Alarm Module: Service Precautions
Control Modules Connecting Disconnecting Control Modules
Always switch off the ignition before connecting or disconnecting a connector or the test box to a control module.
Temperature
The control module must not be heated to above . Remove control module when stoving for example.80 C
Arc Welding
Disconnect connector from control modules when arc welding. Remove control module before carrying out any arc welding work close to it.
Replacing
Do not replace a control module without checking its wiring and components. The new component may be damaged in the same way as the oldone.
NOTE:
Make a note of the radio code before disconnecting the battery leads and the car is without voltage supply. Re-enter the code when thework has been completed.

Control module Preparations
Set the seat height adjustment to its uppermost position.
Remove:
- the battery negative lead
- two screws
- the four connectors.
Install:
In reverse order.
Programming memory functions
The new control module must be programmed with the positions for memory functions 1, 2 and 3. Otherwise diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)PSL/PSR-323, PSL/PSR-322 or PSL/PSR-321 may be stored.

Removing
Make a note of radio code if anti-theft coded radio is installed. Remove:
- Battery negative lead.
- Seat from car.
- The two screws from the bracket.
- Connector from the control module.
Reinstalling
Check that the new control module has P/N 9174904 (for the left seat) or 9174905 (for the right seat).Reinstall in reverse order.
SIPS airbag, removing the safety device
Remove the transport safety device from the sensor module and return it to its storage place on the inside of the control panel.

Reference:This service bulletin replaces the previous service bulletin SB 390025 from February 2001, which should be discarded.
Purpose:Additional source of electrical interference, V70 rear seat ground, is added. AM Radio diagnostics, interference
Background
This Service Bulletin explains how to fault trace sources electrical interference with the AM radio. Electrical interference can influence the quality ofradio output, and can sometimes be confused with poor AM reception because the result is similar. Static is heard in the speakers.
Before deciding to fault trace for AM interference, refer to Service Bulletin 39-0018: AM Radio Reception Diagnosing. It the number of receivedstations compares to a similar car, the cause of static may be electrical interference. After determining that the antenna system and station reception arenot the primary cause, follow the diagnostic information in this Service Bulletin.
Electrical interference causes static noise by inducing a signal that is picked up by the vehicle wiring and transported through the antenna input to theAUM. Electrical interference is usually noticed as static on the AM band, and is most noticeable between stations. To determine the source of electricalinterference, the best method is to selectively isolate or activate switches and nodes, one at a time, until the static is reproduced or eliminated. Staticcaused by electrical interference is usually rhythmic and reproducible.

AM Radio Diagnostics, Interference
1 Information and explanation Radio noise at 11-6 MPH on AM S80 Chassis - 049149 See SB 39-0010
General Static/crackling noise (helicopter noise) S80 Chassis - 116810
UEM processor sound being heard in the audio system. UEM has a long ground wire which in some cases can act as an antenna. Replace the interiorlight housing complete (see step 2). Static noise - Volvo navigation system (VNS) V70 Chassis no. 000257-
If a seek lest gives the same number of clearly audible AM stations but a "static" sound is heard while using the Volvo Navigation System (VNS) installa grounded shield on the VNS wiring and connector (see step 2). The amount of static can depend on the contrast level of the screen being viewed. A pulsing, buzzing noise may be heard from the radio on AM frequency if seat heater is activated. As a service solution an adapter cable with a 180-Ohmresistor must be connected in series to control module for the seat healer. One adapter cable must be used for each seat (see step 7-10). AM static due to insufficient rear seat ground Install the ground lead see step 11-17. Ticking radio interference sounds of approximately one second interval might appear on the AM band due to insufficient grounding of the rear plate of

the back seat. This radio interference could be reduced if the framework of the seat back is given an improved grounding to the car body. Replacing the interior light housing (Chassis no. see step 1, "Information and explanation")
2
Interior light housing, replacing Replacing the interior light housing, see VADIS Repair and Installation Function group 35 Courtesy lighting and the upper electronic module. Install the:
- ground wire (1) from the service kit to the new interior light housing
- new interior light housing in the car
Note
Make sure that the ground wire does not get pinched between the clip and the ceiling (see arrows)
Install grounded shield on VNS connector and wiring (Chassis no., see step 1, "Information and explanation")
3 Grounded shield, installing Remove the:
- rear left panel cover and the cargo compartment left panel, see VADIS
