FUEL SAFETY
S Mix and pour fuel outdoors. S Keep away from sparks or flames. S Use a container approved for fuel. S Donotsmokeor allowsmokingnearfuelor
the unit.
S Wipe up all fuel spills . S Moveatleast10feet(3meters)away from
fueling site before starting engine.
S Stop engine and allow to cool before re-
moving fuel cap.
CUTTING SAFETY
S Useonly fortrimming,mowing, edgingand
sweeping. Donotuseforpruningorhedge trimming.
S Inspecttheareabeforeeachuse.Remove
objects (rocks, brokenglass, nails,wire, etc.) whichcanbethrownbylineorbecome entangled.Hardobjects can damagetrim­merheadandbethrowncausingseriousin­jury.
S Keepfirmfootingandbalance.Donotover-
reach.
S Keepallparts ofyourbodyawayfromspin-
ning line and muffler. Keep engine below waistlevel.Ahotmufflercancauseserious burns.
S Cuttingwiththelineonleftsideoftheshield
will throw debris away from theoperator.
TRANSPORTING AND STOR­AGE
S Allowtheenginetocool;secureunitbefore
storing or transporting in vehicle.

S Empty thefueltankbeforestoringortrans-
portingtheunit. Useupfuelleftinthecar­buretorbystartingtheengineandlettingit run until it stops.
S Storeunitandfuelinanareawherefuelva-
porscannotreachsparksoropenflames from water heaters, electric motors or switches, furnaces, etc.
S Storeunitsolinelimiter cannotaccidentally
causeinjury.Unitcanbehungbythetube.
S Store the unit out of thereach ofchildren

NOTE: Adjustment knob must be as-
sembledonthe sideof theunit oppositethe operator’s position. S Pivot handle to a comfortable position.
Tighten handle securely.
A TTACHING THE SHIELD W ARNING: The shield helps to protect
theoperator andothersfromthrownobjects, andis equipped witha linelimiter bladewhich cuts excessline.Thisblade(on undersideof shield) is sharp and can cut you.
S Remove wing nut from shield. S Insert bracket into slot as shown. S Pivotshielduntilboltpasses throughhole
in bracket.
S Securely tighten wing nut onto bolt.

FUEL YOUR UNIT
This engine is certified to operate on un­leaded gasoline. Gasoline must be mixed withagoodquality 2-cycle air-cooledengine oil designed to be mixed at a ratio of 40:1. Poulan/Weed Eater brand oil is recom­mended.(A 40:1ratio isobtained bymixing
3.2 ounces of oil with 1 gallon of unleaded gasoline). When mixing fuel follow the instructions printedonthe container.Always readandfollowthesafety rules underFUEL SAFETY .
ASSEMBLY
W ARNING:Makesureunitisproperly as-
sembled and all fasteners are secure.
A TTACHING THE HANDLE

S Assemble handle to the unit as shown;
makesurebottomofhandleis seatedinthe groove in the trigger housing.
STARTING
For occasional use only.
Starting Position
HOW TO STOP YOUR UNIT
PushandholdenginestopswitchintheSTOP or OFFpositionuntilthe unithas fullystopped.
W ARNING: The trimmer head will turn
while starting the engine. A hot muffler can cause serious burns.
