Service of the freezer should be carried out by an authorised service company, and only original spare parts should be used. See under “Guarantee Conditions and Service”.
It is dangerous to alter the freezer specifications, or to change the freezer in any other way.
Make sure that the freezer is not placed on top of the mains cable.
Do not re-freeze food once it has been defrosted. Observe the recommendations for storage carefully.
See under “Helpful Hints”. This freezer includes components that are heated
during operation. Consequently, adequate ventilation must always be provided. If ventilation is insufficient defects may occur, resulting in the loss of food. See under “Installation”.
The inside of the freezer contains pipes through which coolant flows. If these pipes are punctured the freezer may be damaged beyond repair, and food may be lost. Do not use sharp implements to remove frost or ice. Frost can be removed using the enclosed scraper. Do not knock ice off the sides of the freezer, but remove it by defrosting the freezer. See under “Maintenance”.
Do not place drinks in the freezer. Bottles and cans containing carbonic acid or sparkling drinks are particularly prone to explosion, which may damage the freezer.
This freezer is heavy. Take care when moving it. If the freezer is fitted with a lock to prevent tampering
by children, the key must always be kept safely out of the reach of children, and far away from the freezer.
Before disposing of an old freezer, make sure that the lock (if present) no longer works. This is to prevent
accidents and avoid the danger of children getting locked inside.
Ice lollies can cause frostbite if eaten direct from the freezer.
Make sure that the power plug is not squashed or damaged by the back of the fridge/freezer.
- A damaged power plug may overheat and cause a fire.
Do not place heavy articles or the fridge/freezer itself on the power cord.
- There is a risk of a short circuit and fire.
Do not remove the power cord by pulling on its lead, particularly when the fridge/freezer is being pulled out of its niche.
- Damage to the cord may cause a short-circuit, fire and/or electric shock.
- If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a certified service agent or qualified ser vice personnel.
If the power plug socket is loose, do not insert the power plug.

DESCRIPTION OF EQUIPMENT (2)
Control panel
1. Temperature controller and signal lamp of the control
section (green)
2. FROSTMATIC button for quick freezing and
FROSTMATIC signal lamp (yellow)
3. AVERTISSEMENT ARRET (alarm acknowledgement)
(to stop the acoustic alarm signal) and alarm signal lamp (red).
4. Digital temperature display.
HOW TO USE
DIGITAL TEMPERATURE DISPLAY
Each model is provided with a digital temperature display built in the cover grip. During normal operation, it indicates the temperature of frozen goods in °C. Nevertheless, there may be certain exceptions as follows:
- In CONGÉLATION RAPIDE (quick freezing) mode,
"ĘSPĘ" is displayed.
- If the temperature sensor is failed, a small rectangle is
displayed on the upper or lower right corner of the
display (see chapter: Procedure in case of…).
The temperature indicator displays the
temperature of the frozen goods and, as a result, shows relatively slow changes e.g. in the case that goods are added. If the cover remains open for long time, it may occur that the temperature alarm trips while the temperature indicator remains unchanged. This is not a failure. Press the button AVERTISSEMENT ARRET (alarm acknowledgement) to stop the acoustic alarm signal. The red alarm signal lamp extinguishes after a certain time.
TEMPERATURE ALARM
If the temperature in the freezer becomes too high, the acoustic alarm sounds and the red alarm signal lamp flashes.
The acoustic alarm signal sounds and the red alarm signal lamp lights up:
- on putting the equipment into service until the
temperature necessary for conservation is reached; or if the temperature of conservation cannot be maintained any more (malfunction;
- after loading fresh food in a quantity exceeding the
freezing capacity (see "Freezing");
- if the cover remains open for long time.
Press the button AVERTISSEMENT ARRET (alarm
acknowledgement) to stop the acoustic alarm signal. The red alarm signal lamp continues to flash until the freezer reaches the proper temperature.
The acoustic alarm signal fails to sound and the
red alarm indicator fails to light up
- if the power supply to the equipment fails;
- in the case that the electronic temperature controller is
failed.
