Important Information about LPGas & Gas Connections
What Is LP Gas?
Liquefied petroleum gas, also called LP, LP gas, liquid propane, or simply propane or butane, is the flammable, petroleum-based product used to fuel your grill. It is a gas at moderate temperatures and pressure when it is not contained. But at moderate pressure inside a container, such as a tank, LP is a liquid. As pressure is released from the tank, the liquid readily vaporizes and becomes gas.
Safe Handling Tips For LP Tanks
• A dented or rusty liquid propane tank may be hazardous and should be checked by your liquid propane supplier. Donot use a liquid propane tank with a damaged valve.
• Although your liquid propane tank may appear to be empty, gas may still be present, and the tank should be transported and stored accordingly.
• The LP tank must be installed, transported, and stored in an upright, secure position. LP tanks should not be dropped or handled roughly.
• Never store or transport the LP tank where temperatures can reach 125° F (51.7° C) (the tank will become too hot to hold by hand).
• Place dust cap on cylinder valve outlet whenever the cylinder is not in use. Only install the type of dust cap on the cylinder valve outlet that is provided with the cylinder valve. Other types of caps or plugs may result in leakage of propane.
LP Tank Requirements
• The tank must be approximately 18¼inches (46.35 cm) high and 12¼ inches (31.1 cm) in diameter with a marked 20 pound (9.07 kg) LP capacity or 47.6 pound (21.6 kg) water capacity as stated by the manufacturer. Other tanks may be acceptable provided they are compatible with the grill retention means (tank scale).
• The tank used must be constructed and marked in accordance with the Specifications for LP gas Cylinders of the U.S. Department of Transportation (D.O.T.); or the Canadian Standard for Cylinders, Spheres and Tubes for Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Commission, CAN/ CSA-B339, as applicable.
• Tanks must be provided with a listed OPD (Overfilling Prevention Device) and a Type 1 (CGA 791) tank connection. The tank connection must be compatible with the grill connection.
• The tank must include a collar to protect the tank valve.
• Tanks must have a D.O.T. certification (A), and a testing date (B) that is within five years of current use.
LP Tank Installation
Installation Location
The tank is hung onto the tank hook which is located inside the cabinet. The shape of the collar assembly (the metal protective ring around the tank valve) determines one of two directions in which the tank will correctly hang on the tank hook (A).
Inspect the Tank
1) Confirm that the tank valve is fully clos ed. Close by turning valve clockwise.
2) In spect the tank valve, including th e internal rubber seal for damage or debris (B). If damaged, retur n tank to local r etailer.
3) Confirm that the tank valve is th e prope r mating t ype for the re gulator (C).
Install The Tank
Check that all bur ner control knobs are in the o positi on. Che ck by pushing in and turning knobs clockwise.
For models with a tank scale
1) Locate the metal hose rete ntion clip on the re gulato r hose. Secure th e clip into the slot on the under side of the tank s cale(D).
2) Loosen hand nut and rotate tank lock up .
3) Lift tank into position onto the hoo k on the tank scale.
4) Rotate the tank lock down. Tighten the hand nut.
5) Screw the r egulator coupling onto the tank valve, turning clockwise. Hand-tighten only. Using a w rench could damage the regulator coupling and co uld caus e a leak. Procee d to “CHECKING FOR G ASLE AKS.”
For models without a tank scale
For mode ls without a tank scale, the LP tank will hang on the tank hook mounted on the inside pa nel.
1) Locate the metal hose rete ntion clip on the re gulato r hose. Secure th e clip into the slot on the under side of the tank hook bra cket.
2) Lift tank into position onto the tank hook.
3) Screw the r egulator coupling onto the tank valve, turning clockwise. Hand-tighten only. Using a w rench could damage the regulator coupling and co uld caus e a leak. Procee d to “CHECKING FOR G ASLE AKS.”

