Important safety instructions

When using your telephone equipment, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of re, electric shock

and injury, including the following:

This product should be installed by a qualied technician.

This product should only be connected to the host equipment and never directly to the network such as Public Switch Telephone

Network (PSTN) or Plain Old Telephone Services (POTS).

Read and understand all instructions.

Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the product. Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.

Do not use this product near water such as near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub or swimming pool, or in a wet

6. basement or shower.

Do not place this product on an unstable table, shelf, stand or other unstable surfaces.

Slots and openings in the back or bottom of the telephone base and handset are provided for ventilation. To protect them from

overheating, these openings must not be blocked by placing the product on a soft surface such as a bed, sofa or rug. This product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register. This product should not be placed in any area where proper ventilation is not provided.

This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the

type of power supply on the premises, consult your dealer or local power company.

Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not install this product where the cord may be walked on.

Never push objects of any kind into this product through the slots in the telephone base or handset because they may touch

11. dangerous voltage points or create a short circuit. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.

To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble this product, but take it to an authorized service facility. Opening or

12. removing parts of the telephone base or handset other than specied access doors may expose you to dangerous voltages or other risks. Incorrect reassembling can cause electric shock when the product is subsequently used.

Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords.

Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to an authorized service facility under the following conditions:

When the power supply cord or plug is damaged or frayed.

If liquid has been spilled onto the product.

•

If the product has been exposed to rain or water.

If the product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by

the operation instructions. Improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and often requires extensive work by an authorized technician to restore the product to normal operation.

If the product has been dropped and the telephone base and/or handset has been damaged.

If the product exhibits a distinct change in performance.

•

Avoid using a telephone (other than cordless) during an electrical storm. There is a remote risk of electric shock from lightning.

Do not use the telephone to report a gas leak in the vicinity of the leak. Under certain circumstances, a spark may be created

16. when the adapter is plugged into the power outlet, or when the handset is replaced in its cradle. This is a common event associated with the closing of any electrical circuit. The user should not plug the phone into a power outlet, and should not put a charged handset into the cradle, if the phone is located in an environment containing concentrations of ammable or amesupporting gases, unless there is adequate ventilation. A spark in such an environment could create a re or explosion. Such environments might include: medical use of oxygen without adequate ventilation; industrial gases (cleaning solvents; gasoline vapors; etc.); a leak of natural gas; etc.

Only put the handset of your telephone next to your ear when it is in normal talk mode.

The power adapters are intended to be correctly oriented in a vertical or oor mount position. The prongs are not designed to

18. hold the plug in place if it is plugged into a ceiling, under-the-table or cabinet outlet.

Use only the power cord and batteries indicated in this manual. Do not dispose of batteries in a re. They may explode. Check

19. with local codes for possible special disposal instructions.

In wall mounting position, make sure to mount the telephone base on the wall by aligning the eyelets with the mounting studs of

20. the wall plate. Then slide the telephone base down on both mounting studs until it locks into place. Refer to the full instructions

in Installation in the user’s manual.

CAUTION: Keep small metallic objects such as pins and staples away from the handset receiver.

CAUTION: There may be a risk of explosion if a wrong type of handset battery is used (A2410, A2420, C4100, C4200,

CTM-A241HS, CTM-A241SD, CTM-A242HS, CTM-A242SD, CTM-A2411, CTM-A2411-BATT, CTM-A2421, CTM-A2421-BATT, CTM-A2510, CTM-C4101 and CTM-C4201). Use only the supplied rechargeable battery (BT264392/BT266342) or replacement battery (BT266342). Dispose of used batteries according to the information in The RBRC® seal in the user’s manual.

Telephone base installation

This telephone can be adapted to desktop use or mount on a standard telephone wall plate.

Installation option - desktop position

Turn the telephone base over with the bottom side facing up. Connect the coiled handset cord to the telephone base.

Insert the tabs into the grooves to afx the mounting bracket in place.

Install the telephone base as shown below.

