INSTALLING A ZX1 STATION I N A RACK
1. The sides of your Z X1 Station will be pre-t ap p ed f o r in st al li ng t h e sl id e r ail components.
3. Fasten the re ar sid e of the st ati onary rail to the ZX1 unit and fa sten al l othe r assembly sc rews in th e middl e of the component.
5. Pl ace t he met al sli de exte nsio n ove r the sliding ra il a rm component . Align the elliptical holes at the length to fi t your rack. Fasten with assembly screws and washers.
4. Faste n th e f r ont f ace bracket over the sliding rail ar m c o mpo ne nt wi th sc re ws and washers usin g a Phili ps sc rewd ri ver. Align the elliptical holes to fi t your rack.
6. Using a Philips sc re wdr i ver, tighten t he screws to clam p t he two pieces to g et he r for both the fr o nt an d re ar b r ac kets .
2. Attach t he st at i on ary rail to the sid e of the ZX1 unit using a Phili ps sc rewdr ive r and assembly s c rew s n o lo n ge r t ha n .18”. Repeat on other sid e.

NOTE: Slide extensions will be
required for rack depths greater than 26 inches. If slide extensions were not part of your order, please contact a Z Micro sales representative for additional assistance. For 24 to 26 inch depth racks, the slides can be directly attached to the rack.
7. Position the front of the as semble d

INSERTING ZX1 STATION INTO A RACK*

3. When you reach the lock but ton’s flange on th e statio nar y rail, us e your thumb to push dow n th e fl ange in order to bypass and cont inue.

REMOVING/INSTALLING MEMORY DIMM
1. Each of the Memor y DIMM sl ots is eq uipped wi th locki ng latches to secu re th e Memo ry D IMM i n place.
3. Instal l the new Me mor y DIMM by carefully al igning t he Mem ory D IMM parallel to the s lot and t hen ge ntly, but firmly inserting.
4. Carefully pus h the M emory DIMM in using your thumb s.
4. Secure the M emor y D I M M i nt o t h e slot by pulling th e lo ckin g latch es towards the Memory DIMM.
2. Use your fin gers t o push th e loc king latches away from the ex ist ing M em ory DIMM. Gently remove the Mem o ry DIMM from its slot

1. Place cover loose ly onto Z X1 statio n. When placed o n the st ati on, make sur e your side fla nge s pro per ly a lig n wit h th e corresponding slots.
3. When the top is firmly seated o nto th e station casi n g, t u rn the attachm e nt s crews at the rear of the to p c over t o se c ur e .

REMOVING THE POWER SUPPLY
1. Using a Philips screwdr iver, remove both screws fr om t h e re ar to p p late of t he Power Supply modu le
2. Insert a f ing er into th e handl e and begin to pull the mo du le f r om t he s t ati o n.
3. Gently but f irmly c ontinu e to pull the Power Supply m odule out o f the ZX1 station.
4. When the Power Sup ply modul e is fairly extr acted, lif t and suppor t the mod u le away of the Z X1 station.
OPERATIONS
NOTE: If one of the Power Supply
modules is removed, then the system will still operate with the one remaining power supply. A failed power supply will be identifi ed by an audible alarm.
INSERTING A POWER SUPPLY MODULE
1. Carefully positi on th e Power Sup ply module to the do cking bay us ing both hands for steady suppor t.
3. As you reach t he re ar fa ce o f th e Z X1 station, use your fi nger to provid e extr a leverage for in ser tin g the module.
4. Use a Philips screwd rive r to refas ten the securi ty s cr ews of t he Power S upp ly module to the Z X1 station.

