Your New Washing Machine
i
Your new washing machine, fitted with the Zanussi “JET SYSTEM”, meets all modern needs for effective treatment of laundry with low water, energy and detergent consumption.
Even small loads are washed “economically” because the amount of water used is regulated automatically according to the load and type of fabric.
The “Memory” buttons enable you to store the wash programmes most used, which are then easy to recall when needed.
The possibility of selecting the temperature, spin speed and all the options offered by this washing machine gives you truly “customised” washing.
The DELAY START option allows you to delay starting of the wash programme.
Fuzzy Logic technology enables the washing time in the White cotton and Coloured cotton programmes to be calculated automatically according to the weight of the laundry.
Automatic cooling of the wash water to 60°C
before draining, with the 95°C programme. This reduces thermal shock to fabrics, helping to prevent creasing.
The special wool programme with its new delicate wash system treats your woollens with extreme care.
The Handwash programme has an extremely delicate wash action suitable for garments with the wash symbol .
Important
Your machine is fitted with a balance control device, which ensures the machine is stable during the spin. If the wash load appears not to have been spun sufficiently at the end of the wash cycle, because it is not evenly distributed in the drum, the balance control device may have operated. It will therefore be necessary to redistribute the wash load manually and select a spin programme. For more detailed information see the section headed "Something Not Working".
Ecological hints
To save water and energy and help protect the environment, we recommend that you follow these hints:
Adjust the quantity of detergent according to the hardness of your water supply, the amount of laundry and the degree of soiling.
Select an “economy” programme for normally soiled laundry and a “quick” programme for lightly soiled laundry.
A programme without prewash is sufficient for normally soiled laundry.
In the interest
of the environment
Materials marked with the symbol are recyclable.
Check with your local Council or Environmental Health Office to see if there are facilities in your area for re-cycling this appliance.
When the appliance is to be scrapped, cut off the power supply cable and make the door closing device unusable to prevent young children from being trapped inside.
Help to keep your country tidy - use authorised disposal sites for your old appliance.
How do we help to protect the environment? We use recycled paper!

To store: select the required programme using the various buttons available (see section “Operating sequence”), then start the machine by pressing the START/PAUSE button. Only then can the programme be stored by pressing one of the “Memory” buttons until the corresponding pilot light comes on.
If the “Memory” button pressed does not yet have a programme stored, the pilot light flashes for two seconds.
A stored programme can be modified by pressing the required buttons before starting the machine with the START/PAUSE button.
To recall a programme: press the required “Memory” button; the pilot lights corresponding to the stored programme come on. Press the START/PAUSE button to start the machine.
Warning! A programme may have been stored during testing in the factory.
Note: It is advisable to make a note of the programme stored for each “Memory” button.
2 ON/OFF-Cancel button
This button has two functions:
- switch the machine on/off
- cancel a programme which is running Press the button to switch the machine on, press it again
to switch the machine off or to cancel a programme which is running.
3 “Fabrics” button
Press this button to select the type of wash required: White cotton, Synthetic, etc. The pilot light corresponding to the type of wash selected comes on and the washing time flashes on the display (9); times are calculated on the basis of a maximum load of 5 kg (for FL15) or 4.5 kg (for FL12) for cotton, 2 kg for delicate and synthetic and 1 kg for wool.
After about 20 minutes (the time it takes the machine to calculate the weight of the laundry) the washing time is updated (cotton programmes only).
The machine automatically selects the maximum temperature and spin speed based on the type of wash selected: the corresponding pilot lights come on.
These values can be decreased by pressing the TEMPERATURE and SPIN SPEED buttons.
The “Fabrics” button cannot be used when the FRESHEN UP programme or one of the SPECIAL PROGRAMMES are selected.

4 “TEMPERATURE” button
Press this button if you wish to set a different temperature from that suggested by the machine for the type of wash selected (see programme chart): the corresponding pilot light comes on.
The COLD position is for a wash with cold water.
5 SPIN SPEED button
Press this button to select the required spin speed, remembering that:
- for cottons (White cotton, Coloured cotton) the
maximum spin speed is 1500 rpm for FL 15 and 1200 rpm for FL 12;
- for synthetics and wool (Synthetic, Wool) the
maximum spin speed is 1000 rpm for FL 15 and 900 rpm for FL 12;
- for delicate fabrics (Delicate) the maximum spin
speed is 700 rpm.
When the RINSE HOLD option is selected, the last rinse water is not drained to prevent creasing of the fabrics: the pilot light flashes at the end of the programme to indicate that the water must be emptied out.
This can be done in three ways:
- select a spin speed and press the START/PAUSE
button
- just press the START/PAUSE button; after emptying,
the machine performs the spin cycle for the type of wash selected
- select the DRAIN programme to empty out the
water without spinning.
The RINSE HOLD option can also be selected for the wool programme: the last rinse water is drained but the machine does not spin.
The machine automatically drains after 18 hours, if a drain or spin option is not selected.
6 “OPTIONS” button
This button can be used to select the following options:
- PREW ASH: the machine performs a prewash cycle
at 40°C max. and the wash cycle is extended by about 10 minutes. The prewash cycle ends with a short spin for the White cotton, Coloured cotton and Synthetic programmes, and with emptying of the water only for the Delicate programme.
- QUICK WASH: by selecting this option the
washing time is reduced. For use when washing lightly soiled laundry. If you use this option with the wool programme you will obtain an extremely delicate wash action suitable for garments with the wash symbol .
- ECONOMY: This option is only available with the
following programmes. The temperature is reduced as shown.
Programme Temperature reduced to
White Cotton 95°C 67°C Coloured Cotton 60°C 45°C Synthetic 60°C 40°C
The corresponding temperature light will come on and the wash time will be slightly longer to compensate for the temperature reduction.