PRIOR TO PUTTING INTO SERVICE
Clean the inside of equipment and all the appliances prior to putting into service the first time (see chapter: "Cleaning and maintenance")
Remove the heat accumulators if provided. Do not place the heat accumulators on the bottom of
freezer and do not freeze them but only once at the time the optimum temperature of - 18 °C necessary for conservation is reached.
After approx. 24 hours, place the heat accumulators
- if provided - in the freezing trays arranged in ranging baskets that are suspended at the upper part of the freezing space.
If the freezing trays are used for pre-freezing, the heat accumulators can also be placed directly on the frozen products in the ranging baskets that are suspended at the upper part of the freezing space.
If the heat accumulators are melted e.g. following the cleaning of equipment, they shall be frozen in the manner described above.
7
GB
PUTTING INTO SERVICE
Insert the plug connector into the mains receptacle and turn the temperature control knob by means of a coin. The green lamp indicating that the equipment is energized is lit.
- If the temperature control knob is in "OFF" position while the plug connector is inserted into the mains receptacle, the equipment does not function and the signal lamp does not lit.
- The equipment runs in the "CONGÉLATION RAPIDE" (quick freezing) mode for 5 hours and the yellow signal lamp is lit.
- To stop the CONGÉLATION RAPIDE mode, press the button CONGÉLATION RAPIDE for 2 seconds. The mark "SP" on the display disappears and the inner temperature is displayed; at the same time, the yellow signal lamp CONGÉLATION RAPIDE extinguishes.
Use the button AVERTISSEMENT ARRET (alarm acknowledgement) to stop the acoustic alarm signal. The red alarm signal lamp extinguishes automatically after a certain time.
Following the power supply failure or on the first putting into service when the inside temperature of freezer is still too high, the equipment is set to CONGÉLATION RAPIDE mode for 5 hours. The display shows "SP". If you want to stop the equipment prior to the expiry of the five-hour period, press the button CONGÉLATION RAPIDE for 2 seconds.
ADJUSTING THE TEMPERATURE SETTING (3)
Use a coin to turn the temperature control knob. This is to render it more difficult to change the setting inadvertently (protection against children's action).
Position "Off" means that the equipment is switched off.
Position "1" means that the inside temperature is at its highest value.
Position "4" means that the inside temperature is at its lowest value.
Recommended setting: "2" or "3".
Use a coin and turn the temperature control knob to position "2" or "3".
The factors influencing the inside temperature are as follows:
- ambient temperature;
- quantity of foods to be conserved;
- frequency and duration of opening the cover.
Therefore, by means of the thermometer or digital display, respectively, depending on the type of equipment, verify at regular intervals whether the temperature of conservation is at its optimum value (-18 °C or less).
If necessary, readjust the temperature setting in a manner that the thermometer or digital display reads
-18 °C or above.
Scientific results show that a temperature of
-18 °C can be considered to be sufficient for the
conservation of foods.
ENERGY SAVING IN CASE OF HALF A LOAD OR PARTIAL LOAD (4, 5)
Certain types allow energy saving if only partly loaded.
To achieve this, rearrange the products at the bottom of freezer up to a height marked by a green line A on the separating wall.
Set the temperature control knob within the energy saving range marked B.
Verify whether the optimum conservation temperature of -18 °C or above is maintained.
Attention! If the goods are piled up to the height exceeding the green line, set the temperature control knob to "2" or "4".
SWITCHING THE EQUIPMENT OFF
To put the equipment out of service, turn the temperature control knob counterclockwise to "off" position. The green signal lamp is extinguished.
Putting the equipment out of service for prolonged time.
To put the equipment out of service, turn the temperature control knob counterclockwise to "off" position. The green signal lamp is extinguished. Then, disconnect the plug connector from the mains receptacle.
Disconnect the power supply from mains or disconnect or remove the fuse. De-ice the freezer and clean it carefully (see "Cleaning and maintenance).
Leave the cover open to prevent any smell from being formed.
FREEZING
Recommendation: for freezing fresh food, use the small
freezing compartment on the right side of separating wall (see also "Interior of equipment /separating wall"). This enables the fresh food to be separated from those already frozen. Take always care of preventing the food already frozen from being melted as a result of contact with fresh food. If the freezing compartment is insufficient, part of goods can also be placed in the large compartment of conservation on the left side of separating wall.
