• Disconnect the tool from the power source by removing the plug from the outlet prior to making adjustments, fitting the disc or accessories. This precaution must be taken to prevent the tool from being accidentally switched “ON” while adjustment or fitting is carried out.
• Always ensure that the work is securely clamped. The work must not be held in the hand or supported on the knees.
• Wear eye protection and, where appropriate, respiratory protection, when using the tool. Fastmoving particles from the work can cause eye injury.
• Don’t over-reach, keep proper footing and balance at all times.
• Maintenance should only be carried out by an authorised service agent using original parts. If the supply cord is damaged it should only be replaced by an authorised service agent.
• When using an extension cord, ensure that a 10A rated cord is used otherwise damage to the tool may occur. Ensure that the cord is fully unreeled before use. If used outdoors a heavy duty type must be used. Have a registered electrician replace or repair any damaged or worn cord immediately.
• The supply cord of the tool and any extension cord used should be checked frequently for damage.
• Check damaged parts - before further use of the tool, any guard or other part that is damaged should be carefully checked to ensure that it will operate properly and perform its intended function. Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other conditions which may affect or restrict the tool’s operation. A guard or other part that that is damaged should be repaired or replaced by an authorised service agent. Have defective switches replaced immediately.

• Keep the blade guard in place and maintained in proper working order.
• Keep hands away from cutting or grinding edges while the tool is being operated.
• Keep the work area clean.
• Don’t force the tool, it will do a better job and more safely when used at a rate for which it is designed.
• Remove the wrench before use. Form the habit of checking to see that the wrench is removed after changing the disc before turning the tool on.
• This is not a toy. Do not let children use this grinder. Store out of reach of children when not in use.
GENERAL USE
The 4in. (100mm) angle grinder is designed to grind all types of material and has been designed for DIY (Do It Y
ourself) and hobbyist purposes. Select the appropriate disc depending on the type of material you are grinding or cutting. Please discuss replacement discs with your retailer
.
When grinding do not force the grinder as no more force than the weight of the grinder itself should be required. If the tool should slow significantly lift it away from the surface to allow it to regain speed. Continuous use at lower speeds will result in permanent damage to your tool.

W
ARNING! MAKE SURE THAT A GRINDING OR CUTTING DISC IS MOUNTED WITH THE LABEL ON T

IF Y
OU ARE FITTING ANY OTHER KIND OF ATTACHMENT, REFER TO ATTACHMENT FITMENT INSTRUCTIONS. Northern Tool + Equipment WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE OR INJURY CAUSED DUE TO THE INCORRECT FITMENT OF GRINDING OR CUTTING DISCS OR ANY OTHER KIND OF ATTACHMENT. INCORRECT ATTACHMENTS CAN CAUSE THE MOTOR TO BURN OUT, GENERALLY DAMAGE THE TOOL OR CAUSE INJURY.
Attaching and removing the grinding disc provided:
• Inspect the disc before fitting and during use to ensure
it is not deformed or cracked.
• Ensure that the guard is fitted and at an angle which
ensures it is between you and the grinding disc. The guard is there to protect you from dislodging objects at the work piece and from accidental contact with the disc, of your hand, fingers or other parts of yourself.
• Do not fit or use a grinding disc for cutting
applications – For cutting, use a cutting disc and ask your hardware retailer for advice regarding the type of material you wish to cut. Grinding discs are used for grinding metal only.
• The grinding disc provided is not solid. It is made from
grit which is bonded together with reinforcement and adhesives. It is always possible that a part of the disc can dislodge and fly away from the tool at high speed. This is why you must wear the appropriate safety equipment (glasses, gloves and protective clothing) described herein and follow all safety instructions also described herein.
• Do not use any kind of attachment (discs or otherwise)
that has a diameter of greater than 4in. (100mm).
• Remove the outside retaining flange by hand if loose.
If tight, depress the spindle lock button at the top of the gear box housing, rotate the spindle to locate the lock position. Once the spindle is locked and cannot be rotated, use the wrench supplied to loosen the retaining flange.
• Remove the grinding disc from its envelope.
• Holding the angle grinder with the spindle facing
upwards, ensure the non threaded flange is on the spindle and located correctly. The two machined flat sections on one side of the non threaded flange must face the angle grinder and locate in the appropriate position on the spindle.
Insert the grinding disc onto the angle grinder spindle with the disc label facing the angle grinder. The hole in the disc should be located onto the spindle. Ensure that the hole in the disc locates and fits firmly into the ring section of the non threaded flange.
• Screw the threaded flange onto the spindle with the protruding ring section facing the angle grinder
. This ring
section must locate with the hole in the grinding disc.
• Tighten the threaded flange by locking the spindle and tighten with the spanner provided.
• Removal of the disc is conducted in reverse order to the above.
• Regularly check that the disc retaining flange has not loosened during use.
Note:
• When fitting a cutting disc, the ring section on outer flanges should face away from the disc.
• When fitting the wire wheel, the ring section on the outer flange should face into the wheel.
Fitting of Sanding Accessory:
• Thread backing wheel onto grinder first.
• Select the grit of paper that you wish to use.
• Place grit on wheel and then thread the paper retaining nut on and tighten using spanner and spindle lock.

• Use extra care when working into a corner because a sudden, sharp movement of the grinder may be experienced when the wheel contacts a secondary surface or a surface edge.
• Don’t expose the tool to rain or snow. Don’t use the tool in damp locations or in an environment with explosive or corrosive gas.
• K
eep your work area well lit.
Make sure you are well balanced when using the tool and you have secure footing. Don’t use the tool when you are tired.
• Keep long hair away from the grinder.

• Make sure the disc is not contacting the workpiece before the switch is turned on.
• Keep the guard in place. Do not use if guard is missing or damaged.
• Use only discs having a maximum operating speed at least as high as “No Load Speed” marked on the nameplate.
• Check the disc carefully for cracks or damage before operation. Replace cracked or damaged discs
immediately.
• Be careful not to damage the spindle or either of the disc flanges. Damage to these parts could result in disc breakage.
• Hold the tool firmly with two hands at all times.
• Before using the tool on an actual workpiece, let it run for a while. W
atch for vibration or wobbling that could indicate poor installation of the disc or a poorly balanced disc.
• Use only discs designed for each specified function and purpose. Do not use cutting discs for grinding or metal wheels on masonry.
• Watch out for flying sparks. Hold the tool at an angle of approximately 15º-30º to the workpiece surface.
• It should never be necessary to force the tool. If rotational speed drops abnormally the pressure should be released immediately. Little more than the weight of the tool should be applied. Forcing and excessive pressure can cause dangerous disc breakage or damage to the tool.
• Do not use grinder for extended periods of time. Vibration caused by operating this tool may cause damage to fingers, hands and arms.
1. When not in use the grinder should be stored in a dry, frost free location not within the reach of children.
2. Keep ventilation slots of the grinder clean at all times and prevent any foreign matter from entering.
