For your safety, please read the following text carefully. This appliance is supplied with a moulded three pin mains plug for your
safety and convenience. A 5-ampere fuse is fitted in this plug. Should the fuse need to be replaced please ensure that the replacement fuse has a rating of 5-ampere and that it is approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362. Check for the ASTA mark Ï or the BSI mark Ì on the body of the fuse.
If the plug contains a removable fuse cover you must ensure that it is refitted when the fuse is replaced. If you lose the fuse cover the plug must not be used until a replacement cover is obtained. A replacement fuse cover can be purcha sed fro m your local deal er .

IF THE FITTED MOULDED PLUG IS UNSUITABLE FOR THE SOCKET OUTLET IN YOUR HOME THEN THE FUSE SHOULD BE REMOVED AND THE PLUG CUT OFF AND DISPOSED OF SAFELY. THERE IS A DANGER OF SEVERE ELECTRICAL SHOCK IF THE CUT OFF PLUG IS INSERTED INTO ANY 13-AMPERE SOCKET.
If a new plug is t o be fitted please observe the wiring code as stated below. If in any doubt please consult a qualified electrician.

The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: Blue: Neutral, Brown: Live. As these colours may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: The wire which is coloured Blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured Black or Blue. The wire which is coloured Brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured Brown or Red.

Remove the connector cover.
How to replace the fuse
The location of the fuse differ according to the type of AC mains plug (figures A and B). Confirm the AC mains plug fitted and follow the instructions below. Illustrations may differ from actual AC mains plug.
1. Open the fuse cover with a screwdriver.

17 Before moving this unit, press STANDBY/ON to set the unit in standby

When playing DTS encoded CDs, excessive noise will be heard from the analog stereo outputs. To avoid possible damage to the audio system, the consumer should take proper precautions when the analog stereo outputs of the player are connected to an amplification system.

DVDs that can be played
You can play discs with these symbols.
Playing DVDs and Video CDs
The producer of these discs can control how they are played so you may not always be able to control play as described in these operating instructions. Read the disc’s instructions carefully.
Video systems
This unit can play PAL and NTSC, but your television must match the
system used on the disc.
PAL discs cannot be correctly viewed on an NTSC television.This unit can convert NTSC signals to PAL 60 for viewing on a PAL
television ( page 18, Video—NTSC Disc Output).
CD-R and CD-RW discs
This unit can play CD-R and CD-RW if they are formatted as CD-DA (digital audio) or video CD and finalized§3.
DVD-R/RW and DVDrRW/rR discs
Discs recorded and finalized§3 on a DVD video recorder.

A process that allows play on compatible equipment.
To clean discs
Wipe with a damp cloth and then wipe dry.

Some discs cannot be played depending on the disc characteristics or recording conditions.

This unit can play DVD-R/RW if they are recorded with the Video Format.
Do not use irregularly shaped discs (e.g. heart-shaped), as these can damage the unit.
Region number supported by this player
Region numbers are allocated to DVD players and software according to where they are sold.
The region number of this player is “2”.The player will play DVD-Video marked with labels containing “2” or
ALL”.

Handling precautions
Do not write on the label side with a ball-point pen or other writing
instrument.
Do not use record cleaning sprays, benzine, thinner, static electricity
prevention liquids or any other solvent.
Do not attach labels or stickers to discs. (Do not use discs with exposed
adhesive from tape or left over peeled-off stickers.)
Do not use scratch-proof protectors or covers.Do not use discs printed with label printers available on the market.

read the appropriate operating instructions.
Digital connection Analogue (6CH DISCRETE) connection

Connect an amplifier with Dolby Digital and DTS decoders. You can also enjoy high-quality stereo sound with sampling frequencies of 88.2 and 96 kHz if the material isn’t copy­protected and the equipment you connect is compatible with these signals.
Change “Digital output” ( page 19).

Connect an amplifier with multi-channel audio input terminals to enjoy surround sound. This unit can decode Dolby Digital and DTS and there are no limitations on sampling frequency with this kind of connection. To obtain maximum performance of DVD-Audio multi­channel linear PCM sound, the connections are recommended.

Video connection

This unit equips three types of video jacks as follows:

This jack transmits conventional composite video signal. Connect this jack to your AV amplifier so that you can switch the both audio and video inputs at once.

This jack transmits color and luminance separately and achieves high quality color reproduction. Connect this jack to your television using a commercially available S­Video cable. If your AV amplifier is equipped with S VIDEO input and output jacks, connect to the AV amplifier so that you can switch both audio and video inputs at once.

This SCART jack can output RGB component signals and provides the best quality picture. Connect this jack to your television. Change “Video—AV Output” ( page 18).

Mishandling of batteries can cause electrolyte leakage which can damage items the fluid contacts and may cause a fire.
Remove if the remote control is not going to be used for a long period of time. Store in a cool, dark place.
Use
Aim at the sensor (➡➡➡ page 5, Control reference guide), avoiding obstacles, at a maximum range of 7 m directly in front of the unit.
[3] Press [3, 4, 2, 1] to select the menu language
and press [ENTER].
[4] Press [3, 4] to select “Yes” to continue and
press [ENTER].
[5] Press [3, 4, 2, 1] to select the item and press
[ENTER].

The QUICK SETUP screen appears when you press [SET UP] the first time after purchase and assists you to make necessary settings. You can access this screen again later if you need to ( page 18, Others— QUICK SETUP).
Preparation
Turn on the other equipment (amplifier, television, etc.) and select the audio/video input to suit the connections to this player.

screen.

TV Aspect
Select “4:3” (regular) or “16:9” (widescreen) to suit your television. If you have a regular 4:3 television, you can also select how video on some discs is shown ( page 18, Video—TV Aspect).
4:3 Pan&Scan (Factory preset) Widescreen software is expanded to fill the screen of a 4:3 aspect television (unless prohibited by the producer of the disc).
4:3 Letterbox
Widescreen software is shown in the letterbox style on a 4:3 aspect television.