Installation option - converting from desktop to wall mount position

To mount the telephone base on the wall:

Set aside the handset. On the telephone base cradle, place a coin in the slit of the wall mount clip and rotate a half turn

(180 degrees). It locks into place with the protruding edge pointing towards the upper edge of the telephone base. This protruding edge holds the handset when the phone is mounted on the wall.

Turn the telephone base over with the bottom side facing up. To remove the mounting bracket, rmly push both tabs downward

and pull up until both tabs release from the grooves.

Mount the telephone base on the wall by aligning the eyelets with the mounting studs of the wall plate. Then slide the telephone

base down on both mounting studs until it locks into place.

Place the handset on the telephone base cradle.

Telephone base installation

The telephone can be adapted to desktop use or mount on a standard telephone wall plate.

Turn the telephone base over with the bottom side facing up. Connect the telephone line cord to the telephone base and route

along the wire duct.

Position the mounting bracket as shown. Insert the two small tabs of the mounting bracket into the lower slots on the telephone

base. Then press the large tab on the mounting bracket and rmly push it into the upper groove on the telephone base.

Installation

Install the telephone base as shown below. Then connect the coiled handset cord to the telephone base.

Turn the mounting bracket upside down. Remove the telephone line cord from the wire duct and then route it through the

rectangular hole on the mounting bracket. Insert the small tabs on the mounting bracket into the upper slots on the telephone base. Then press the large tab on the mounting bracket and rmly push it into the lower groove on the telephone base.

Mount the telephone base on the wall by aligning the eyelets with the mounting studs of the wall plate. Then slide the telephone

base down on both mounting studs until it locks into place. Place the handset on the telephone base cradle.

To mount the telephone base on the wall:

Unplug the power adapter and telephone line cord. Disconnect the power cord from the telephone base.

Set aside the handset. On the telephone base cradle, place a coin in the slit of the wall mount clip and rotate a half turn

(180 degrees). It locks into place with the protruding edge pointing towards the upper edge of the telephone base. This protruding edge holds the handset when the phone is mounted on the wall.

Turn the telephone base over with the bottom side facing up. To remove the mounting bracket, rmly push both tabs downward

and pull up until both tabs release from the grooves.

Mount the telephone base on the wall by aligning the eyelets with the mounting studs of the wall plate. Then slide the telephone

base down on both mounting studs until it locks into place.

Telephone base backup battery installation

You can install a backup battery in the telephone base to guarantee continual operation during a power outage. The telephone base backup battery only supports complete operation for the telephone base and handset on line 1 during a power outage.

You can buy rechargeable battery (BT264392/BT266342) for the telephone base. When the battery is installed and AC power is connected, the battery will be recharged.

You should replace the installed battery when the LED next to the battery compartment ashes. Install the battery as shown below.

Insert a 5 mm standard screwdriver in the provided slot and then twist and lift to remove the battery compartment cover.

Plug the battery connector securely into the socket inside the battery compartment.

Place the battery with the label THIS SIDE UP facing up and the wires inside the battery compartment.

To replace the cover, align all the tabs on the telephone base battery cover against the corresponding grooves on the telephone

base, then rmly push downward until all the tabs lock in the grooves. Install the screw at the bottom of the handset.

Any CTM-A241SD/CTM-C4101 handset can register to any A2410/CTM-A2411/CTM-A2411-BATT/CTM-A2510 telephone base. Any CTM-A242SD/CTM-C4201 handset can register to any A2421/CTM-A2421/CTM-A2421-BATT telephone base.

Deregister the registered cordless handset from its base (see Handset deregistration above) and then register it to a new telephone base (see Handset registration above).

Ringer tone

There are 3 ringer tone options. For 2-line model (A2220), changing the ringer tone of either LINE 1 or LINE 2 applies to both phone lines.

To change the ringer tone:

Turn the telephone base over with the bottom side facing up.

For lobby (A2100), 1-line (A2210) and 2-line (A2220) models, remove the mounting bracket if it is in desktop position. To

remove the mounting bracket, rmly push both tabs downward and pull up until they release from the grooves.

