Great movie and music experiences build on a foundation of powerful, accurate bass. Achieving this kind of bass performance at home typically requires large, bulky, and obtrusive enclosures. In addition, the acoustic interaction between rooms and subwoofers degrades bass performance at the listening position.

Since there’s a signiﬁ cant variation in the amount and quality of bass from one recording or movie to another, having the ability to change the subwoofer’s settings after installation would offer real acoustic beneﬁ ts.

Atlantic Technology has spent over two years researching practical solutions to these problems. Now, with our inwall subwoofer systems, you can get powerful, accurate, and authoritative deep bass from practically invisible THX Ultra® certiﬁ ed subwoofers that ﬁ t in standard 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 studded walls.

These are among the most ﬂ exible subwoofers ever built, as they provide both sophisticated room optimization via a builtin parametric equalizer and source enhancement with remote controlled preset EQs for everything you listen to!

Technical Information

These systems consist of dual ultra-heavy duty 8-inch woofers mounted in pre-installed sealed in-wall enclosures. The woofers are driven by a dedicated servo-controlled power ampliﬁ er capable of output in excess of 550 watts per channel, IHF Dynamic Peak (350 watts per channel RMS). The drivers feature an extremely stiff Coated Composite Molded Graphite cone with a unique inverted stiffening

dust cap. The driver’s 1.5-inch Kapton™ voice coil rests in a massive and powerful 8-pound vented magnet assembly. Two of these proprietary drivers equals the cone area of a single 12-inch woofer, yet with a combined motor structure larger than most 15 and 18-inch drive units. Since our 8-inch drivers use very stiff, light cones with enormous motor assemblies, their input response is extremely quick and accurate. The result is very fast bass response and exceptionally natural music reproduction.

IWTS-8 In-Wall Subwoofer

The woofer module is shown in its dedicated InWall enclosure. Once it’s installed within the wall (new construction only) all you see is a gently curved perforated metal grille that projects into the room approximately 1-1/2 inches. The grille and the trim ring around the woofer module are supplied in a matte white primer ﬁ nish that can be used as is or painted to match the surrounding wall surface.

Room Tuning

Typical subwoofer response problems caused by room interactions are addressed by a four position Phase control (0°, 90°, 180°, 270°) and a single-band Parametric Equalizer for each channel, for set-andforget room optimization. A unique test CD (developed in conjunction with professional test equipment manufacturer Sencore™) is included to allow precise setup. Once the controls are set for optimum in-room performance they never need to be adjusted again, unless the prime seating location is changed.

Program Equalization

Music and movie soundtracks vary dramatically in their bass content because of engineering inconsistencies at different recording studios and mastering labs. No matter how precisely you set your system and subwoofer levels, in the real world there’s almost always too little or too much bass. But with these subwoofer systems you can not only correct for these recorded variations, you can do it conveniently by remote control. The SA-350 and SA-700 ampliﬁ ers both include four preset Program EQ

settings (independent of the set-and-forget parametric EQ) carefully designed to enhance movies, music, and late night, low level listening and a ± 10dB Volume Trim to “touch up” the overall bass levels. Now when you change from DVD to TV to CD you can adjust the bass without ever leaving your seat.

Atlantic InWall servo subwoofer systems are available in two conﬁ gurations:

A single in-wall subwoofer module and enclosure powered by the SA-350 mono servo-ampliﬁ er or, for larger spaces and higher output, and a THX Ultra certiﬁ ed system using dual subwoofer modules and two enclosures with the two channel SA-700 servo-ampliﬁ er.
