• last, any input sources
CONTROLS
Front Panel
Couple Switch
1. Dual mono- Two independent channels are used in this mode (Couple switch up)
2. Ch 1 master- When the Couple Switch is engaged, channel 1 will take
control of both channels and override all the controls and switches of
channel 2 with the exception of the SC Monitor, SC External, SC Filter,
Bypass and Peak Limi ter control
Expander/Gate
3. Threshold control- Adjusts the threshold level for the Expander/Gate section
4. Ratio control- Determines the expansion ratio when the signal drops below the threshold level.
5. Threshold LED- The "+" LED lights up when the audio signal goes below the set Threshold. The "-" LED lights up when being used as an expander
6. Threshold control- Adjusts the threshold level for the Compressor section. SKC (Smart Knee Control) is
applied to the audio signal when a maximum of 10dB above the set threshold is reached. Above 10dB, a
hard knee compression is applied
7. Threshold LED- Shows the state of the input signal in relation to the threshold level. If the input signal
falls below the set threshold level the left "-" LED will light up and the signal will not be compressed. If the
input signal rises above the set threshold level, this signal will be compressed and the SKC level will be
shown by the middle "0" LED
8. Ratio control- The ratio between the input and output level of audio signals exceeding the set threshold
9. Attack control- Determines how fast the compressor reacts to audio signals that will exceed the set threshold
10. Release control- Determines how fast the compressor returns to unity gain when the audio signal falls below the threshold level
11. Auto switch- Allows the attack and release controls to be automatically set based on the audio signal
12. Output gain control- Adjusts the output signal by a maximum of 20dB to recover the level lost during
compression
13. SC external switch- Separates the connection between the audio input and the sidechain path but
allows an external signal through the Sidechain return jack
14. SC Monitor Switch- Connects the sidechain control signal to the audio output, muting the audio input
and monitoring the sidechain signal being returned via external signal processors
15. Sidechain filter switch- Activates a low-cut filter in the sidechain path, eliminating unwanted noise
generated by low frequencies
16. Smart switch- Hard knee mode will be converted into SKC (Smart Knee Control) mode for musically
transparent compression
17. Bypass switch- Turns off the corresponding channel, to make an A/B comparison of the processed and
unprocessed signal
18. Input/output meter switch- Switches to the input level meter when turned on; switches to the output
level meter when turned off
19. Input/output level meter- Displays the input or output level
20. Gain reduction meter- Displays the amount of gain reduction
Limiter
21. Threshold control- Controls the level of the Limiter
22. Limiter LED- Lights up when the Limiter function is activated

25. Audio in- Balanced ¼” TRS phone jack and XLR input connectors
26. Audio out- Balanced ¼” TRS phone jack and XLR output connectors
27. Operating level control- Sets the operating level to either -10dBV or the +4dBu
28. Sidechain send- 1/4" unbalanced jack to route audio to an external processor
29. Sidechain return- 1/4" jack processes the return signal sent from an external processor

APPLICATIONS
The 3632 can be used in a variety of situations including:
Compressor- If an audio signal exceeds the set threshold; the audio signal will be reduced in gain in
proportion with the amount above the set threshold.
Ducking- Ducking allows background music to automatically be turned down whenever an external source,
such as an announcer's voice, begins to speak. To use the compressor as a ducker, plug the announcer's
mic into a mixer and feed that mic to the compressor's Sidechain in. Plug the music source into the 3632
inputs. Set the compressor controls like this: Threshold set for +3dB , Ratio set for 6:1, turn on the Smart
switch for SKC mode, Attack set around 1ms, set the Release around 1 second. When the announcer
speaks, the music will duck down (turn the ratio up to duck it even lower). When the announcer finishes
speaking, the music will fade in at a rate set by the Release knob.
Limiter- Set the 3632 with a high ratio and a high threshold. Softer sections will remain uncompressed and
louder peaks will be kept under control. Set the Threshold so that the loudest sections get around -6 of
reduction, set the Ratio for 6:1, and turn on the Smart switch for SKC mode.
Noise gate- A noise gate is also a type of expander. Since hiss and noise are quieter than the sound of an
instrument, using a compressor as a gate, only the intentional sounds pass – everything else is lowered in
volume, reducing unwanted noise in a track. When the signal drops beneath the set threshold, the gate
activates.
De-Essing- Occasionally when recording vocals, high frequency "s" sounds can jump out louder than the
rest of the audio. By placing an equalizer in the sidechain, you can set the compressor so that only certain
frequency ranges trigger the unit to start compressing. Set the EQ to cut all frequencies except for the sibilant
range, between 3-6kHz. Then set the 3632 like this: Threshold set around 0dB, Ratio set for 6:1, Attack set at
1ms, Release set around 0.1ms.
Expander- An expander is a compressor in reverse and increases the dynamic range of the audio signal,
making quiet sounds even quieter by reducing the level of an audio signal that falls below a set threshold
level. Signals above the threshold remain at unity gain whereas signals below the threshold are reduced in
gain.
Rack Mounting
For secure mounting, a universal rack shelf can be used (available from various rack manufacturers or your
music dealer). The 3632 fits into a standard 19" rack space unit. Allow at least an additional 4" depth for
cabling on the rear panel. Be sure that there is enough air space around the unit for sufficient ventilation and
do not place the 3632 on high temperature devices such as power amplifiers etc. to avoid overheating.

GUÍA DE INICIO RÁPIDO (ESPAÑOL)
Expander/Gate (Expansor/Compuerta)
expansor