For trimstyle model (A2310), remove the mounting bracket. To remove the mounting bracket, rmly press down the tab on it

and pull out to detach it from the telephone base.

For 1-line and 2-line models (A2210 and A2220), there are up to 10 programmable guest-service (Speed Dial) keys. Program these keys to automatically dial telephone numbers or to activate telephone system features.

To program a Speed Dial key:

Remove the faceplate and overlay if they are on the telephone base. Press /SPEAKER on the telephone base or lift the

1. handset. Then press the recessed PROGRAM key. The MUTE key ashes when in administrator mode.

Press the desired Speed Dial key where the telephone number is to be stored. You hear 3 beeps.

2. Enter the telephone number (up to 16 digits).

To insert a pause in the stored number, press the recessed PAUSE key.

The telephone stores the number automatically when 16 digits are entered. When the number has less than 16 digits, press the

recessed PROGRAM key again. You hear 3 rising beeps as conrmation.

Ringer tone

Telephone settings

Hold

The call on hold timeout duration can be programmed from 01 to 99 minutes. Select 00 to disable the auto-release feature on call on hold.

To change the call on hold timeout duration:

Remove the faceplate and overlay if they are on the telephone base. Then press the recessed PROGRAM key.

1. Press 02 and you hear 3 beeps. Then press the dialing keys from 00 to 99 minutes. You hear 3 rising beeps as conrmation.

Voicemail voltage detection

There are several voicemail voltage detection methods on the telephone base that can be programmed.

To disable the voicemail voltage detection:

Remove the faceplate and overlay if they are on the telephone base.

1. Press the recessed PROGRAM key, then press 100.

2. Press the recessed PROGRAM key, then press 110.

3. Press the recessed PROGRAM key, then press 120.

4. Press the recessed PROGRAM key, then press 130.

5. Press the recessed PROGRAM key, then press 140.

To set the voicemail voltage detection by the steady high voltage, periodic high voltage pulse and periodic low voltage pulse detection method:

Follow Step 1 to Step 6 in To disable the voicemail voltage detection above.

1. Press the recessed PROGRAM key.

2. Press 10 and you hear 3 beeps. Then press 1 to enable the setting. You hear 3 rising beeps as conrmation.

To set the voicemail voltage detection by the line reversal method:

Follow Step 1 to Step 6 in To disable the voicemail voltage detection above.

1. Disable voicemail signal to the telephone.

2. Press the recessed PROGRAM key.

3. Press 11 and you hear 3 beeps. Then press 1 (auto). You hear 3 rising beeps as conrmation.

4. Get a dial tone. Wait for about 3 seconds and then hang up.

5. After about 15 seconds, when the MESSAGE WAITING LED is off, enable voicemail signal to the telephone.

6. After about 15 seconds, when the MESSAGE WAITING LED is on, disable voicemail signal to the telephone. After about

7. 15 seconds, the MESSAGE WAITING LED is off if you successfully completes the setting.

If you fail to set the above setting, follow below steps to set another setting.

Follow Step 1 to Step 6 in To disable the voicemail voltage detection above.

1. Disable voicemail signal to the telephone.

2. Press the recessed PROGRAM key.

3. Press 11 and you hear 3 beeps. Then press 2 (default 0) or 3 (default 1). You hear 3 rising beeps as conrmation. After about

15 seconds, if the MESSAGE WAITING LED is on, repeat the steps above to try another setting. After about 15 seconds, when the MESSAGE WAITING LED is off, enable voicemail signal to the telephone.

5. After about 15 seconds, when the MESSAGE WAITING LED is on, disable voicemail signal to the telephone. After about

15 seconds, the MESSAGE WAITING LED is off if you successfully completes the setting.

To set the voicemail voltage detection by the FSK detection method:

Follow Step 1 to Step 6 in To disable the voicemail voltage detection above.

