Introduction

Thank you for purchasing a Whynter SNO portable air conditioner. We would like you to
enjoy the many benefits this unit offers, so please read this manual carefully and take full
advantage of the many advanced features that you SNO portable air conditioner offers
you. After reading this manual, please keep it in a safe place for future reference.

This unit is designed for improving living and working comfort by providing cooling,
dehumidifying, fan-only and automatic operation mode with a very simple installation
required. With its quiet operation and sleek appearance, you will enjoy its convenience
and comfort.

Energy Saving Tips:

• Please use the unit in the recommended room size (refer to SPECIFICATIONS).

• Do not locate the air conditioner where furniture or other objects can obstruct the

air flow.

• Keep blinds/curtains closed during the sunniest part of the day.

• Close the fireplace damper and floor or wall grills so that cool air does not escape

through the chimney or ductwork.

• Keep the filters clean.

• Avoid opening doors frequently.

• To provide cooling to a room, this portable air conditioner must always be used

with its exhaust hose vented to the outside.
NOTE: It is recommended to turn on the air conditioner when the room temperature is
around 75 degree Fahrenheit. Do not wait until the room is excessively hot to turn on the
unit.

Safety Precautions

1. Do not insert anything, co ver or obstruct the inlet and outlet grilles. (Fig. A)

2. Make sure all children are properly supervised around this portable air
conditioner. (Fig. B)

3. Do not use an excessively wet cloth, industrial solvents, oil-based products
to clean this portable air conditioner. (Fig. C)

4. The power cable (Fig. D) must not:

-Come into contact with liquid of any kind; danger of electric shock and/or
fire;

-be squeezed and/or come into contact with sharp surface;

-be used to drag the unit;

-be used if damaged;

-be handled with damp or wet hands;

-be left in a tangled coil when the unit is working;

-be placed near a source of heat; always unroll completely to avoid the
possibility of overheating.
If the power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced exclusively by an
authorized service agent.

5. Make sure this unit is connected to a correctly grounded power supply outlet.
Do not use an extension cord. The power cord is UL listed. It has a bulit-in
L.C.D.I (Leakage, Current, Detection, Interruption) circuit breaker for added
safety.

6. Do not sit or place objects on the unit.

7. Do not use this unit inside closets, cabinets and/or cramped spaces
between furniture;

8. Do not repair, disassemble and/or modify the unit by yourself.

9. Do not operate this unit without the filter.

10. Do not turn this unit on and off by using the plugging and unplug. Always
use the ON/O F F s wi t ch.

11. Do you use harsh chemical to clean the filter. Dry thoroughly before
inserting the filter into the unit.

12. To avoid the risk of shock, the product should never be used in bathrooms,
shower rooms, or in any other steamy or wet areas.

13. Transport the portable air conditioner in an upright position only. If the unit
is tipped over, make sure it stands upright for at least 3 hours prior to turning it
on.

14. Always place the unit on a level surface.

15. In the event of fire, use carbon dioxide(CO2) extinguishers. Do not use
water or powder extinguishers.

16. In order to cool, the hot air from the exhaust port in the back of the porta ble
air conditioner must be exhaust to the outside of the room.

17. Do not bend or crush the exhaust hose while in use.

18. Do not add extra length to the exhaust hose for more than 10’ long. This
will reduce the cooling efficiency of the port ab le air condit io ner.

19. This unit is designed to operate in an ambient temperature of 64 – 100

Fahrenheit.

20. This unit is designed for residential use.

21. Always allow air flow around the portable air conditioner for at least 20’.

22. Always t urn off the portable air conditioner when not in use.

23. Always turn off the po rtable air conditioner when cleaning, changing filter,
and transporting.

24. If the electrical socket is different from the plug, have a licensed
professional electrician replace the socket with a suitable one. Do not use
adapter plugs, multiple sockets or extension cord for this unit.

25. At the end of each season, all water must be drained from the unit and filter
must be cleaned before storage.

Installation

When you use the unit as an air conditioner or a dehumidifier, the hot air must
be exhausted out of the room to complete the air exchange of the condenser.
When the unit is operating in fan-only mode, no exhaust is required.

If you use this portable air conditioner in cooling mode without venting the
exhaust hose to the outside of the room that you are cooling, the temperature
in the room will not be cooled because the hot air is still coming out from the
rear of the unit even when the front of the unit is blowing cool air.

Exhaust hose Installation

The exhaust hose must be installed onto the unit.

