Features
Compact MPLS-enabled platform for highly available service delivery
With its small footprint, 10GigE uplinks and leading MPLS capabilities, the Alcatel-Lucent 7210 SAS is ideally suited to extend the Carrier Ethernet aggregation infrastructure into smaller network locations and extend the service intelligence into the customer premise. The 7210 SAS supports two 10GigE Small Form Factor Pluggable (XFP) optical ports and twenty-four GigE Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) optical ports. MPLS-enabled variants support MPLS and Ethernet across all ports, and features include resource reservation protocol – traffic engineering (RSVP-TE), label distribution protocol (LDP) and targeted LDP (T-LDP), along with resiliency mechanisms including fast reroute (FRR), primary and secondary label switched paths (LSPs), pseudowire redundancy and MPLS-TE graceful shutdown for highly available service delivery.
Delivering advanced Carrier Ethernet VPN services
By extending SLAs into the customer edge, the 7210 SAS enables innovative and differentiated retail and wholesale Carrier Ethernet VPN services such as virtual private LAN service (VPLS), hierarchical (H-VPLS) and virtual leased line (VLL) services along with Ethernet access to enhanced Internet services (IES) and IP VPN services. Industry and enterprise customers that operate their own networks can also innovate and enhance the services they provide to their internal customers. Innovative SLAs require end-to-end service delivery and simplified management with differentiation based on reliability, quality of service (QoS) and OAM tools. To meet the requirements to support mission-critical applications, the Alcatel-Lucent 7210 SAS supports MPLS resiliency mechanisms and an extensive OAM toolkit. When combined with the per-service attributes of
the Alcatel-Lucent SR OS, end-to-end business VPN services can be enabled to solve enterprise networkingcomplexities with guaranteed QoS per application over redundant uplinks across an IP/MPLS network.
Advanced H-QoS
With traffic streams of today’s Ethernet services consisting of video applications, voice, best-effort Internet access, and mission-critical business services, QoS becomes a critical element for delivering both best-effort and SLA-based services. Using service and network level queuing, granular shaping, policing, and marking of service traffic and per-service guarantee capabilities, the Alcatel-Lucent 7210 SAS supports H-QoS to provide more enhanced business VPN services. These services enable multiservice SLAs to ensure performance parameters for individual enterprise applications (for example, bandwidth, delay, jitter) are met while providing bandwidth efficiency by allowing lower priority applications to burst when higher priority applications go idle.
Carrier Ethernet service aggregation
For consolidated business, residential and Ethernet-centric mobile service aggregation applications, including more service-intensive environments with burst requirements in smaller network locations, the 7210 SAS provides five compact platform options to cost-optimize infrastructure buildouts based on networking requirements such as service queues, packet buffers, counters, LSPs, MAC addresses and ACLs.
Extensive OAM tools with performance measurement
To support differentiated services that are managed into the customer edge, the Alcatel-Lucent 7210 SAS provides a suite of per-service Ethernet and MPLS OAM service assurance capabilities. These tools include ITU-T Y.1731, IEEE 802.1ag, IEEE 802.3ah, VPLS
OAM and local service mirroring. The 7210 SAS hardware-based implementation of ITU-T Y.1731 enables accurate measurements of performance parameters (for example, jitter, latency and packet loss). As well, its robust implementation of ITU-T Y.1731 ensures performance measurement does not impact system performance. Finally, the 7210 SAS in concert with the 5620 SAM supports the AlcatelLucent service assurance agent (SAA).
Comprehensive management to the customer edge
The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 SAM simplifies the end-to-end management of Carrier Ethernet services, giving the operator a comprehensive, easy-to-use fault management system, integrated SR OS OAM toolkit for SLA compliance, threshold crossing alerts, per-service provisioning with GUI-based templates, and customized service portal capabilities. Full integration of MPLS-enabled 7210 SAS variants with the Alcatel-Lucent 5650 Control Plane Assurance Manager (CPAM) provides IP/MPLS control plane visualization, surveillance and path computation. The Operations Support System (OSS) Connected Partner program offers certified integration with industryleading OSS applications, including service assurance, provisioning and traffic engineering.
Deployment flexibility
The flexibility of the 7210 SAS platform provides cost-optimized build-outs with five variant options designed to meet specific networking requirements over ring or mesh topologies. The Ethernet and MPLS-enabled variants have the versatility for use as customer premise equipment in single tenant and multitenant offices as well as campus environments or in smaller network locations. To meet ever-increasing bandwidth requirements, 10GigE ports are supported. The MPLS-enabled variants support ITU-T Sync-E for the distribution of accurate network timing and synchronization over Carrier Ethernet

infrastructures. The 7210 SAS provides an option to deploy devices in more severe environments that require extended temperature ranges. Finally, the 7210 SAS also provides theflexibility to support SFPs and XFPs with digital diagnostic monitoring (DDM) capabilities and coarse wave division multiplexing (CWDM) SFPs.