1. Press the recessed PROGRAM key.

2. Press 12 and you hear 3 beeps. Then press 1 to enable the setting. You hear 3 rising beeps as conrmation.

To set the voicemail voltage detection by the Siemens detection method:

4. After about 15 seconds, when the MESSAGE WAITING LED is off, enable voicemail signal to the telephone. After about

15 seconds, if the MESSAGE WAITING LED is still off, repeat the steps above to try another setting. Disable voicemail signal to the telephone. After about 15 seconds, the MESSAGE WAITING LED is off if you successfully

To set the voicemail voltage detection by the Panasonic detection method:

Speed Dial keys

For an A2410/A2420 telephone base, there are up to 10 programmable guest-service (Speed Dial) keys. For a CTM-A2411/ CTM-A2411-BATT/CTM-A2421/CTM-A2421-BATT/CTM-A2510 telephone base, there are up to 11 programmable guest-service

(Speed Dial) keys. Program these keys to automatically dial telephone numbers or to activate telephone system features.

To program a Speed Dial key on the telephone base:

Remove the faceplate and overlay if they are on the telephone base. Then press the recessed PROGRAM key.

1. Press the desired Speed Dial key where the telephone number is to be stored. You hear 3 beeps.

To program the MESSAGES key on the cordless handset:

Remove the faceplate and overlay if they are on the telephone base. Then press the recessed PROGRAM key.

1. Press 60 and you hear 3 beeps.

Enter the telephone number (up to 32 digits).

To insert a pause in the stored number, press the recessed PAUSE key.

The telephone stores the number automatically when 32 digits are entered. When the number has less than 32 digits, press the

recessed PROGRAM key again. You hear 3 rising beeps as conrmation.

To clear the programmed MESSAGES key on the cordless handset:

To program the MESSAGES/Speed Dial key on a CTM-A241SD/CTM-A242SD/CTM-C4101/CTM-C4201 cordless handset:

Press 234 and then HOLD when the cordless handset is not in use.

When a CTM-A241P/CTM-A242P is registered to a CTM-A2411/CTM-A2411-BATT/CTM-A2421/CTM-A2421-BATT/ CTM-A2510 telephone base, you can program these keys using the telephone base or share the same Speed Dial numbers with

the telephone base.

To enable the Speed Dial number sharing from the telephone base:

Remove the faceplate and overlay if they are on the telephone base. Then press the recessed PROGRAM key.

1. Press 03 and you hear 3 beeps. Then press 1 to enable. You hear 3 rising beeps as conrmation.

If you program a different set of Speed Dial numbers to the accessory Petite, you must disable the Speed Dial number sharing before you can program the Speed Dial numbers.

To disable the Speed Dial number sharing from the telephone base:

Enter the telephone number (up to 32 digits).

Receive a call

The telephone rings when there is an incoming call. Lift the corded handset from the telephone base to answer.

Place a call

Lift the corded handset and it automatically connects to the operator. Refer to your PABX user’s manual for automatic dialing.

End a call

Place the corded handset in the telephone base.

Volume

Listening volume and ringer volume can be adjusted from the telephone base.

To adjust the listening volume: During a call, press +/VOLUME or -/VOLUME to adjust the listening volume. The next call returns to the default listening volume.

To adjust the ringer volume: At any time, slide the RINGER VOL switch on the right side of the telephone base to adjust the ringer volume.

Data port

You can connect your modem or fax machine to the telephone line through the DATA port.

Using the corded handset and the telephone base

The corded handset and the telephone base speakerphone cannot be used at the same time. However, calls can be switched

between the corded handset and the telephone base speakerphone.

Receive a call

When there is an incoming call, the telephone rings and the MESSAGE WAITING LED ashes.

To answer a call using the corded handset:

Lift the corded handset from the telephone base.

To answer a call using the telephone base: On the telephone base, press /SPEAKER. The /SPEAKER key illuminates when in speakerphone mode.

Place a call

Lift the corded handset or press /SPEAKER on the telephone base. Listen for a dial tone and then dial the desired number, or press a Speed Dial key to dial a programmed number. The /SPEAKER key illuminates when in speakerphone mode.