REMOVING THE LOCKABLE FACE PLATE COVER
1. Using the provide d key, turn to the right to unloc k the fac e plate cover.
3. Pull the right side of the fac e plate cover away from the rig ht supp ort bracket and lift away from th e ZX1 unit.
2. Release the attach ment screw s on either side of t he fac e plate c over. You may either tw ist t he f aste nin g sc rew w it h fingers or u se a Flat hea d sc rewdr ive r.
OPERATIONS
NOTE: The Lockable Face Plate
Cover is an option available only to certain models.
INSTALLING THE LOCKABLE FACE PLATE COVER
1. The face plate cover ha s sm al l fl anges on the left si de that p er fec tly f it wit hin corresp ondi ng slot s on th e lef t sup por t bracket.
3. Align the fl anges on th e left side of the face plate cover w it h t he ir correspo nd in g slots on the left support b ra c ket.
4. When the lef t f lang es are s ecu red in
the support bracket, posi tion the right s i d e of the face fl at cover onto its corresponding support bracket.
5. When both si des are sec ured onto their respe ctive s uppo rt b racket s, tur n the key to lock the fa ce plate c over.

1. To power up the ZX1, press and hold (about 1 second) the Po we r S u p p l y Switch at the center ri ght s id e of t he u nit .
2. The unit co ntro l dis play may po ss ibly indic ate items t hat require attention. If suc h is t he c ase, p leas e refer t o the “Troubleshooting” in the Appendix.
3. The TranzPak 2 display may pos sib ly indicate hard dr ive items t hat require attention. If such is the case, pleas e r ef e r to the “Troubleshooting” in the Appendix.
POWERING UP THE ZX1 STATION
OPERATIONS
1. Slide the locking catch towards the right to allow the locking handle to sp ring open.
3. Push the loc king han dle to the l eft . Using the locking handle, Gently but fi rmly begin to pull the TranzPak2 module out as it slides off the grounding contacts
4. W hen t he TranzPak2 m odu le is f air ly
extracted, lif t and s uppor t th e module away from the ZX1.

INSERTING THE TRANZ PAK2 MODULE

The ZX1 features statu s lights t o effe cti vely mon itor th e acti viti es of the product. :
OPERATIONS
Power On LED
1. Orange = 5V standby available, system is in standby (meaning OFF) mode.
2. Green = system is ON.
3. OFF = system is not connected to an AC power source
OT (Over Temp) LED
1. OFF = System temperature is normal
2. Blinking Red Light = This is a warning that the system temperature is getting close to operational limits.
3. Solid Red Light = System is at its operational limit. User intervention is needed.
LAN LED 1 and 2
1. Blinking green = LAN port is connected and functioning normally
2. OFF = LAN port is not connected and/or disabled
HD LEDs
1. OFF = No hard drive activity or no hard drive connected
2. Blinking orange = Indicates hard drive activity
Fan LED – (LED with “Fan” text and fan symbol)
1. Green = system fans are running normally
2. Orange = one or more system fans is malfunctioning
3. RED = all system fans are malfunctioning or system fans are not installed

WARNING: Be sure to turn off the power before you perform any maintenance system.
CLEANING THE ZX1
Unplug the ZX1 from the power outlet before cleaning.
• To clean the surface of the ZX1, lightly dampen a soft, clean cloth with water or mild detergent and wipe the surface gently.

1. Remove the unit’ face plate by releasing the screw on th e left si de of the uni t. Repeat the proc e dure o n th e r ight s id e.
2. Once the un it fac e plate is re moved, you can see the a ir fi lter c ompo nent.
3. Remove the existi ng a ir fi lter stri p f ro m the unit and disc a rd..
4. Install the new fi lter to the uni t an d us e your fi nger s t o pr e ss i t fi rmly into place

TROUBLESHOOTING
If the following problems occur on your ZX1, follow the steps provided below. If these procedures do not provide recovery to the system, please contact the Z Microsystems Customer Service Department.
No Power to the System
1. Check that the power cable is properly connected to the power supply.
2. Check that power to the system is good.
3. Check that power to the power supply is engaged.
4. If neither of these is the cause, contact Z Microsystems’ Customer Service Department.
System Beeps
Note the number of beeps and/or its sequence. The motherboard user manual will have a list of beep codes and what they mean. Contact Z Microsystems’ Customer Service Department for assistance.
Audible Alarm:
Power supply is bad, replace per procedure on page 16.
