Chapter 1: Introduction
Overview
The GEN10 is a cost effective and flexible SD/HD/AES sync generator. The GEN10 features
7 outputs including 2 groups of independently controlled SD/HD sync outputs and 1
AES-11 output. The SD outputs can be switched between Color Black or Color Bars. HD
tri-level sync can be switched between 19 different HD formats including all that are in
use today. The AES-11 output can be switched between SILENCE and TONE. All outputs
are in sync with each-other and are sourced from an accurate master time base.
Features
• HD Tri-level sync generation
• SD Color Black or Color Bars
• Two groups of independently switchable outputs allows simultaneous HD and SD sync
generation
• AES-11 output switchable between silence and tone
• Multiple outputs can synchronize entire systems without requiring a Sync DA
• Uses universal input +5V power supply AJA model DWP-U-R1 (included)
• External Dip Switch Configuration

User Controls
GEN10 Mini-Converter v1.0r2www.aja.com
The user interface for the GEN10 is an 8-switch DIP accessible through a cut-out in the
bottom of the unit, and an internal jumper block accessed by removing the GEN10 cover
(secured by 4 screws).
Use the jumper to configure the NTSC Pedestal. Then use the DIP switches to configure
the sync generator formats.
Factory default settings are internal jumper installed (NTSC with Setup: 54 mV pedestal
offset), and all the DIP switches in the leftmost position. The exact function of the jumper
settings and each DIP switch are described in
5
“Operation” on page 7.
Installation
Typically, GEN10 installation consists of the following:
1. Disconnect +5VDC from the converter.
2. If you wish to operate the GEN10 in NTSC without Setup (no offset), open the case
and set the internal jumper as required.
3. Configure the DIP switches for the desired sync generator formats.
4. Connect external devices to the converter BNCs.
5. Apply power to the converter.

Internal Jumper
An internal jumper block with 3 jumpers determines the offset to Pedestal for NTSC. For
most instances, the factory default (all jumpers in place) will be the proper setting.
NOTE: If you will be using the GEN10 only to generate HD signals, or SD NTSC signals with Setup, no
jumper changes are required. Configuration is accomplished using the external DIP switches.
• Jumper 1 removed: NTSC without Setup (no offset)
NOTE: Jumpers 2 and 3 are ignored—installed or not, they do not affect operation.
To access the internal jumpers, remove the four Phillips screws securing the back side of
the case (the side having the DIP switch access hole in it). Once the case cover is
removed, jumper positions 1 through 3 are clearly marked on the circuit board next to
the jumper.