Attention!
Prior to freezing foods, the inner temperature of freezer shall be of 18 °C or below.
Observe the freezing capacity indicated on the data label. The freezing capacity is the maximum quantity of fresh products that can be frozen within 24 hours. If the freezing is implemented during several subsequent days, only 2/3 or 3/4 of the quantity indicated on the data label shall be frozen.
Any food once melted is not allowed to be frozen at a second time without further processing (e.g. preparation of cold dishes).
8
GB
In order to utilize the maximum freezing capacity, depress the button "CONGÉLATION RAPIDE (quick freezing) for 2 seconds 24 hours in advance of the time the freezing is planned to begin or 4 to 6 hours in advance if only a small quantity of goods is to be frozen. The yellow signal lamp is lit and "SP" appears on the display.
It is not necessary to use the button FROSTMATIC for quantities not exceeding 3 kg.
Wrap the foods hermetically prior to freezing in order to prevent them from becoming dry, loosing their flavour or interacting with the flavour of other frozen foods. Caution! Do not touch the frozen products with wet hands; otherwise your hands may stick to the frozen product as a result of freezing.
Place the wrapped foods into the freezer. Make sure that they are in good contact with the side walls. The products not frozen shall not be in contact with those already frozen in order to prevent the latter from melting.
In order to freeze additional products, preserve the quick freezing setting. Alternatively, stop the quick freezing mode about 24 hours following the loading of goods (earlier in case of small quantities). To do this, depress the button FROSTMATIC again. The yellow FROSTMATIC signal lamp extinguishes.
If the "CONGÉLATION RAPIDE" button is not
depressed to stop the "CONGÉLATION RAPIDE" function, the equipment switches automatically to the normal mode after a 48-hour operation (the yellow signal lamp extinguishes and the display shows the inner temperature). Then, the equipment continues to operate in the mode determined by the setting of temperature control knob.
Advices:
For wrapping the goods to be frozen, use
- freezing bags and foils made of polyethylene;
- special boxes suitable for frozen food;
- aluminized paper of extra strength. For closing the bags and foils, use pairs of pincers
made of plastic, rubber bands or adhesive tapes. Prior to closing, purge the air from the bags and foils;
otherwise, the air promotes the drying of food and, in addition, occupies space.
Make small flat packages in order to accelerate the freezing.
Do not fill the special boxes to the brim with cream or liquid due to the dilatation occurring during freezing.
Remarks for the control services
Piling up plans for determining the freezing capacity or the time of re-heating are available on request directly from the manufacturer.
CONSERVATION OF FROZEN PRODUCTS
Attention! Prior to loading the freezer the first time with food already frozen, the temperature of -18 °C necessary for conservation shall be obtained.
Conserve only frozen foods that are wrapped in order to prevent them from becoming dry, loosing their flavour or interacting with the flavour of other frozen foods.
Observe the period of conservation or the conservation term of frozen product.
Conserve ice creams and fat foods in the lower part of freezer (near the bottom).
REPLACEMENT OF ELECTRIC BULBS (6)
Prior to replacement of electric bulbs, the equipment shall be disconnected from the mains. Unscrew the bulb and replace with a new one of the same type (max. 15 W) available commercially or with your After Sale Service.
Danger! Risk of electric shock! Prior to replacement of electric bulbs, remove the plug connector of equipment from the mains receptacle or disconnect or unscrew the fuse of lodgement.
Lamp specification: 220 to 240 V, max. 15 W, bulb holder: E 14.
PACKAGING AND POSITIONING
Food must be cold before freezing (no more than room temperature).
Food must be packed in airtight and moisture-proof packaging to prevent it from drying out.
Place fresh food for freezing close to the cold sides of the freezer, making sure that it is not in contact with the frozen food already in the freezer.
Never fill the freezer to more than 5 mm below the top edge.
See under “Helpful hints”.
