High Quality Sound
Pure Direct Switch
When this switch is engaged, the signal bypasses the tone, loudness, balance controls, and other circuit, being fed directly to the discrete power amplifier. It travels in a straight line from the volume control, through the high-gain short, direct path for maximum signal purity.
Super Audio CD and DVD-Audio Ready with Extended Frequency Response
Rather than the usual 20Hz–20kHz frequency response, Yamaha has given the RX-397 the ability to handle frequencies from 10Hz to100kHz (1dB). Although the ear cannot hear the higher frequencies, it has been proven that these harmonics can affect sound reproduction quality. Super Audio CD, DVD-Audio and other new formats will be able to output sound over this range, so the RX-397 is fully compatible with products using thes e formats.
Linear Damping
Level variations due to high amp impedance tend to reduce an amplifier’s damping factor, and frequency variations cause it to fluctuate. This circuit cancels the effect of these variations, maintaining a high, stable damping factor, for superior articulation of all sounds and better frequency response.
High Dynamic Power, LowImpedance Drive Capability
The RX-397B is capable of delivering large amounts of reserve power for accurate reproduction of high energy peaks. This emphasizes the music’s dynamic qualities and provides a sharper sound image.
Discrete Amplifier Configuration
The CDX-397 ‘s CD buffer amplifier, volume control amplifier and power amplifier are all constructed from carefully selected discrete parts. This configuration provides superior signal quality.
Intelligent Digital Servo System
Conventional tracking servo circuitry cannot completely overcome errors caused by disc defects, war page, dust and so on. This system uses a microcomputer to monitor the signal, adjusting pickup tracking and focus, as well as spindle motor speed, to compensate for any problems.
Low-Impedance Power Supply
Because every signal part affects sound quality, Yamaha uses nothing but the best. The special Low-Impedance Power Supply, in the CDX-397B uses extra thick wires to ensure that power is absolutely stable even under low impedance conditions.
Display Dimmer
The CDX-397’s front display dimmer function lets you dim the display when
you darken the room to suit your mood while listening to music. The brightness of the display can be set to Normal, Slightly Dim and Dim. Dimming the display also reduces any chance of noise interference from the LCD for highest audio quality.
Aluminium Front Panel
An aluminium front panel is used to effectively shield sensitive low-level circuitry from external noise and electronic radiation generated by dimmer switches, HVAC, fluorescent lighting and video displays (CRT, LCD, Plasma).
Convenient Operation
CD-R/RW Playback
The CDX-397B CD players can handle CDR and CD-RW discs with ordinary songs. (Note that some discs may not play.)
Wealth of Playback Functions
In addition to ordinary play, there are a variety of ways you can enjoy the musical selections on your CDs. Random Play plays all the songs in a random order. If you want to hear them in a certain order, you can use the 40-Track Program Play function. There are also several repeat modes: Single Track, Entire Disc, Random Play, Programme Play and A-B (for repeating all songs between two points on the disc).
Auto Space Insert
Lets you add a short pause at the touch of a button on the remote control while recording to ensure that there is sufficient space between selections.
3-Mode CD Text Display
Get information about the CD currently playing right on the CD player’s display. The 3-mode CD Text display shows the CD’s title, the artist’s name and the title of the track.
Peak Search
Gives you better sounding recording by searching the disc for the loudness part and playing it for a few seconds so you can set the proper recording level.

CD-Tape Synchronised Record Start
You’ll have smooth recording starts each time, because Synchronised Record Start puts the deck into the recording mode a few seconds before starting CD play.
RoHS Compliant
This environmentally friendly unit fully complies with the EU’s RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) standards.
Speaker Design
Speaker Cabinet Has New Design with Innovative Cross-Bracing
The cabinet is built with internal crossbracing having a unique wedge structure. R-beveling reduces diffraction effects. This type of cross braced structure is used in top class speakers and Yamaha engineers are able to make the most of its advantages. It produces a tighter sound and the increased strength cuts down unwanted vibration.
Simply, Cosmetic Design Concept
This system provides Hi-Fi component-like design that same dedication to sound and design excellence is behind the creation of the top-class component.
