Important Instructions
This appliance has a polarized plug, which means that one blade is wider than the other. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, try reversing the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.
WARNING – To reduce the risk of fire or electrical shock, do not use this product with any solid-state speed control device.
¥ Do unplug your Swan before cleaning. ¥ Do clean your Swan regularly. ¥ Do use common sense when using this and/or any electrical appliance. ¥ Do not position your Swan too close to drapes, as they may be drawn into the rear grill and cut off air flow. ¥ Do not use outdoors. ¥ Do not use on wet surfaces. ¥ Do not immerse in water and never allow water to drip into the motor housing. ¥ Do not use if the power supply cord becomes frayed or brittle. ¥ Do not use gasoline, thinners or other chemicals to clean your Swan. ¥ Do not use near furnaces, fireplaces, stoves or other high-temperature heat sources. ¥ Do not oil the motor of your Swan.
The Vornado Swan Deco Fan
The Vornado Swan Deco Fan is an all-new design that features decorative elements from several style movements within the Deco period. The bullet-nose blade hub and overlapping elephant-ear paddles replicate those of the original 1934 Silver Swan fan. In addition, some of our favorite design elements from the MachineAge and Streamline design periods were integrated into the fan. The result is an elegantly striking and subtle refinement youll notice in the details. The sculpted base. The metal-on-metal pivot point of the fan head. The microphone-style cooling vents on the back of the motor housing. The grill graphic. Even the knobs. By the way, the Vornado Swan moves a lot of air. It just does it with unprecedented style.
Maintaining the Swan Deco Fan
The motor is permanently lubricated for years of trouble-free operation and requires no oiling. Your Swan fan will need periodic cleaning. Be sure to unplug the unit prior to cleaning.
Use a vacuum cleaner with the brush attachments to clean away any accumulated dust on the front and rear grills, as well as the motor housing. Wipe all the parts with a clean damp cloth. A mild detergent solution or a common household cleaner may be used if necessary.
For more thorough cleaning, the front grill can be removed. Use a Phillips-head screw driver to loosen the grill-ring retaining screwlocated at the six-oclock position on the grilland remove the front grill and grill ring. Using a clean damp cloth, simply wipe the blade and the rear grill behind the blade.
Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners, as this may damage the finish on the parts.
After cleaning, be sure that all parts are replaced correctly and that the grill-retaining screw is securely tightened.
A Helpful Note
The Vornado Swan is an oscillating fan, not a room air circulator. In order to provide personal comfort, the fan must blow air directly on you.
Perhaps you already own a Vornado Whole Room Air Circulator. We have found that many people enjoy the intermittent breeze from an oscillating fan in conjunction with the constant air circulation provided by an air circulator.
Operating the Swan Deco Fan
There are three major adjustments that can be made to your fan: the amount of air the fan moves, the direction in which it is moved and whether or not the fan oscillates. These adjustments are simple to make.
Oscillation Knob
To activate the oscillation feature, simply push the knob down. To stop the fan from oscillating, pull up the knob up.
Pivot Knob
Direct the air flow by adjusting the tilt of the motor head in the pivot yoke. To loosen the pivot knob to make an adjustment, turn the knob counter-clockwise and rotate the fan head to the desired tilt. Then retighten the pivot by turning the pivot knob clockwise. Always loosen the pivot knob before making a change in the angle of the tilt.
Speed Control
Adjust the speed control to provide the amount of air flow desired, from low to high.