1. Pull out about 6” of one end of the exhaust hose.

2. Screw the exhaust connector on the exhaust hose in a clockwise motion.

3. Snap the exhaust connector in place in the back of the unit.

1. Window Installation

a) Make sure the exhaust hose is properly installed onto the

portable air conditioner.
b) Open window or sliding door for approximately 5” (130 mm)
c) Adjust the length of the window kit to the same length and width

of the opening of the window or the sliding door. Cut the window

piece if necessary to fit the length of your window or sliding door.
d) Place the window kit on your window or sliding door, with the

exhaust hole as near to the portable air conditioner as possible.
e) Close the window or sliding door, on the window kit. For long

term installation, you may screw the window kit into your window

frame.
f) Adjust the length of the exhaust hose and amount the window kit

adaptor to the window kit.

NOTE: When using the window kit on a window or sliding door it will
cause the window or sliding door not to be properly closed and locked.
Additional security measurements maybe needed.

2. Wall Installation

a) Make sure the exhaust hose is properly installed onto the portable

air conditioner.
b) Make a hole of 5 1/8” diameter in the wall.
c) Insert as much as exhaust hose as needed through the hole.
NOTE: Make sure to have a qualified professional to make the hole to
avoid the possibility of injury or damage to the structure. Make sure that
the hole is covered when it is not used by the portable air conditioner.

Turns the unit on a nd off.

Selects the operation mode: Fan-Only Mode, Dehumidifyin g Mode, and
Cooling Mode.

FAN

Selects fan speed: High, Medium or Low speed.

: Temperature or Time Button

These two buttons are used to set to your desired temperature or adjust the
time setting when using the timer function.
NOTE: The temperature can be displayed in Celsius or Fahrenheit. To change
from one scale to another, press and hold the On/Off button for 20 seconds.

TIMER

:Timer Button
Used to set or cancel timer. When the unit is off, the “On T imer” function can be
used to set the time to turn the unit on. When the unit is on, the “Off Timer”

function can be used to set the time to turn the unit off.

TIME SETTING
How to set the Off Timer:

When the unit is on, press this Timer button, “3” will flash in the display window
and timer indicator will be on. Press the “
number is flashing to select the time delay. You may set the timer to turn off the
unit in between 1 hour to 24 hours. Ten seconds after you press the
Temperature / Timer buttons, the timer display will stop flashing. Then the time
in the timer display will decrease in 1 hour increments. When the timer display
reaches “0” , the unit will turn off.

How to set the On Timer:

When the unit is off and plugged in, press this Timer button, “ 3 “ will flash in
the display window and timer indicator will be on. Press the “
button while the number is flashing to select the time delay. You may set the
timer to turn off the unit in between 1 hour to 24 hours. The unit will start up
using the last setting it was on when it was turned off. Then the time in the

timer display will decrease in 1 hour increments. When the timer display
reaches “0” , the unit will turn on.

How to change the time after it has been set:

When the timer is set, press the timer button. The time in the timer display will
begin to blink. Press the timer button again and the time will disappear from the
Timer Display and an ‘F’ will be displayed. This indicates that the timer has
been cancelled.

The six buttons on the remote controller are same as the six buttons on the
control panel of the unit.
This remote control uses a lithium battery (Model:CR2025). Install the
batteries before using the remote control.

Leakage Current Detection and Interruption Plug Testing

This unit is provided with a Leakage Current Detection and Interruption
(L.C.D.I.) built into the plug of the power supply cord. This device provides
protection to reduce risk of fire due to arcing faults in the power supply cord.
Before use, follow the Plug Testing Instructions to ensure that the (LCDI)
circuit is functioning properly:

1. Press Test button. Unit should trip.

2. Press Reset button firmly.

DO NOT USE THE UNIT IF ABOVE TEST FAILS

Do not use the TEST and RESET buttons as on/off switch. They should be
only used for testing purpose.

COOLING

1) Plug the Power Cord to the power outlet.

2) Turn on the unit by pressing the ON/OFF Button.

3) Press Mode Button until the icon next to “COOL” turns on.

4) Set the thermostat using the Temperature / Timer buttons. The thermostat
is adjustable between 64

o

F-90oF.

5) Select the fan speed by pressing the Fan S peed Selection Button.
The cooling mode cools and dehumidifies the air. If the ambient temperature
drops below the set temperature, the compressor turns off and the unit
switches to the Fan only mode. When the temperature rises above the set
temperature, the compressor turns on again.

DEHUMIDIFYING

1) Plug the Power Cord to the power outlet.

2) Turn on the unit by pressing the ON/OFF Button.