CAPACITY (7)
The freezing capacity of the freezer is stated in the data plate (kg/24 hours). Do not exceed the amount stated - if you do, the freezing time will be extended. The data plate is located inside the lid.
IMPORTANT
The freezing capacity stated can be utilised to the full occasionally to freeze large amounts of fresh food. However, if the freezer is filled with large amounts of food for freezing every day, the capacity stated is reduced by about one-third.
LOCK (8)
(Not a standard accessory for all models.) The lock works as shown in the drawings. Remember to keep the key out of the reach of children.
PARTITION WALL
The partition wall can be taken out and used to collect drip water during defrosting. See under “Maintenance”.
BASKET (9)
The baskets are designed for the storage of food which has already been frozen. The handles can be placed in two positions, as shown in the drawings.
9
GB
The baskets can either be placed inside the freezer or hung on the edge of the casing.
LOW FROST SYSTEM
The patented LOW FROST System reduces the ice-buildup in the chest freezer by up to 80 percent, which results in up to five times longer periods between the requirement to defrost. To get the full benefit of the system, please observe the following points:
The amount of ice-build-up in any freezer is very much dependent of the moisture of the surrounding air. The ice will build up quicker in a humid climate than in a dry climate.
Therefore you should avoid installing your freezer in very humid surroundings. The LOW FROST system minimizes the amount of ice caused by the natural temperature cycle of the freezer. However, ice-build-up from other sources is not reduced. The most important other sources are poorly wrapped food and warm air introduced when the lid is opened.
Therefore, it is important to ensure that the lid isn’t opened unnecessarily, and the lid is not obstructed by packs of food when closed.
If food stored in the freezer is not wrapped properly, humidity from the food will settle as ice on the freezer walls. Food quality will also deteriorate, so ensure that food put in the freezer is wrapped well.
Maintenance and Cleaning. The LOW FROST system does not need any maintenance or cleaning during normal use. If needed the pipe can be wiped with a soft cloth. Do not use any sharp or piercing tools, as this may damage the system.
THE ROLE OF THE PRESSURE EQUALISATION VALVE (10)
The pressure equalisation valve installed in your freezer automatically eliminates the pressure difference which otherwise would make it very difficult or even impossible to open the lid.
It may be possible to hear the operation of the valve as the air flows in through the airing outlet in the rear wall of the cabinet.
For a safe operation, keep the two openings of the valve clear, do not cover them!
HELPFUL HINTS
STORAGE
Frozen food can be stored anywhere inside the
freezer, but should be kept at least 5 mm below the top edge. Never exceed the maximum storage time for purchased frozen food. When you buy frozen food, make sure that it has been stored at the correct temperature. Do not buy products which have wet or damaged packaging. Place purchased products in your freezer as quickly as possible. We recommend using an insulated bag to bring such products home with you. Never place bottles, warm objects, or fizzy drinks in the freezer.
FREEZING
Only use fresh food of the best quality. Cool hot
dishes to room temperature as quickly as possible
before placing them in the freezer. Wrap food carefully in freezer foil, or use the special freezer boxes or bags which are on the market. Divide food into small portions before freezing - this ensures that freezing is more rapid, and means that you only need to defrost the amount needed for immediate consumption.
Remember that defrosted food must not be re-frozen. However, dishes which have been made using defrosted food may be frozen. Mark the freezer packaging with the date of freezing. We recommend keeping a record of the contents of your freezer. If freezing is too slow, the quality of the food being frozen deteriorates. Consequently, do not freeze larger amounts than stated in the freezer’s data plate. If you wish to freeze food several days in a row, the maximum freezing capacity stated per day is reduced by about one-third. As far as possible, keep the lid closed during freezing. If you know nothing about home freezing, we recommend that you purchase a book containing advice and guidelines.
DEFROSTING
In general food should not be defrosted at room
temperature, since this increases the risk of bacteria growth. It is best to defrost large portions of meat or poultry in the refrigerator, and this also applies to food which is to be consumed as it is (e.g. fruit, butter and sliced meat). Small portions of food can be cooked straight from the freezer. A good number of ready-to-cook dishes can also be cooked without defrosting. Always observe the instructions on product packaging. Bread tastes good when defrosted in a moderate oven. Microwave ovens can be used for the rapid defrosting of most frozen foods. Observe the instructions for use of the microwave oven concerned.
