GSM Mobile Station Basics
and Measurements for Engineers
Class # H7216 Option 301
This 2-day course teaches engineers the GSM
cellular system, including basic GSM technology
and ETSI standards. The class provides insight
into the various measurements and their specifications and how to interpret results. It uses the
HP 8960 Series 10 wireless communications test
set to demonstrate different GSM measurements
and provides some hands-on experience.
RF Communications Basics Training
RF Basics - Class # H7216 Option 101
RF Basics provides wireless communications
technicians and engineers with a background in
basic RF transmission theory and concepts.
Emphasis is on the practical applications of fundamental RF principles in real-world wireless
communications systems. Topics include
baseband signals, time and frequency domain,
AM and FM modulation, harmonics, transmitters
and receivers, transmission lines, dB theory,
SWR and Insertion Loss, antennas, multipath and
fading, combiners and splitters, filters, amplifiers, feedlines, grounding and protection.
Analog and Digital Communications
Fundamentals - Class # H72716 Option 304
This course builds on the RF Basics course. It
teaches analog and digital cellular communication systems. Students discuss the similarities
and differences between analog and digital
technologies, and some of the advantages of
each method. They learn how to make measurements of analog mobile phones, and how to
interpret the results of these measurements.
Digital concepts will be discussed, but no digital
tests are made, as these are done in the followon courses which deal with the specific digital
access technologies: GSM, CDMA, and DAMPS.

Mobile Testing - Class # H7216 Option 401
This 1.5-day course will teach experienced GSM
radio test programmers how to take advantage of
the designed-for-manufacturing remote user interface features and new reduced instruction
parallel processing (RIPP) architecture of production code. During the lab section of this class,
students will design a production test scenario
and write code to implement the test with help
from an experienced HP instructor.
Introduction to the HP TS-5500
Learn about the hardware resources and software features of the HP TS-5500. Familiarize
yourself with the hardware interconnections of
the system. Understand how to create, edit, and
debug test programs, actions and operator

The HP 66311B mobile communications dc
source functions as an electronic battery when
testing digital cellular phones. Its integrated
design combines the battery and charger testing functions in a compact half-rack package.
It provides up to 5-amp peak current sourcing
that is necessary for today’s telephone technologies and the margin for tomorrow’s technologies. A proprietary non-linear compensation technique provides fast output response
with excellent transient response and low transient-voltage drop for stable sourcing over a
wide variety of designs and wiring configurations. It enables accurate measurement of the
high-level peak pulse currents experienced
during talk mode as well as microampere currents experienced during standby mode. A proprietary NEW feature detects open sense connections in the test fixture that can prevent
