How It Works
The Amana® water filtration system provides water
treatment with a revolutionary 2-stage design.
• Removes sediment particles down to 1/2 micron
in size.
• Reduces more than 90% of lead.
• Reduces more than 99% of chlorine.
• Removes more than 99.99% of Cryptosporidium.
• Removes more than 99.99% of Giardia.
• Removes bad tastes and odors.
In first stage of treatment, a special filtration media
reduces excess rust, dirt, sand, and chlorine. In second
stage of treatment a solid carbon block reduces
waterborne, disease-causing protozoa, such as
cryptosporidium and giardia, and reduces lead, chlorine,
bad taste, and odor.
The Amana® water filtration system reduces sediments
in your water supply before they reach your refrigerator.
This extends the life of ice maker components.
Caution
To avoid property damage, observe the
following:
• Confirm water pressure to water valve is
at least 35 pounds per square inch (PSIG)
(244 Kilopascals).
• Confirm water pressure to water valve
does not exceed 120 PSIG
(828 Kilopascals).
• Do not install water filtration system on a
hot water line or in direct sunlight.
• Maximum operating temperature is 125°F
(52°C).
• Confirm rated service flow is 0.6 gallons
per minute (GPM) (2.3 liters per minute).
• Check carefully for water leaks after
water filter installation and 24 hours after
installation.
• Water filtration system is not to be
installed in conjunction with another
water filtration system, such as a reverse
osmosis filter.
Important
• Amana recommends having your water supply
tested for sediment content prior to water filtration
system installation.
• To prevent high sediment content in water supply
from causing water filtration system prematurely
reaching its capacity, a prefilter is available,
part #R0185009.
• Installation is to be performed after water line to
refrigerator has been installed.
• Verify water pressure is at least 35 PSIG, before
installing water filter.
• These installation instructions are intended for
application with refrigerator only.
• Amana recommends having plumber install water
filtration system according to local codes.
1. Choose location of water filtration system.
• To remove tubing from quick connect fittings hold
collet in and pull tube out. Do not attempt to turn
fittings when removing tubing.
Safety Instructions
Recognize this symbol as a safety
precaution.
WARNING
To avoid electrical shock which can cause
severe personal injury or death, disconnect
power to refrigerator before installing water
filtration system. After installing system,
reconnect power.
Caution
To avoid personal injury or property damage
do not use water filter where the water is
microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality
without adequate disinfection before or after
filter.

Materials Required
Important
• Amana recommends using 1/4" O.D. flexible
copper tubing to connect household plumbing to
refrigerator. Do not use self-piercing valve.
Amana is not responsible for property damage
due to improper installation or water connection.
1. Water filtration system is designed to be installed
vertically in waterline between supply line and
refrigerator.
Beneath a countertop or kitchen sink,
or on a floor joist in your basement.
2. Turn off water supply.
3. Place mounting bracket in desired location. Allow a
minimum of 14" (356 mm) beneath mounting
bracket and 3" (76 mm) on either side of bracket
for cartridge installation and replacement. Mark
location of mounting bracket holes with pencil.
4. If wall anchors are needed drill 3/16" (5 mm) pilot
holes, 1" (25 mm) deep. Push plastic wall anchors
into holes .
5. Insert and tighten screws to secure bracket.
4
Replacing Cartridges
6. Cut refrigerator cold water supply line where water
filtration system will be located. If you have 6 mm
supply line, remove 1/4” quick connect fittings and
use 6 mm quick connect fittings.
7. Slide inlet into quick connect fitting until tubing
stops, approximately 1/2" (13 mm).
8. Flush cartridge by removing filter cartridge from
cartridge head, shutting off water flow at inlet fitting.
Turn on water supply at water valve. Place bucket
next to outlet fitting on cartridge head to catch
water. Replace cartridge and run approximately 1
quart of water through water filtration system.
Remove cartridge from cartridge head and turn off
water at water valve. Replace cartridge.
9. Slide outlet tube into quick connect fitting until
tubing stops, approximately 1/2" (13 mm).
Cartridge needs to be replaced after 800 gallons of
water (3028 liters) or 1 year of use, whichever comes
first. Local water quality may affect rated life of filter.
2. Turn cartridge counterclockwise until cartridge
stops.
3. Pull cartridge down and discard.
4. Write date of installation on replacement cartridge.
5 . Fill replacement cartridge with water. Dump water
out of cartridge and refill.
6. Place cartridge full of water under cartridge
head.
7. Push new cartridge into head.
8. Turn cartridge clockwise until cartridge stops.
9. Discard first 3 batches of ice after replacing
cartridge.
Caution
Do not use water filtration system if cartridge
has been allowed to freeze or has not been
used for several months. Filtration ability will
be decreased. Replace cartridge.
10. Turn on water supply. Correct any leaks.
Important
• Initial cubes may be small or irregular in size until
air is expelled from system.
• Discard first 3 batches of ice after connecting
water filtration system to water supply.
• If installed to water dispenser, flush several
glasses of water before use.
Troubleshooting
• Cloudy or colored water.
Cloudy appearance in filtered water is caused
by air bubbles trapped in water. This does not
affect cartridge performance and will disappear
with use.
• Flakes in cold water or ice.
Concentrations of minerals in water will form
particles when water becomes frozen and
melts. Particles are not harmful.
• Slow water flow rate.
Cartridge has reached its capacity. Replace
cartridge.
• Unusual taste.
Cartridge has reached its capacity. Replace
cartridge.
• Black particles in ice cubes.
Initial water ejected through cartridge may
contain black particles which are caused by
harmless carbon dust being flushed from
cartridge. Particles are safe for consumption.
