Legacy ISDN deployments were intended to deliver 144 kbps over a single pair. The ADTRAN
TM
Total Access®DSLAM Octal IDSL module provides data interfaces between the eight U-interface ISDN line circuits and the Total Access DSLAM backplane which connects to the CSM or TSI switch module.
The card occupies a single access slot in the shelf. This card may be plugged into any one of the 28 general purpose, line card slot positions of the Total Access DSLAM. The card is designed to work with the DS3 CSM, 128-port CSM, OC-3c CSM, and the DS3 TSI switch module.
The Octal IDSL module supports both FRF.5 and FRF.8 frame interworking standards. The data rate on each line interface may be 64 kbps, 128 kbps or 144 kbps. The data rate is software configurable through either the craft menus, SNMP, or TL1 management interfaces.
The U-interface pairs are accessed at the eight 64-pin Champ connectors on the backplane. Each circuit carries 144 kbps serial data over the subscriber loops, up to a maximum distance of 18,000 feet, over a 26 AWG copper pair. This service can be delivered over standard repeatered U-interface circuits.
