FUEL SAFETY

CUTTING SAFETY
WARNING:
each use. Remove objects (rocks, broken
glass, nails, wire, etc.) which can be thrown
by or become entangled in line. Hard objects
can damage trimmer head and be thrown
causing serious injury.
Use only for trimming, mowing, and

sweeping. Do not use for edging, pruning,
or hedge trimming.
Keep firm footing and balance. Do not

overreach.
Keep all parts of your body away from

spinning line and muffler. Keep engine
below waist level. A hot muffler can cause
serious burns.
Cutting with the line on left side of the shield

will throw debris away from the operator.
Use only in daylight or good artificial light.

Inspect the area before
TRANSPORTING AND STORAGE
Allow the engine to cool; secure unit before
S
storing or transporting in vehicle.
Empty the fuel tank before storing or
S
transporting the unit. Use up fuel left in the
carburetor by starting the engine and letting
it run until it s tops.
Store unit and fuel in an area where fuel
S
vapors cannot reach sparks or open flames
from water heaters, electric motors or
switches, furnaces, etc.
Store unit so line limiter blade cannot
S
accidentally cause injury. Unit can be hung
by the tube.
Store the unit out of the reach of children.
S

SPECIAL NOTICE:

law that many internal combustion engines be

operate in a locale where such regulations

maintaining the operating condition of these
parts. Failure to do so is a violation of the law.
For normal homeowner use, the muffler and
spark arresting screen will not require any
service.After 50 hours of use, we
recommend that your muffler be serviced or
replaced by your Authorized Service Dealer.

ADJUST THE HANDLE
Loosen wing nut on handle.

Rotate handle to upright position and

tighten in a comfortable position between
the trigger and the safety label on the tube.
Tighten handle securely.
ATTACH THE SHIELD
WARNING:
properly installed. The shield provides partial
protection from the risk of thrown objects to
the operator and others and is equipped with
a line limiter blade which cuts excess line.
The line limiter blade (on underside of shield)
is sharp and can cut you.
Assemble parts as shown; Tighten wing

nut securely.

FUEL YOUR UNIT
This engine is certified to operate on
unleaded gasoline. Gasoline must be mixed
with a good quality 2--cycle air--cooled engine
oil designed to be mixed at a ratio of 40:1.
Poulan/WeedEaterbrandoilis
recommended. (A 40:1 ratio is obtained by
mixing 3.2 ounces of oil with 1 gallon of
unleaded gasoline). When mixing fuel follow
the instructions printed on the container.
Always read and follow the safety rules under
FUEL SAFETY.
If engine does not start in 5 pulls, follow
S
instructions in STARTING A COLD
ENGINE.

HOW TO STOP YOUR UNIT
To stop the engine, push and release the
engine STOP switch. The switch will
automatically return to the ON position. Wait
5 seconds before attempting to restart unit to
allow switch to reset.

ADVANCING THE CUTTING LINE
Advance line by tapping the bottom of the
cutting head lightly on the ground while
engine is running at full speed. A metal blade
attached to the shield will cut the line to the
proper length.

Remove spool by firmly pulling on tap

Clean entire surface of hub and spool.

Replace with a pre-wound spool, or cut two

lengths of
diameter Weed Eaterrbrand line. Never
use wire, rope, string, etc., which can break
off and become a dangerous missile.
Insert ends of the line about 1/2 inch (1 cm)

into the small holes on the inside of the

hub as shown in the illust ration.
Align the notches with the line exit holes.

Pull the lines extending outside of the hub to

CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTS
Your carburetor is equipped with limiter caps.
Adjusting the carburetor is a complicated
task. We recommend that you take your unit
to an Authorized Service Dealer. Damage will
occur if you turn the needles beyond the
limiter stops.
IGNITION TIMING
The ignition timing is fixed, non--adjustable.
SPARK PLUG
Replace the spark plug yearly using a
Champion RCJ --8Y plug. Spark plug gap is
0.025 inches.

engines must be designed, built, and
equipped to meet the stringent anti--smog
standards. POULAN/WEED EATER must
warrant the emission control system on your
lawn and garden equipment engine for the
periods of time listed below provided there
has been no abuse, neglect, or improper
maintenance of your lawn and garden
equipment engine. Your emission control
system includes parts such as the carburetor
and the ignition system. Where a warrantable
condition exits, POULAN/WEED EATER will
repair your lawn and garden equipment
engine at no cost to you. Expenses covered
under warranty include diagnosis, parts and

labor.
COVERAGE:

defect in the materials or workmanship of the
