GC800 SERIES CONVENTIONAL GAS UNIT - OPERATING MANUAL Revision 1.5: June 1998
1. FEATURES
The GC800 gas control unit is designed to provide the automatic sequence required to discharge fire extinguishing gas such as Halon and CO2. The unit is operated by two fire inputs. These are normally wired to two independent zone output relays of a conventional fire panel. The fire panel monitors the protected area for fire.
Local control is provided by means of a Manual Break Glass Unit as well as key switches for manual/auto and isolate.
Monitored (polarity reversal) outputs are provided for bells, evacuation sign, siren and discharge. Outputs are also provided for the connection to the GR800/900 and GS800/900 remote units.
A door interlock feature warns the user of the automatic/manual status of the unit. The GC800 features extensive fault monitoring; and a lamp test push button is provided.

3. OPERATION
3.1 OPERATION OF THE GC800 GCU
3.1.1 Manual Gas Release - Manual Call Point Operated
The operation of the manual call point is identical for both the auto and manual keyswitch positions.
The bell relay is switched on
The evacuation sign relay is switched on
The siren relay is activated
The gas discharge delay (if set) is initiated
The discharge relay will be set after the elapse of the discharge delay
3.1.2 Controlled by the Fire Detection System
3.1.2.1 KEYSWITCH AUTO:
The first fire is flagged by either 24V DC on fire 1 OR fire 2 inputs.
The bell relay is activated
The evacuation sign operates according to the jumper setting - either off or intermittent
The second fire (double knock) occurs when both fir 1 AND fire 2 inputs are active.
The evacuation sign is switched ON
The siren relay is activated
The gas discharge delay (if set) is initiated
The discharge relay will be set once the discharge delay has elapsed
3.1.2.2 KEYSWITCH MANUAL:
If the keyswitch is set to manual then the entire above procedure is performed except that the gas discharge will not occur . Turning the keyswitch to auto will cause a gas discharge if the delay sequence has timed out.
NOTE: Resetting of the fire panel will NOT reset the GC800 GCU. The gas control unit must be locally reset using the 'isolate' keyswitch. (See 3.3 below).
GC800 SERIES CONVENTIONAL GAS UNIT - OPERATING MANUAL Revision 1.5: June 1998
3.2 ISOLATED MODE
The gas discharge relay can be isolated with the 'isolate/reset' keyswitch. This causes a physical isolation of the gas discharge relay. In the isolated position the 'isolated' LED's will be on and the keyswitch can be removed. 'Isolate' will cause a fault condition.
3.3 RESET
Any change of position of the 'isolate/reset' key will reset the GCU. If any fire or any fault condition is present the GCU will immediately indicate these conditions after reset.
3.4 DOOR INTERLOCK MODE
If the Door Interlock mode is enabled the GCU warns a user by sounding a buzzer when :
the door is locked and the GCU is in the manual mode.
the door is unlocked and the GCU is in automatic mode.
The buzzer will sound until either the position of the lock or the operating mode of the GCU is changed.
3.5 FAULTS
3.5.1 Fault Conditions
24V supply out of limit.
Termination of bell relay out of limit.
Termination of siren relay out of limit.
Termination of evacuate sign relay out of limit.
Termination of gas discharged relay out of limit.
Termination of remote manual break glass unit of limit.
GCU switched to isolated mode.
GC800 SERIES CONVENTIONAL GAS UNIT - OPERATING MANUAL Revision 1.5: June 1998
3.5.2 Actions on Fault
The two amber 'fault' LED's go on.
For the isolated condition the fault is indicated by the two 'isolated' LED's. All other faults are indicated inside the unit by the fault indicators.
If the supply is out of limit none of the internal fault LED's will be on.
3.6 LAMP TEST / SILENCE BUZZER
If the Lamp Test button is depressed all LED's, all remote LED's, the buzzer and the remote buzzer will switch on until the button is released. The correct status will be displayed afterwards. The buzzer and remote buzzer will be silenced unless the Door Interlock mode feature forces the buzzer on.
