AT-VP504E FXS
Quick Start
The following steps allowyou to quickly setup and work withyour AT-VP504E FXS.
For more details on the setup options, please read the AT-VP504E FXS
AdministrationManual.
Note: The IP Communication Server must also be installed on a machine
accessible by the network in order to take full advantage of the
AT-VP504E FXS. Please refer to the IP Communication Server Manual
for more details on how to install and configure it.
Step 1 - To connect the AT-VP504E FXS hardware:
1. Connect analog telephones or fax machines to Ports 1, 2, 3, and 4.
2. Connecta10/100BaseTEthernetRJ-45 cable intotheEthernetconnector
of the AT-VP504E FXS and connect the other end to a compatible
Ethernet interface that supplies TCP/IP network a ccess (e.g. router,
switch, hub or computer).
3. Connect a PSTN line into the Bypass port of the AT-VP504E FXS
(optional).
4. Connect the power supply to the AT-VP504E FXS and then connect the
power cable to an electrical outlet.
The electrical outlet shall be installed near the AT-VP504E FXS so that it

Note: You must configure your DHCP server to send the Unit Manager IP
address to the AT-VP504E FXS. Please refer to your administration
manual.
Step 2 - Provisioning Sequence
WhentheAT-VP504E FXSisfirstpoweredon,itneedstheconfigurationdatabefore
it can support calls. This p rocess is known as provisioning. There are several
components involved in Provisioning. The DHCP Server provides general network
information and the Unit Manager downloads the remaining configuration using
TFTP.
1. When the AT-VP504E FXS boots, it broadcasts a message requesting
DHCP services.
2. The DHCP server then responds with a set of IP addresses and network
parameters, one of which is the AT-VP504E FXS IP address.
The following basic network parameters are assigned via DHCP:
• AT-VP504E FXS IP address
• Subnet Mask
• Default Router IP address
• Primary DNS IP address
• Secondary DNS IP address
• Unit Manager IP address and port number
• Call Agent IP address and port number
3. The AT-VP504E FXS uses the IP address of the Unit Manager requesting
its configuration.
4. The Unit Manager configures the AT-VP504E FXS.

Note: Some hardware versions have an ON/OFF switch on the back of
the unit.
The AT-VP504E FXS begins its initial provisioning sequence when
powered on. The automatic start up is the easiest way to have your
AT-VP504E FXS connected and ready to be used. However, you will miss
one critical element: its IP address.
If you have no way to determine the IP address attributed to your
AT-VP504E FXS, you will have to perform a recovery mode reset. The
procedure is described in the AT-VP504E FXS Administration Manual.
Note: The MAC address is essential if you want to reserve a specific IP
address in the DHCP server. The MAC address is printed on the label
located at the bottom of the AT-VP504E FXS.
1.Only valid for units that run the MGCP signallingp rotocol.