Refilling or Replacing an LPTank
How Much Fuel is in the Tank?
This feature is only available on select models .
The tank scale indicates the amount of fuel in a standard 20 pound (9.07 kg) tank once the tank is hung from the scale. The fuel level is checked by viewin g the indicator line loc ated on the scale inside of the cabinet. Som e model s includ e an indicator on the front of the grill . The indicator point s to a full t ank (A), and gra dually mo ves to indica te when th e tank is empty (B) an d needs to be remove d to replace or refill.
Removal of the LP Tank
1) Make sure the grill is o and cool .
2) Confirm that the tank valve is fully clos ed. Close by turning valve clockwise.

What is a Regulator?
Your gas grill is equipped with a pressure regulator, which is a device to control and maintain uniform gas pressure as gas is released from the LP tank.
Regulator Requirements
• The regulator and hose assembly supplied with this grill must be used. This regulator has a flow limiting device built into the unit that will restrict the flow of gas in the event that a leak is detected.
• Replacement regulator and hose assemblies must be as specified by Weber-Stephen Products LLC (UL-listed Type 1 (CGA 791) tank connection device as described in the latest edition of ANSI Z21.81).

Cleaning and Maintenance
Cleaning the Inside of the Grill
Over time, the performance of your grill can diminish if it has not b een maint ained proper ly. Low temp eratures, uneven heat, and f ood sticking to cookin g grates are all signs that cleaning and maintenance ar e overdu e. When your grill is o and cool, start by c leaning the insid e, from the top down. A thorough cle aning is recommended at least t wice a year. Consistent use may r equire quarterly cleanings.
Cleaning the Lid
From time to time you may notice “p aint-like” flakes on the inside of the lid. Durin g use, grease and smoke vap ors slowly change into c arbon and deposit on the inside of your lid. These deposi ts will e ventual ly peel , and loo ks very similar to paint. Th ese dep osits are non-toxic, but the flakes co uld fall o nto your food if you do not clean the lid regularly.
1) Brush the c arbonized grease fro m the inside of the lid
B

with a stainless steel bristle grill br ush (A). To minimize further build-up, the inside of the lid can be wiped with a paper towel after grill ing while the grill is still warm (nothot).
Cleaning the Cooking Grates
Cleaned grates will prevent your next meal from sticking. If you are cleaning yo ur cooking grates regul arly, the debris on your grates will be minimal.
1) W ith grates installed, brush th e debris o your co oking grate with a stainless steel bristle grill brush (B).
2) Take the grates out and set a side.
Cleaning the FLAVORIZERBARS
FLAVORIZER BA RS catch drippings that smoke and sizzle, adding fl avor to your food. Any drip pings that are not vaporized by the FLAVORIZER BA RS are funneled away from the burner s. This helps pr event flare-ups inside of your grill, and protects the burners f rom get ting clo gged.
1) Scrape the FLAVORIZER BARS with a plastic scrap er (C).
2) If neces sary, brush the F LAVORIZER BARS with a stainless ste el bris tle gril l brush .
3) Remove FL AVORIZE R BARS an d set aside.
Cleaning the Burners
Two areas on the burners that are key to optimum perf ormance are the p ort s (small raised openings running along the length of the burners) and the spider/insec t screens on the ends of the burner. Keeping these areas clean is essential for safe operation.
Cleaning the Burner Ports
1) Us e a clean stainles s steel bristle grill brush to cle an the out side of th e burners by bru shing across the top of the burner por ts (D).
2) When cleaning the burners, avoid damaging the ignition electrode by careful ly brushing around it.
Cleaning the Spider Screens
1) Locate the ends of the burne rs on the undersi de of the control panel wh ere they meet the valves .
2) Clean the spider/insect scr eens on e ach of the b urner s using a soft bristle br ush (E).
Cleaning the Heat Deflectors
Located under t he burners, th e heat deflectors distr ibute heat evenly throughout the cookbox while c ooking. Keeping heat defl ector s clean will enhance the coo king perf ormance of your gr ill.
1) Scrape the heat deflectors with a plastic scraper.
2) If neces sary, brush the h eat deflectors with a st ainles s steel bristle grill br ush.
3) Remove heat deflec tors and set aside.
6
Page 7
Cleaning the Cookbox
Look inside the cookbox f or any grease accumulati on or leftover food particles. Exces sive accumulation can cause a fire.
1) Us e a plastic scraper to scrape deb ris o the sides an d botto m of the grill into the o pening in bottom of the cookb ox. This opening leads debris into the slide-ou t grease tray.
Cleaning the Grease ManagementSystem
The grease management system consist s of an angled slide-out gr ease tr ay and a catch pan. T hese components were designed to b e easily r emoved, cleaned, and replaced; an es sential step every time you prepare to grill.
Cleaning the Outside of theGrill
The out side of your grill may include stainless steel, porcelain- enameled, and plastic surfaces. W EBER recommends the follow ing meth ods bas ed on the surfacetype.
Cleaning Stainless Steel Surfaces
Clean st ainles s steel using a non -toxic , non-abrasive stainless ste el cleaner or polish designed for use on outdoor produ cts and grill s. Use a microfiber cloth to clean in the dire ction of the grain of the stainless steel . Donot use paper towel s.
Note: Do not r isk scratchin g your stainless steel w ith abrasive pastes. Pas tes do not clean or polish. They will chan ge the color of the m etal by remov ing the top chromium oxid e film coating.
Cleaning Painted, Porcelain-Enameled Surfaces and PlasticComponents
Clean painted, porcelain-enameled and plastic components wi th warm s oapy water, and paper towels or cloth. After w iping down the sur faces, rinse and dry thoroughly.
Cleaning the Outside of Grills that are in Unique Environments
If your grill is subj ect to a particularly harsh environment, you will want to clean the outside mor e often. Acid rain, pool chemical s, and salt water c an cause surface rusting to appear. Wipe down th e outsi de of your grill with warm soapy water. Follow up with a rins e and thorough dr ying. Additionally, you may want to apply a stainless steel cleaner weekly to prevent surface rust.