End a call

Place the corded handset in the telephone base, or press /SPEAKER when in speakerphone mode.

Switch a call between the corded handset and the telephone base speakerphone

To switch a call from the corded handset to the telephone base speakerphone, press /SPEAKER on the telephone base, then

place the corded handset on the telephone base cradle.

To switch a call from the telephone base speakerphone to the corded handset currently on the telephone base cradle, lift the

•

corded handset from the telephone base cradle.

To switch a call from the telephone base speakerphone to the corded handset which is not on the telephone base cradle, press

/SPEAKER on the telephone base.

Share a call

During a call, parallel telephones (telephones on the same line) can join the call.

To join a call: During a call, lift the corded handset or press /SPEAKER to join.

Volume

Listening volume and ringer volume can be adjusted from the telephone base.

To adjust the listening volume: During a call, press +/VOLUME or -/VOLUME to adjust the listening volume. The next call returns to the default listening volume.

To adjust the ringer volume: At any time, slide the RINGER VOL switch on the right side of the telephone base to adjust the ringer volume.

Call waiting

When you hear a call waiting tone during a call, press FLASH on the telephone base to put your current call on hold and take

Press FLASH or the switch hook once rapidly at any time to switch back and forth between calls.

Mute

To mute the microphone:

During a call, press MUTE on the telephone base. The MUTE key illuminates when the mute function is turned on. You can hear

1. the party on the other end but they cannot hear you.

Press MUTE again to resume the conversation. The light on the MUTE key turns off.

Hold

When a call is placed on hold, any parallel phone that tries to use the same phone line will take the call off hold and pick the call.

To place a call on hold:

During a call, press HOLD on the telephone base to place that call on hold. The HOLD key ashes when the call is placed

1. on hold.

To release the call from hold, press /SPEAKER, HOLD or lift the handset from the telephone base cradle.

Data port

You can connect your modem or fax machine to the telephone line through the DATA port.

Using the corded handset and the telephone base

The corded handset and the telephone base speakerphone cannot be used at the same time. However, calls can be switched

between the corded handset and the telephone base speakerphone.

Receive a call

When there is a line 1 incoming call, the telephone rings. The MESSAGE WAITING LED and LINE 1 key ash.

When there is a line 2 incoming call, the telephone rings. LINE 2 key ashes.

To answer a call using the corded handset:

Lift the cordless handset. It automatically connects to the ringing line. The respective line key illuminates when in use.

To answer a call using the telephone base:

Press the ashing line key for the ringing line, or press /SPEAKER. It automatically connects to the ringing line. The respective line key and the /SPEAKER key illuminate when in use.

Place a call

Lift the corded handset, or press LINE 1, LINE 2, or /SPEAKER on the telephone base. Listen for a dial tone and then dial the desired number, or press a Speed Dial key to dial a programmed number. The respective line key illuminates when in use. The

/SPEAKER key illuminates when in speakerphone mode.

End a call

Place the corded handset in the telephone base, or press /SPEAKER or the active line key when in speakerphone mode.

Switch a call between the corded handset and the telephone base speakerphone

To switch a call from the corded handset to the telephone base speakerphone, press /SPEAKER on the telephone base,

then place the corded handset on the telephone base cradle. The active line is selected. When both lines are in use or on hold, LINE 1 is selected.

To switch a call from the telephone base speakerphone to the corded handset currently on the telephone base cradle, lift the

corded handset from the telephone base cradle. The active line is selected. When both lines are in use or on hold, LINE 1 is selected.

To switch a call from the telephone base speakerphone to the corded handset which is not on the telephone base cradle, press

/SPEAKER on the telephone base. The active line is selected. When both lines are in use or on hold, LINE 1 is selected.

Share a call

During a call, parallel telephones (telephones on the same line) can join the call.

To join a call: During a call on line 1 or line 2, press the respective LINE 1 or LINE 2 key to join.

