OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Before starting trimmer remove blade guard (some models may not have a
blade guard). Plug cord into electrical outlet, operate at 120 volt, 60 cycle
AC electrical current or as noted on the unit. To start trimmer, move ON/
OFF switch button to ON position, to stop, move switch button back to
original position. After using your Andis trimmer, rewrap cord and store in a
safe place.
UNIVERSAL AC/DC POWER ADAPTER
The unit is equipped with a universal AC/DC power adapter.
CHARGING TRIMMER
This battery charger is intended for use with Andis model BTF3 lithium-ion
battery with a rated capacity of 3.7V
AC adapter from the carton. Plug the adapter into a 120V AC outlet, or
according to your local power standards. Confirm the voltage available at
2.8 Wh. Remove the trimmer and

each overseas location before using the appliance. For connection to a
240-V supply, use an attachment plug adapter of the proper configuration
for the power supply receptacle. Note that the trimmer ON/OFF switch
must be in the OFF position for the battery to charge. Plug the adapter
cord directly into the bottom of the trimmer (Figure A). The green light on
the trimmer will turn on.
The trimmer has not been charged at the factory. Please charge the trimmer
for 2 hours before the first use for maximum performance. You can keep
the trimmer plugged into the adapter when not in use. The adapter will
maintain the battery at full charge and the green light will stay on. However,
we recommend that the adapter be unplugged if the trimmer won’t be used
for seven or more days.
FAILURE TO CHARGE
1. Make sure voltage is present at the wall outlet (confirm with an appliance
you know is working).
2. Check to make sure adapter cord is plugged firmly into trimmer. Twist the
adapter connector slightly to insure good electrical connection. If failure
to charge still exists, return trimmer to Andis or an Andis Authorized
Service Station for examination and repair or replacement.

USE WITH ADAPTER CORD
If the trimmer powers OFF in the middle of a trimming job, the power cord
can be attached to continue use in corded operation. When the trimmer is
running with the power cord attached, the green light will remain off, even if
the battery is partially or fully discharged. The trimmer will not charge while
in use with the cord attached.
USING ATTACHMENT COMBS
Your trimmer comes complete with 6 attachment combs: 1/2", 3/8", 1/4",
7 day, 5 day and 3 day (Figure B). To use, slide front of attachment comb
over the teeth of the blade. Snap comb down over back of blade (Figures C
& D).
BLADES
When trimming is complete, slide ON/OFF switch to OFF position and
remove the attachment comb (if being used). Lightly brush out blades with
the blade cleaning brush provided. For best results put a drop of Andis
Clipper Oil on the blade when necessary. Motor bearings are permanently
lubricated–do not attempt to oil. Blades should be handled carefully and
never bumped or used to cut dirty or abrasive material.
USER MAINTENANCE
If trimmer is not going to be used for a long period of time, store in a safe,
cool, dry place. Do not wrap adapter cord tightly around trimmer. Do not
hang the trimmer by the adapter cord.
The internal mechanism of your trimmer has been permanently lubricated at
the factory. Other than the recommended maintenance described in this
manual, no other maintenance should be performed, except by Andis
Company or an Andis Authorized Service Station. To find an Andis
Authorized Service Station near you log on to www.andis.com or contact

(Canada).
CARE AND SERVICING OF YOUR ANDIS TRIMMER BLADES
Blades should be oiled before, during, and after each use. If your trimmer
blades leave streaks or slows down, it’s a sure sign blades need oil. The
trimmer should be held in a position shown (Figure E) to prevent oil from
getting into motor. Place a few drops of Andis Clipper Oil on the front and
side of the cutter blades (Figure F). Wipe excess oil off blades with a soft
dry cloth. Spray lubricants contain insufficient oil for good lubrication, but
5
are an excellent trimmer coolant. Always replace broken or nicked blades to
prevent injury. You can clean the excess hair from your blades by using a
small brush or worn out tooth brush. To clean the blades we suggest to
immerse the blades only into a shallow pan of Andis Clipper Oil, while the
trimmer is running. Any excess hair and dirt that has accumulated between
the blades should come out. After cleaning, turn your trimmer off and dry
blades with a dry cloth and start clipping again.
USE GUIDELINES FOR LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES
1. The lithium-ion battery included with your trimmer does not develop a
“memory effect” like a nickel-metal hydride (NiMH), or nickel cadmium
(NiCd) battery. You can return the trimmer to the charger at any time for
a full charge, or even use the battery before a charge cycle is complete.
Like most rechargeable batteries, lithium-ion batteries perform best when
used frequently.
2. For maximum battery life, store the trimmer in a partially discharged
condition if the unit will be unused for several months. To discharge the
battery, run the trimmer until it automatically shuts off.
3. Avoid locating the trimmer near heat vents, radiators, or in direct
sunlight. Optimum charging will result where the temperature is stable.
Sudden increases in temperature can result in the battery receiving less
than a full charge.
4. Many factors influence lithium-ion battery life. A battery that has received
heavy use or is more than a year old may not give the same run-time
performance as a new battery pack.
5. New lithium-ion batteries, unused for a period of time, may not accept a
full charge. This is normal and does not indicate a problem with the
battery or charger. The battery will accept a full charge after several
cycles of trimmer use and recharging.
6. Disconnect the charger or the trimmer from the AC outlet if extended
periods of non-use are anticipated.
BATTERY DISPOSAL
The product you have purchased contains a rechargeable battery. The
battery is recyclable. Please dispose of this battery in a responsible manner.
Check with your local solid waste officials for the details in your area for
recycling options or proper disposal.
FACTORY REPAIR SERVICE
When the blades of your Andis trimmer become dull after repeated use, it is
advised to purchase a new set of blades available through your Andis supplier
or through an Andis Authorized Service Station. If you wish your trimmer to
be serviced as well, it should be carefully packed and mailed either Parcel