Spider Screens
The combustio n air openings of the burners(D) are fitted with stainless steel screens to prevent spider s and other insects from spinning webs and building nests inside the burne rs. Additiona lly, dust and debris can accumulate on t he outside of the spider/ insect screen and obstruct t he oxyg en flow to the burners.

DIRECT HEAT
SETUP
Use the direct method for small, tender pieces of food that take less than 20 minutes to cook, suchas: hamburgers, steaks, chops, kabobs, boneless chicken pieces, fish fillets, shellfish, and slicedvegetables.
With direct heat, the fire is right below the food. It sears the surfaces of the food, developing flavors, texture, and delicious caramelization while cooking the food all the way to thecenter.
Use the indirect method for larger cuts of meat that require 20 minutes or more of grilling time, or for foods so delicate that direct exposure to the heat would dry them out or scorch them, such as: roasts, bone-in poultry pieces, whole fish, delicate fish fillets, whole chickens, turkeys, and ribs. Indirect heat can also be used for finishing thicker foods or bone-in cuts that have been seared or browned first over direct heat.
With indirect heat, the heat is on both sides of the grill, or o to one side of the grill. The food sits over the unlit part on the cooking gra
GrillingDo’s andDon’ts
Preheat each and every time.
If the cooking grates aren’t hot enough, food will stick, and you will likely never have a chance of searing properly or developing those handsome grill marks. Even if a recipe calls for medium or low heat, always preheat the grill on the highest setting first. Open the lid, turn up the heat, close the lid, and then let the cooking grate heat up for 15 minutes on high.
Don't grill on dirty grates.
Tossing food onto the cooking grates before they have been cleaned is never a good idea. Leftover “stu” on the grates acts like glue, binding it to the grates and your new food. To avoid tasting last night’s dinner on today’s lunch, make sure you are grilling on a clean cooking grate. Once the grates are preheated, use a stainless steel bristle grill brush to make a clean, smooth surface.
Try not to peek.
The lid on your grill is for more than just keeping the rain out. Most importantly, it’s for preventing too much air from getting in, and too much heat and smoke from getting out. When the lid is closed, the cooking grates are hotter, the grilling times are faster, the smoky tastes are stronger, and the flare-ups are fewer. So put a lid on it!
Only flip once.
What’s better than a juicy steak with a deep sear and plenty of beautifully caramelized bits? The key to accomplishing these results is to keep your food in place. Sometimes we have the tendency to flip our food before it reaches the desirable level of color and flavor. In nearly all cases, you should turn food just once. If fiddling with it more than that, you are probably also opening the lid too much, which causes its own set of problems. So step back and trust the grill.