Speakerphone

When the telephone is idle, press /SPEAKER. The rst available line is selected, starting with line 1.

To place a call using the corded handset:

Volume

Listening volume can be adjusted on the cordless handset and the telephone base.

To adjust the listening volume:

During a call on the handset, press -/VOLUME/+ on it to adjust the listening volume. The next call returns to the default

listening volume.

During a call on the telephone base, press +/VOLUME or -/VOLUME on it to adjust the listening volume. The next call returns to

the default listening volume.

Ringer volume of the telephone base can be adjusted.

To adjust the ringer volume of the telephone base: When the telephone base is idle, press +/VOLUME or -/VOLUME on it to adjust the ringer volume.

Call waiting

When you hear a call waiting tone during a call, press FLASH on the cordless handset or telephone base to put the current call

on hold and take the new incoming call. Press FLASH or the switch hook once rapidly at any time to switch back and forth between calls.

Mute

To mute the microphone:

During a call, press MUTE on the cordless handset or telephone base. The MUTE key illuminates when the mute function is

1. turned on. You can hear the party on the other end but they cannot hear you.

Press MUTE again to resume the conversation. The light on the MUTE key turns off.

Hold

When a call is placed on hold, any parallel phone that tries to use the same phone line will take the call off hold and pick the call.

To place a call on hold on the cordless handset:

During a call, press HOLD on the cordless handset. The TALK key on the cordless handset and the HOLD key on the

If the telephone is not responding normally, put the cordless handset in the telephone base. If it does not x the problem, try the

1. Disconnect the power to the telephone base.

2. Disconnect the battery on the cordless handset.

3. Wait a few minutes before connecting power to the telephone base.

4. Install the battery again and place the cordless handset in the telephone base.

5. Wait for the cordless handset to synchronize with the telephone base. Allow up to one minute for this to take place.

Appendix

Precautions for users of implanted cardiac pacemakers

Cardiac pacemakers (applies only to digital cordless telephones):

Wireless Technology Research, LLC (WTR), an independent research entity, led a multidisciplinary evaluation of the interference

between portable wireless telephones and implanted cardiac pacemakers. Supported by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration,

WTR recommends to physicians that:

Pacemaker patients

Should keep wireless telephones at least six inches from the pacemaker.

•

Should NOT place wireless telephones directly over the pacemaker, such as in a breast pocket, when it is turned ON.

•

Should use the wireless telephone at the ear opposite the pacemaker.

•

WTR’s evaluation did not identify any risk to bystanders with pacemakers from other persons using wireless telephones.

Operating range

The cordless telephone operates with the maximum power allowed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Even so,

the cordless handset and telephone base can communicate over only a certain distance - which can vary with the locations of the

telephone base, cordless handset, the weather, and the layout of the hotel. When the cordless handset is out of range while on a call, the cordless handset rapidly beeps three times. If there is a call while the handset is out of range, it may not ring, or if it does ring, the call may not connect well when you answer

the call. Move closer to the telephone base to answer the call.

If the handset moves out of range during a telephone conversation, there may be interference. To improve reception, move closer to the telephone base.

About cordless telephones

Privacy: The same features that make a cordless telephone convenient create some limitations. Telephone calls are transmitted

• between the telephone base and the cordless handset by radio waves, so there is a possibility that the cordless telephone

conversations could be intercepted by radio receiving equipment within range of the cordless handset. For this reason, you should not think of cordless telephone conversations as being as private as those on corded telephones.

Electrical power: The telephone base of the cordless telephone must be connected to a working electrical outlet. The electrical

•

outlet should not be controlled by a wall switch. Calls cannot be made from the cordless handset if the telephone base is unplugged, switched off or if the electrical power is interrupted.

Potential TV interference: Some cordless telephones operate at frequencies that may cause interference to televisions and

•

VCRs. To minimize or prevent such interference, do not place the telephone base of the cordless telephone near or on top of a TV or VCR. If interference is experienced, moving the cordless telephone farther away from the TV or VCR often reduces or eliminates the interference.