ACCESSORIES (11)
Spare baskets can be obtained from your local
Service Centre. The illustrations on this page show how many baskets can be placed in the various freezer models. Measure the length of your freezer and find the appropriate illustration. The number above each illustration indicates its length in millimetres.
MAINTENANCE
DEFROSTING (12)
The formation of frost on the inside of freezers cannot be avoided. Frost is formed when moisture contained in the air comes into contact with the cold surfaces of the freezer.
Consequently, the lid should only be opened when necessary, and it should never be left open.
A thin layer of ice or frost does not affect the function of the freezer adversely, and can be removed carefully using the scraper provided.
IMPORTANT
Never use a knife or any other sharp implement to remove frost.
When the frost or ice layer is 10-15 mm thick, the freezer should be defrosted. We suggest that you defrost your freezer when there is little or no food inside.
10
Switch off the current. Remove the contents of the freezer, wrap them in newspapers, and leave them in a cold place.
The speed of defrosting can be increased by placing one or more bowls of hot (not boiling) water inside the freezer and closing the lid. Open the lid after a while, and remove the layer of ice carefully.
The defrost water can be collected in the partition wall as shown in the drawing.
Do not try to speed up defrosting by using anything other than hot water, since this may damage the freezer. After defrosting, clean the inside of the freezer.
IMPORTANT
Remember to replace the plug in the drip water drain.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR FREEZER INSIDE
Remove the plug from the mains socket, and remove all loose accessories before cleaning the freezer.
The best time to clean your freezer is after defrosting and before the electricity supply is connected again.
Use a damp cloth to clean your freezer. Use hot water, and a mild, non-aromatic cleaning agent.
After cleaning the freezer, clean the basket/baskets before replacing them.
IMPORTANT
Never use strong cleaning agents, scouring powder or strongly aromatic cleaning agents to clean your freezer inside, since this will damage the inside and leave a strong smell.
EXTERNAL CLEANING
Wash the outer cabinet with warm soapy water. Do NOT use abrasive products.
WHEN NOT IN USE
Disconnect the appliance from the electricity supply. Remove all goods from the freezer. Clean the freezer as described above. Leave the lid slightly open.
IF SOMETHING DOES NOT WORK
IF YOUR FREEZER DOES NOT FUNCTION SATISFACTORILY
Check the following before calling for service staff: If you are still unable to solve the problem, summon the
assistance of authorised service staff. Do not take any other steps. Incorrect procedure may
cause personal injury or lead to additional defects. It is quite normal for the freezer to seem warm on the
outside occasionally, owing to the heat generated by the freezing process. This heat also helps to prevent the formation of moisture on the outside of the appliance which could cause rust.
If the freezer has been switched off briefly, the compressor may not start immediately when the current is re-connected. This is quite normal.
IN THE CASE OF A POWER FAILURE OR BREAKDOWN
The hold-over period mentioned in the "Technical Specification" section of this book refers to an estimated time the freezer temperature will take to rise to an unacceptable level for keeping frozen foods.
Providing the period of power failure or breakdown does not exceed the hold-over period there will be no risk of damage to the frozen food, providing you do not open the lid during this period.
If the freezer is only half full or the lid is opened this will reduce the hold-over time.
After the breakdown period you are recommended to check the condition of food to ensure it has not started to thaw. Frozen food must NOT be re-frozen once it has thawed out. The following guidelines should assist you.
Ice cream: Once thawed should be discarded. Fruits & Vegetables: If soft should be cooked and used
up.
Breads & Cakes: Can be re-frozen without danger. Shellfish: Should be refrigerated and used
up quickly.
Cooked Dishes: ie. casseroles should be
refrigerated and used up.
Large Pieces Can be re-frozen providing there of Meat: are still ice crystals remaining
within them.
Small Joints: Should be cooked and can then
be re-frozen as cooked dishes.
Chicken: Should also be cooked and re-
frozen as a cooked dish.