Be present in the process.
Before firing up your grill, make sure that everything you need is within arm’s reach. Don’t forget your essential grilling tools, already oiled and seasoned food, glazes or sauces, and clean cooking platters for cooked food. Having to run back to your kitchen not only means missing out on the fun, but could also result in burning your food. French chefs call this “mise en place” (meaning, “put in place”). We call it “being present”.
Create a little elbow room.
Packing too much food onto the cooking grates restricts your flexibility. Leave at least one-quarter of the cooking grates clear, with plenty of space between each food item, in order to get your tongs in there and easily move the food around. Sometimes grilling involves split-second decisions and the ability to jockey food from one area to another. Sogive yourself enough room to operate.
Know when to tame the flame.
When grilling, sometimes the most important thing to know is when to stop. The most reliable way to test doneness of your food is to invest in an instant-read thermometer. This slim little gem will help you pinpoint that critical moment when your food is at its best.
Don’t be afraid to experiment.
Back in the 1950s, grilling meant one thing: meat (and only meat) charred over open flames. The modern day backyard chef doesn’t need a kitchen in order to prepare a full course meal. Use your grill to make char-grilled appetizers, sides, and even desserts. Register your grill to receive special content that will inspire you along the way. We’d love to join you on your grilling adventures.

Smoke will star t in approximately 10 minutes and last as long as 90 minutes. Do not attempt to move hot components to refill the smoker with wood chips. Keep the lid of the grill closed while cooking.
Option 2: Setting up for Direct Cooking
The smoker box is position ed where the Weber logo is over the center burner during grilling, with main burners set on low (G).
Notes: For best smoking results, burners in use should be on low. Do not place the main body of the smoker box directly over a burner. This could ignite all of the wood chips at once resulting in reduced smoking times.
Always grill with the lid closed to allow the smoke to fully penetrate the food.
When you're finished smoking, turn burners off and close the grill lid until the wood chips have extinguished.
Remove smoker box from the grill if not in use.

Auxiliary Power Input
Connecting an External Power Bank
As an alternative to using an A C wall outlet to power the WEBER CONNECT Module durin g your cook, you can instead connect an external rechargeable power bank, sold seperately.
The pow er bank should have a minimum capacit y of 10,000 mA hours with a 5 volt USB-A connector. Due to the low power draw of the Genesis Smart grill, when usin g a rechar geable p ower bank, you must use the USB-A port on the power bank to the USB- C input on t he grill using a USB-A to USB-C cable, sold seperately.
The shelf under th e side table can accept a power bank with a max imum dime nsion of 4" wid e x 7" deep x 1.25" high.
The WEBER CONNECT module will draw powe r automat ically f rom the p ower bank if AC power is lost or unplugg ed. Th e power supply switch only control s the current from the wall outlet to the gr ill.
1) Using a USB-A to USB-C cable, c onnec t the cable to the USB-A port on the power b ank (A).
2) Remove the silicone dust cap f rom the c ontrol b oard. Connect the cable to the USB-C port on the control board (B) .
3) Confirm th e power bank is on.
4) Place the power bank on the small shelf b eneath the side table (C).
Refer to the manufacturer's oper ating guide for instructions on fully charging the power bank.
Additional informatio n regarding the us e of a power bank:
• Do not plug the power bank into an exterior outlet
while it is connected to the grill.
• Disconnect the power bank from the grill and bring it
indoors after use. Reinsert the silicone dust cap over the USB-C port on the control board (D).
• The power bank will not supply power to the burner
igniters. Refer to "Checking the Components of the Electronic Ignition System".
• The USB-C connector on the control board is for input
power only and does not output power.
• The USB-C connector on the control board is not for
data transmission.
• Do not store the power bank outside.
• Fully recharge the power bank before every use. The
battery level of the power bank is not monitored by the grill.
• Use only if outdoor temperature is between 10°F
(-12°C) to 100°F (38°C) unless the power bank is rated for higher and/or lower temperature conditions. Follow the manufacturer's operating guidelines..