Rechargeable batteries: Exercise care in handling batteries in order not to create a short circuit with conducting material such as

•

rings, bracelets and keys. The battery or conductor may overheat and cause harm. Observe proper polarity between the battery and the battery charger.

Nickel-metal hydride rechargeable batteries: Dispose of these batteries in a safe manner. Do not burn or puncture the battery.

•

Like other batteries of this type, if burned or punctured, they could release caustic material which could cause injury.

The RBRC® seal on the nickel-metal hydride battery indicates that VTech Communications, Inc. is voluntarily participating in an industry program to collect and recycle these batteries at the end of their useful lives, when taken out of service within the United

representative of VTech; or Product to the extent that the problem experienced is caused by signal conditions, network reliability or cable or antenna

systems; or Product to the extent that the problem is caused by use with non-VTech accessories; or

Product whose warranty/quality stickers, product serial number plates or electronic serial numbers have been removed, altered

or rendered illegible; or

Product purchased, used, serviced, or shipped for repair from outside the United States or Canada, or used for non-approved

commercial or institutional purposes (including but not limited to Products used for rental purposes); or Product returned without valid proof of purchase; or

Charges or costs incurred by the end user, and risk of loss or damage, in removing and shipping the Product, or for installation

or set up, adjustment of customer controls, and installation or repair of systems outside the unit. Line cords or coil cords, plastic overlays, connectors, power adapters and batteries, if the Product is returned without them.

VTech will charge the end user at then-current prices for each of the missing items. NiCd or NiMH handset batteries, or power adapters, which, under all circumstances, are covered by a one (1) year warranty only.

Except as provided by applicable law, you assume the risk of loss or damage during transit and transportation and are responsible for delivery or handling charges incurred in the transport of Product(s) to the service location. VTech’s authorized service representative will return repaired or replaced product under this limited warranty to you. Transportation, delivery and handling charges are prepaid. VTech assumes no risk for damage or loss of the Product in transit.

If the Product failure is not covered by this limited warranty, or proof of purchase does not meet the terms of this limited warranty,

VTech will notify you and will request that you authorize the cost of repair and return shipping costs for the repair of Products that

not covered by this limited warranty. You must pay for the cost of repair and return shipping costs for the repair of Products that are not covered by this limited warranty.

Other limitations

This warranty is the complete and exclusive agreement between you and VTech. It supersedes all other written or oral communications related to this Product. VTech provides no other warranties for this Product, whether express or implied, oral or written, or statutory. The warranty exclusively describes all of VTech’s responsibilities regarding the Product. No one is authorized to make modications to this warranty and you should not rely on any such modication.

VTech’s liability to end user hereunder shall not exceed the purchase price of the Product. In no event shall VTech be liable for any indirect, special, incidental, consequential, or similar damages (including, but not limited to lost prots or revenue, inability to use

the product, or other associated equipment, the cost of substitute equipment, and claims by third parties) resulting from the use of

this Product. Some states/provinces do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.

It is designed to be connected to a compatible modular jack that is also compliant. An RJ11 jack should normally be used for connecting to a single line and an RJ14 jack for two lines. See the installation instructions in the user’s manual.

The Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) is used to determine how many devices you may connect to your telephone line and still

have them ring when you are called. The REN for this product is encoded as the 6th and 7th characters following the US: in the product identier (e.g., if ## is 03, the REN is 0.3). In most, but not all areas, the sum of all RENs should be ve (5.0) or less. For more information, please contact your telephone service provider.

This equipment may not be used with Party Lines. If you have specially wired alarm dialing equipment connected to your telephone line, ensure the connection of this equipment does not disable your alarm equipment. If you have questions about what will disable alarm equipment, consult your telephone service provider or a qualied installer.

If this equipment is malfunctioning, it must be unplugged from the modular jack until the problem has been corrected. Repairs to this telephone equipment can only be made by the manufacturer or its authorized agents. For repair procedures, follow the instructions outlined under VTech Hospitality limited warranty program in the user’s manual.