For use when washing normally soiled laundry, in order to save energy.
Important: the PREWASH, QUICK WASH and ECONOMY options cannot be selected together: one automatically disables the others.
8
7 “Special Programmes” button
Pressing this button selects the following options:
- EXTRA RINSE: can be selected with all programmes except the wool programme. The machine carries out 4 rinses instead of 3. This option is recommended for people who are sensitive to detergents and in areas where the water is very soft. This option can only be selected after having pressed the FABRICS button to select the required wash programme.
- SOAK: select this option for heavily soiled laundry. This function cannot be used with the wool programme. The machine performs a soak at 40°C (the drum rotates occasionally) and stops with the water in the drum. The water can be emptied out in 2 ways:
- empty only by pressing the START/PAUSE button;
- empty and spin selecting a SPIN SPEED and pressing the START/PAUSE button.
The machine automatically drains after 18 hours, if a drain or spin option has not been selected.
At the end of the soak, and after having emptied out the water (the three zeros on the display flash), select the required wash programme (the machine must be first switched off and then on) or call one up using the “memory” buttons, then start the machine by pressing the START/PAUSE button.
- RINSES: with this option, it is possible to rinse and spin garments which have been washed by hand, such as synthetics or delicates and types of wool which are not machine washable. The machine performs 3 delicate rinses with a high water level, followed by a final spin at 700 rpm. It is of course also possible to select a slower or a higher spin speed using the SPIN SPEED button.
Important: if you wash cotton fabrics by hand and select max. spin speed, the machine will perform 3 rinses with a low water level, a number of intermediate spins and a final spin at maximum, particularly recommended for cottons.
- SPIN: when this option is selected, the machine performs a spin at 700 rpm. Different spin speeds can be selected by pressing the SPIN SPEED button, but always take into account the type of fabric washed.
- DRAIN: this programme can be selected to empty out the water (e.g. for programmes with which the RINSE HOLD option has been selected).
8 FRESHEN UP button
This is a complete programme in its own right, that is not compatible with any of the other options, except DELAY START. For use with laundry which is lightly soiled or which needs freshening up (max. 2 kg). The machine performs a 30 minute wash cycle at 30°C, with a final spin at 650 rpm.
9 TIME TO FINISH display
This display provides the following information:
- three flashing dashes
appear immediately after pressing the ON/OFF button and indicate that the machine is ready to receive instructions for the required wash programme;
- Duration of the selected wash programme,
calculated automatically on the basis of the maximum recommended load for each type of fabric. The figures on the display flash until the machine is started with the START button.
After the programme has started, the time remaining is updated every 10 minutes, and every 5 minutes during the last 20 minutes.
About 20 minutes after the programme has started, the time remaining is updated on the basis of the actual load size being washed (cottons only).
When the programme has finished, after the door lock has released, three flashing zeros are displayed.
- Delayed start, programmed using the DELAY
START button (11). The selected delay (19 hours max.) is indicated in
the display. The countdown is updated every hour, and every 5 minutes during the last hour.
- PA USE: when the START/PAUSE is pressed while a wash programme is running, the figures in the
display, which indicate the time remaining, start to flash.
- Machine heating phase. A dot to the right of the figures in the display indicates that the machine is heating the water.
- Incorrect option selection. If an option which is not compatible with the set wash programme is selected, the message Err is displayed.
9
10 START/PAUSE button
This button has three functions: a) Start
After having selected the required wash programme, press this button to start the machine; the display stops flashing.
b) Pause To interrupt a programme which is running, press the
START/PAUSE button: the figures displayed will start to flash.
To restart the programme from the point at which it was interrupted, press the START/PAUSE button again.
c) Drain At the end of a programme which stops with water in
the drum (RINSE HOLD option), or after the soak programme, press the START/PAUSE button to empty out the water: after a soak programme, the machine will empty only; after RINSE HOLD programmes, the machine will empty and spin.
11 DELAY START button
This button allows starting of the machine to be delayed by a maximum of 19 hours.
The button must be pressed before pressing the START/PAUSE button.
The figures indicating the time delay appear in the display next to the button. After one minute, the machine starts its countdown (hourly).
During the last hour, the remaining time is displayed every 5 minutes.
The delay start function cannot be used with the SPIN and DRAIN programmes.
To alter or cancel the preset delay, press the START/PAUSE button, then press the DELAY START button until the required time is displayed or the symbol
0
h if you wish to cancel the delay. Then press the START/PAUSE button again. When the delay is cancelled, the display shows the
duration of the wash programme previously selected.
12 Operating pilot lights
The pilot lights come on individually, or in groups, according to the options selected.
The pilot lights flash for about three seconds if wash options are incorrectly selected. The message Err is displayed.
Altering a programme which is running
To alter a programme, press the START/PAUSE button. Before the machine starts the heating phase, i.e. within the first 15 minutes for cotton programmes, 10 minutes for synthetic and delicate programmes and 5 minutes for the wool programme, the following parameters can be altered:
- Fabrics
- Temperature
- ECONOMY or QUICK WASH. The PREWASH option can be cancelled, but cannot be
added, once the programme has started. The SPIN option can be modified before the final spin
and the EXTRA RINSE option can be cancelled or added before the rinse cycle starts.
To restart the wash programme, press the START/PAUSE button again.
Opening the door after the programme has started
The door can only be opened before the machine starts the heating phase (within the first 15, 10 or 5 minutes, depending on the programme selected - see paragraph above).
Set the machine to PAUSE (by pressing the START/PAUSE button).
If the door does not open, this means that the machine is already heating, or that the water level is above the bottom edge of the door.
This prevents water from spilling out when the door is opened.
The door can only be opened when the pilot light next to the handle goes out.
