For vehicles with Nippondenso compressor only A/C control heads beginning with Index "C" are to be or will be installed.
If -E87- remains in operation after switching off the ignition, test cable connection to connector E terminal 7 for short circuit to positive(connection for auxiliary heating mode not foreseen for USA/Canada) using wiring diagram.
- Remove center part of instrument panel
- Press tabs to unlock and disconnect connectors (arrow).

Changes to model year 2000 > vehicles:
- When replacing A/C control head note allocation See Page 01-7.
Illumination of display field and operating buttons occurs via A/C control head with pad number beginning with index letter "M" through lightemitting diodes (LEDs not replaceable).
- During malfunction test of temperature sensor -G56- intake screen of trim should not be closed.
For A/C control head with part numbers beginning with Index "M"
- Remove instrument cluster air outlet, center.
- Remove trim -A- for center instrument cluster.
- Remove radio or radio navigation system.

Adaptation
Individual functions are called up by entering the appropriate adaptation channel numbers (listed in the adaptation table).
NOTE:
Using measuring value blocks 10,11, 12 and 15, the values that need to be transferred to the new instrument cluster can be read out beforereplacement.
Adaptation channels 42-44 (see measuring value blocks 13 and 14) do not need to be transferred when replacing instrument cluster, because theyare adjusted by the factory for each new instrument cluster