Backhauling TDM-based applications
To extend the life of enterprise’s valued TDM equipment, or transition enterprise off legacy SONET/SDH networks, the Alcatel-Lucent 7210 SAS supports circuit emulation services (CES). Using an optional four port T1/E1 CES service expansion module, the 7210 SAS supports MPLS Martini Pseudowire Emulation Edge to Edge (PWE3), Structure Agnostic TDM over Packet (SAToP) and Adaptive Clock Recovery (ACR) to transparently carry TDM-based data, video and voice appli cations across the IP/MPLS infrastructure.
Proven end-to-end operating system
The Alcatel-Lucent SR OS is a carriergrade, highly fault-tolerant, and feature-rich operating system that operates across the entire AlcatelLucent SR portfolio. With a single operating system across all SR product families, operators can be assured of consistent service definitions, reliable operations and per-service management for seamless service extension when deploying the Alcatel-Lucent 7210 SAS for VPLS and H-VPLS (also referred to as E-LAN by the MEF) multi-point services, VLL (also referred to as E-Line by the MEF) point-to-point services, along with Ethernet access to IES and IP VPN services over an Alcatel-Lucent network.
Benefits
Increase revenues with innovative, differentiated services
Today’s enterprise is challenged with increasing bandwidth requirements, a dependence on applications to give them a competitive edge, a drive to contain networking costs, and widely distributed internal and external network users. Enterprise also wants proof that they are receiving value for their VPN services. By extending the SR OS and 5620 SAM reach into the customer edge operators can solve enterprise networking challenges using VPLS, H-VPLS and VLL services with stringent SLAs that support a full suite of demanding enterprise applications over redundant uplinks. Industry and enterprise customers that operate their own networks can also use stringent SLAs to ensure application availability for their internal users. The Alcatel-Lucent 7210 SAS delivers end-to-end service richness, advanced OAM and simplified management to increase revenues with a full suite of innovative, differentiated services. Advanced SR OS OAM tools areintegrated into the 5620 SAM and allow operators to accurately monitor and measure SL A parameters for higher value business VPN services. Operators can create Carrier Ethernet VPN service leadership with multiservice SLAs using service-aware H-QoS to ensure that performance parameters for individual enterprise applications are met, while allowing traffic bursts for bandwidth efficiency. For further service innovation, operators increase revenue and customer loyalty using CES to transparently carry TDM-based data, voice and videoappli cations across the IP/MPLS infrastructure.
Cost-optimized Carrier Ethernet build-outs
Ethernet has formed the basis of the largest customer edge and metro aggre gation build-outs. With its compact form factor, MPLS features, 10GigE capabilities, a range oftaskspecific networking variants and
service scale, the Alcatel-Lucent 7210 SAS enables operators to costeffectively scale Carrier Ethernet infrastructure build-outs in smaller central offices and hub sites, which both reduces CAPEX and OPEX while increasing revenues with value-added VPNs. Leveraging an MPLS-enabled Carrier Ethernet platform enables consolidation of next-generation business, residential, business and Ethernet-centric mobile services on a compact platform. It also provides seamless integration with the IP/MPLS provider edge to extend Carrier Ethernet service reach over metro, national and international geographies. The availability of 10GigE uplinks allow operators to scale service bandwidth toward 10GigE without the cost of additional fiber build-outs. As well, operators can reliably deliver synchronous-based applications — including TDM and mobile backhaul services — using ITU-T Sync-E.
Maximize operational efficiency and service assurance
The tight integration of 5620 SAM and 5650 CPAM with SR OS enables operators to maximize operational efficiency and improve service assurance, thereby reducing operational expenditures. The 5620 SAM enables rapid provisioning that expedites time to market while minimizing the chance of operator error. It also provides proactive troubleshooting to identify problems before they affect customers, resulting in improved customer satisfaction. The service assurance agent streamlines performance measurement of SLA service attributes for increased value to end users in the way of accurate billing, service verification, SLAmonitoring, and the ability to proactively predict SLA threshold violations. The Alcatel-Lucent 5650 CPAM enables operators to proactively detect abnormal control plane behavior and rapidly resolve problems by visualizing control plane topology and routing config uration for improved overall service availability.

Operators looking to further differentiate their services and increase revenue can offer web-based, self-service portals to end users, allowing them to order service changes, monitor service quality, view real-time reports, and request and change application treatment and diagnostics.
Reduced cost of customer acquisition
As operators extend the reach of their Carrier Ethernet services into thecustomer edge, they are often faced with a very aggressive business case. One of the most difficult pain points foroperators is the cost of customer acquisition. As an SR OS and 5620 SAM-enabled
provides seamless service extension into 7450 ESS, 7705 SAR, 7750 SR and 7710 SR IP/MPLS transformation solutions. This underpins the business case for acquiring new customers and gives operators an advanced service delivery platform while minimizing training, service configuration, testing cycles, and OSS integration costs.