3) Press Mode Button until the icon next to “DRY” turns on.
During the dehumidifying mode, the unit will condense water out of the air and
exhaust it through the exhaust hose. The ambient temperature in the room
may drop by a few degrees.
The fan always run on low speed while in the dehumidifying mode. If you do
not use the exhaust hose, you will need to manually drain the water from the
unit. The dehumidifying mode will not work in temperatures below 64

o

F.

FAN ONLY

1) Plug the Power Cord to the power outlet.

2) Turn on the unit by pressing the ON/OFF Button .

3) Press Mode Button until the icon next to “FAN” turns on.

4) Select the fan speed by pressing the Fan S peed Selection Button.
No temperature setting is needed for fan-only mode. Also, fan-only mode does
not require that the exhaust hose be attached.

WATER DRAINAGE

All portable air conditioners dehumidify the air as they cool. This W hynter SNO
portable air conditioner is designed to evaporate and exhaust the condensed
water. When using the Cooling or Dehumidifying modes under extremely
humid conditioners, the internal water tray may be filled completely. If this
happens, the Water Level indicator on the control panel will light and the
compressor will shut off. The unit will continue to operate and exhaust water
until the water level drops. Then the compressor will c ome back on and the unit
will begin cooling. If you do not want to wait for the unit to exhaust the water
out, you can manually drain the water from the unit.

If continuous drainage option is not used, please insert the second rubber
stopper to the upper drain port.

Manual Drainage:

Turn the unit off., unscrew the drain cap and/or the rubber stopper from the
upper drain port. Then connect the drain hose to the upper drain port and put
the other end of the drain hose in a container. Turn the unit back on and the
internal drain pump will pump the water out. When the flow of the water stops,
you can turn off the unit. Remove the drain hose and screw the drain cap
and/or the rubber stopper on. Turn the unit on and it will begin cooling and
dehumidifying again.
Note: If no water comes out from the upper drain port, drain the water from the
lower drain port.

If the provided water hose is not long enough, you can drain by using a garden hose. The
diameter of the outer port is designed to fit the screw nut of a regular garden hose.

Maintenance

Make sure the unit is turned off and unplugged before

performing any maintenance.
Do not immerse the unit in water or other liquids.
Do not pour liquids into the unit.
Some parts of the unit may have shape edges, be careful when

handling those parts.

FILTER

This portable air conditioner comes with a washable filter that filters dust or
other impurities in the air. This filter should be cleaned about once every two
weeks or as needed. If it becomes clogged with dust, the airflow volume wil l
reduce and the cooling efficiency will be lower.

1. Remove filter from the filter compartment in front of the unit.

2. Wash the air filter by immersing it into warm water (not above104 F) and
gently scrubbing it with a gentle soap.

3. Rinse the filter and dry it thoroughly before putting it back into the unit.
If the filter is torn or unusable, order a new filter by calling our service

department.

EXTERIOR

Clean the plastic parts of the unit with a slightly damp cloth.
Clean the stainless steel parts of the unit with stainless steel cleaner.
Never use strong chemicals, oil-based products, detergents to clean the unit.

1. On a warm day, turn on the unit at Fan-Only mode for a couple hours to dry
all condensation inside the unit.

2. Turn off and unplug the unit.

3. Empty the residual condensate water by unplugg i n g th e lower drain cap.
( See above figure)

4. Detach the exhaust hose and collapse it to its smallest size.

5. Take out the filter. Clean and dry it completely before fitting back into the
unit.

6. Cover the unit to protect it from dust. It is recommended to store the unit in
its original box and packaging.

7. The unit should be stored in a cool dry place. Do not stack heavy objects on
the top of the unit.

ONE YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY &

FIVE YEAR WARRANTY ON COMPRESSOR

This WHYNTER SNO portable air conditioner is warranted, to the original owner
within the 48 continental states, for one year from the date of purchase against
defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. Should your SNO
portable air conditioner prove defective within one year from the date of purchase,
return the defective part or unit, freight prepaid (within two months of purchase; after
two months to one year, customer will be responsible for freight cost to Whynter’s
service department), along with an explanation to Whynter’s service department.
Please ship the SNO portable air conditioner in its original packaging material to avoid
damage in transit. Please retain original box and packaging material.
warranty, Whynter will repair or replace any parts found defective. This warranty is not
transferable. After the expiration of the warranty, the cost of labor and parts will be the
responsibility of the original owner of the unit.

THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER:

- Acts of God, such as fire, flood, hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes.

- Damage, accidental or other wise, to the portable air conditioner while in the
possession of a consumer not caused by a defect in material or workmanship;

- Damage caused by consumer misuse, tampering, or failure to follow the care and
special handling provisions in the instructions.

- Damage to the finish of the housing, case, or other appearance parts caused by
wear.
