Alphapack 3 range are 3 channel fully portable dimmer units, which can be safely secured to a stand or truss with the use of a hookclamp or half coupler, connected to either of the M10 threaded mounting holes on the top and rear of the unit. Alternatively the optional mounting bracket (sold separately) allows Alphapack 3 to be mounted onto a wall or piece of scenery.
This compact and rugged unit has 3 faders for local control, or can be controlled remotely as part of a larger lighting system. The Alphapack 3 offers full DMX control input providing maximum flexibility for a great price. A unique safety system and overload protection circuit means that the Alphapack 3 provides an extremely safe and reliable solution to small dimming applications, never allowing the dimmer loads to draw more current than is available from the supply.
Please read this manual before use, especially the Warnings & Safety section.

Faders
Each of the Alphapack 3’s channels can be controlled using the three local faders on the front panel. These are always enabled, and work on a “highest-takes-precedence” basis if DMX is also present.

DMX
Alphapack 3 can be controlled using the local channel faders, or via a DMX512 signal. When both are used, the controls are mixed on a “highest-takes-precedence” basis. The Alphapack 3 uses three DMX addresses – one for each of the channels. Addresses are always a sequential block of three addresses, starting at the “DMX Start Address”.
DMX512 connectors
The input connector is via a 5 pin male XLR with loopthrough on a 5 pin female XLR.
DMX start address switches
These three switches set the DMX start channel for the pack. One switch controls the “hundreds”, another the “tens” and the other the “units”. A small screwdriver or trim tool is required to adjust the address settings.
After changing the DMX start address, the Alphapack 3 must be restarted to activate the new DMX address.
DMX OK LED
Off: No DMX data received Slow flash: DMX data errors occurring Fast flash: DMX data is being received, but is not dimmer data (start code non-zero) On: DMX dimmer data is being received OK.
DMX Termination
No termination is provided on the Alphapack 3. Termination of the DMX line can be achieved by inserting a termination plug into the loop through connector.
DMX Fail
In the event of the loss of DMX input, the outputs will fade to zero over 1 second. Please note that the channel faders will remain available.

Outputs
The Zero 88 Alphapack 3 is a three channel power controller capable of driving up to 6.3 amps of lighting control per channel.
Electrical
The total current consumption of the Alphapack 3 is 16 amps.
Load per channel 0.2A Min; 6.3A Max Max. load per channel 1.44kW @ 230V No Load consumption 6W
Each channel is protected by a 6.3amp ceramic 5mm x 20mm “F Type” fuse.
Autoprotection
A current detection circuit monitors the input current to the Alphapack 3 at all times to protect the machine from being inadvertently overloaded.
The total current limit for each machine is factory set as follows:
UK: 13 A Neutrik Powercon TRUE1: 16 A CEE 22: 10 A Swiss: 10 A French: 16 A Schuko: 16 A
Should an attempt be made to overload the Alphapack 3, the outputs of all three channels will be reduced, and the “Autoprotection activated” LED will be illuminated.
Load
The loads may be resistive or inductive and include tungsten, transformer driven low voltage and quartz halogen. Some highly inductive loads such as neon will require a ballast load of at least 100 Watts.
Fusing of Inductive Loads
All inductive loads (e.g. transformer driven lamps) must be fitted with a separate fuse of the correct value per lamp or fitting. Failure to fit the correct fuse may mean that any supply disturbances could cause damage to the lamp’s transformer. A good earth connection is essential.

Maintenance
Alphapack 3 is designed to be relatively maintenance free, however a few simple steps can prolong the life of your hardware.
No user serviceable parts inside.
Cleaning the surface
Every month or so, gently wipe down the front panel with a nonabrasive, non-corrosive surface cleaner applied with a soft cloth.
Cleaning the faders
A can of compressed air can be used to clear our dust from the fader tracks. Do NOT use an oil based lubricant (such as WD-40) on faders as this will cause irreparable damage to your Alphapack 3.
Transportation & storage
Care should be taken when transporting Alphapack 3. The cardboard box which Alphapack 3 is supplied in is intended only for one or two journeys, and should not be relied upon to keep the dimmer safe for prolonged use.
Airflow should not be impeded by covering the ventilation openings with items such as curtains, costumes, cabling etc. No naked flame sources, such as lighted candles or pyrotechnics, should be placed on or near the apparatus Alphapack 3 should not be exposed to dripping or splashing, and no objects filled with liquids, such as vases or drinks, should be placed on the apparatus.
