CBC-100 Series Clutch/Brake Controls
P-266 819-0472
Installation and Operation Manual
Introduction
The Warner Electric CBC-100 series clutch/brake controls are compact units designed for operation of all Warner Electric 90 VDC clutches and brakes. They should not, however, be used to directly power Warner Electric permanent magnet failsafe brakes as these products require an adjustable current or voltage supply for optimum release.
The CBC-100 controls can be conveniently mounted into any Warner Electric’s standard conduit box or into any control panel. These controls are single channel devices available in two models:
CBC-100-1 120 VAC input CBC-100-2 220/240 VAC input
Internal circuitry provides suppression of transients during decay of the magnetic field to assure fast current decay for rapid cycle rates. Customer supplied switching is accomplished on the AC input to the control. The CBC-100 series controls are UL Listed and CSA Certified.
Cycle Rate
In most applications, the maximum cycle rate is limited by the clutch and/or brake capability rather than by the control. To determine specific capabilities, consult the Application Engineering section of Warner Electric Catalogs, P-1234 and P-1264. The following table lists those clutch/brake models which maximum cycle rate may be limited by this control.

To avoid injury (or even death), always make certain all power is off before attempting to install this control or any electrical equipment.
1. Conduit Box Mount
a. Mount the conduit box to the magnet
assembly per the instructions found in the manual shipped with the clutch or brake.
b. Connect wires to the power source, switching,
and magnet coil per the Connection diagram and the following instructions:
1. Connect the red wire to one of the magnet terminals.
2. Connect the red/white stripe wire to the other magnet terminal.
3. Connect the hot side of the power source to the black/red wire through the fuse and switch as shown.
4. Connect the neutral side (other hot side for the CBC-100-2) to the white wire.
c. Attach the cover with the CBC-100 to the
conduit box.
2. Panel Mount a. Mount the CBC-100 in a convenient location in
the conrol panel using the Dimensions diagram. NOTE: A barrier strip or terminal strip is recommended for wiring between the CBC100 and the external connections to the brake or clutch, switch, fuse, and power source.
b. Connect the power source, switching, and
magnet coil per the Connection diagram and the following instructions:
1. Connect the red wire to one of the magnet terminals.
2. Connect red/white strip wire to the other magnet terminal.
3. Connect the hot side of the power source to the black/red wire through the fuse and switch as shown.
4. Connect the neutral side (other hot side for the CBC-100-2) to the white wire.