If this equipment is causing harm to the telephone network, your telephone service provider may temporarily discontinue your telephone service. Your telephone service provider is required to notify you before interrupting service. If advance notice is not practical, you will be notied as soon as possible. You will be given the opportunity to correct the problem and your telephone service provider is required to inform you of your right to le a complaint with the FCC. Your telephone service provider may make changes in its facilities, equipment, operation, or procedures that could affect the proper functioning of this product. Your telephone service provider is required to notify you if such changes are planned.

If this product is equipped with a corded or cordless handset, it is hearing aid compatible. If this product has memory dialing locations, you may choose to store emergency telephone numbers (e.g., police, re, medical) in

these locations. If you do store or test emergency numbers, please: Remain on the line and briey explain the reason for the call before hanging up. Perform such activities in off-peak hours, such as early morning or late evening.

When the adjunct is used with a leased system, permission of the owner of the equipment must be obtained for connection of the

adjunct because modication of the host system is often required. This product can only be connected to the host equipment and never directly to the network.

Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must

accept any interference, including interference that may cause undesired operation. The term ‘’IC:‘’ before the certication/registration number only signies that the Industry Canada technical specications were met. This product meets the applicable Industry Canada technical specications.

Energy-saving charging mode

When this mode is activated, all telephone functions, except handset battery charging, will be disabled.

To activate the energy-saving charging mode in A2410/A2420/CTM-A2411/CTM-A2421:

Unplug the telephone base power adapter from the power outlet. Unplug the telephone line cord from the telephone wall jack.

Make sure all handsets are plugged with charged batteries before proceeding.

While you press and hold /FIND HANDSET, plug the telephone base power back to the power outlet.

After about 20 seconds, when the IN USE light starts ashing, release /FIND HANDSET and then press it again within

2 seconds. When the telephone base successfully enters the energy-saving charging mode, all keys on the telephone base should not respond.

Press *331734# and then press HOLD to deregister each handset manually.

When the phone successfully enters the energy-saving mode, the IN USE light turns off and you hear 3 rising beeps. When the phone fails to enter this mode, repeat Step 1 through Step 3 above.

Note: The telephone base will be powered up as normal if you fail to press /FIND HANDSET within 2 seconds in Step 3.

To deactivate the energy-saving charging mode:

Unplug the telephone base power adapter from the power outlet. Then plug the telephone base power adapter and the

telephone line cord back in. Then the telephone base is powered up as normal. Register the handsets back to the telephone base. See page 35 or 37 for handset registration instructions.

To activate the energy-saving charging mode in CTM-A2411-BATT/CTM-A2421-BATT:

Unplug the telephone base power adapter from the power outlet. Unplug the telephone line cord from the telephone wall jack,

and the backup battery from the telephone base. Make sure all handsets are plugged with charged batteries before proceeding.

While you press and hold /FIND HANDSET, plug the telephone base power back to the power outlet.

Maintenance

Taking care of the telephone

The telephone contains sophisticated electronic parts, so it must be treated with care.

Avoid rough treatment

Place the handset down gently. Save the original packing materials to protect the telephone if you ever need to ship it.

Avoid water

The telephone can be damaged if it gets wet. Do not use the handset outdoors in the rain, or handle it with wet hands. Do not install the telephone base near a sink, bathtub or shower.

Electrical storms

Electrical storms can sometimes cause power surges harmful to electronic equipment. For your own safety, take caution when using electrical appliances during storms.

Cleaning the telephone

The telephone has a durable plastic casing that should retain its luster for many years. Clean it only with a soft cloth slightly dampened with water or mild soap. Do not use excess water or cleaning solvents of any kind.

Remember that electrical appliances can cause serious injury if used when you are wet or standing in water. If the telephone base should fall into water, DO NOT RETRIEVE IT UNTIL YOU UNPLUG THE POWER CORD AND/OR TELEPHONE LINE CORD FROM THE WALL. Then remove the telephone by the unplugged cords.
