The well-insulated soft-top with its electrically heated glass rear window makes the Volvo C70 a car for all seasons.

When the top is raised, the ECC (Electronic
Climate Control) maintains the set temperature
inside the car – however much the temperature
outside fluctuates. The driver and front-seat
passenger can regulate the temperature indi­vidually for each side.

At the touch of a button, the top is raised

or lowered in less than thirty seconds. There

lowered, the top is recessed beneath a hatch
in the body and the ECC is automatically
switched off.

All the side windows are electrically powered
and can be raised or lowered simultaneously.
To further refine comfort in the front seats while
still being able to enjoy the open air, simply add

Volvo’s patented rear suspension system,
Delta-link, provides both firm road grip and
supple ride comfort. The rear axle allows the
rear wheels to turn slightly together with
the front wheels when entering a curve. The
result is quick steering response and better
control over the car throughout the curve.

When it’s needed, you have access to a
powerful anti-lock braking system with EBD
(Electronic Brake Distribution). Braking
power is automatically distributed between
the front and rear brakes for effective, secure
braking in all situations.

You can fully enjoy the response from an
alert chassis and a smooth five-cylinder
turbocharged petrol engine producing
245 bhp, 200 bhp or 163 bhp. The snappy
five-speed manual gearbox is part of the
inspiration in the Volvo C70. If you prefer a
more relaxed driving style, you can specify
the crisp five-speed adaptive automatic
transmission that monitors your driving style
and tailors its gearchanges accordingly.

If you end up in a situation in which the car is about to roll over, the safety hoops concealed in the bodywork at
the rear of the car are activated within a fraction of a second. At the same time, the safety belt pre-tensioners
are activated in all four seats, helping to keep you and your passengers restrained in the seats.

WHIPS (Whiplash Protection System) is activated if
the car is hit from behind with sufficient force. A wire­braced frame supports the back and helps prevent the
occupant from being pressed too deeply into the back­rest.

The entire backrest moves rearward to help prevent the
occupant from being thrown forward by the crash forces.
At the same time, the upper part of the backrest moves
up and ahead to assist in reducing the strain on the
back and neck.

When the entire back has been securely cradled by
the backrest, the backrest tips backwards to help
reduce the force that would otherwise throw the head
forward.

AIRBAGS

The driver and passenger* airbags
interact with the front safety belts,
pre-tensioners and force limiters to

WHIPS helps reduce the risk of
whiplash injury by cradling the spine
and neck in a controlled way if the car
is hit from behind at low speeds. It is
built into the front seats and activated
by a sufficiently severe impact.

ROPS
(ROLL-OVER PROTECTION SYSTEM)

If the car rolls over, an electronic sensor
triggers the safety hoops concealed in
the rear bodywork along with the safety
belt pre-tensioners for all four seats.
The rear safety hoops act together with
the sturdily reinforced windscreen frame
to serve as a roll-over cage.

SAFETY CAGE

The sturdy safety cage surrounds all
the car’s occupants and is dimensioned
to help withstand severe crash forces.

FUEL ECONOMY AND EMISSIONS

High-efficiency turbo engines with sophistic­ated electronic engine management minimise
fuel consumption and thus also emissions of
carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. Advanced
engine emission control technology eliminates
95-98 percent of carbon monoxide, hydrocar­bons and nitrogen oxides from the exhaust
gases.

CLEAN ALL ITS LIFE

In the Volvo C70, environmental care is built
in from the initial design and engineering
stages. All plastic components that weigh more
than 50 g are marked to facilitate sorting and
recycling. In total, about 85 percent of the car
is recyclable. To this can be added Volvo Cars’
environmental product declaration (EPD) – a
tool that helps you choose a Volvo model on
the basis of its overall environmental perform­ance throughout its lifetime. The environmental

This turbocharged in-line five-cylinder 2.3-litre petrol
engine yields very high torque over most of the engine
speed range. The engine pumps out its full torque
potential (330 Nm) from 2400 revs a minute and takes
the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds with a manual
gearbox. The high turbo boost pressure means extra
power at high revs – this is an engine that inspires
sporty driving.

FIVE-CYLINDER PETROL ENGINE WITH
LIGHT-PRESSURE TURBO

VOLVO C70 2.4T (200 bhp)

The five-cylinder light-pressure turbo engine is both
relaxed and powerful. You have access to the engine’s
full power (230 Nm or 285 Nm) from as little as 1800
revs a minute – so you can move off smartly and seldom
need to change down when overtaking, for instance.
The lower charge-air pressure at high engine speeds
means acceleration is a little gentler, but still very power­ful. You accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds
(2.0T) or 8.5 seconds (2.4T) with a manual gearbox.

If you prefer a more involving driving style, you will enjoy
the smooth and crisp five-speed all-synchromesh manual
gearbox which is standard in the Volvo C70.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

The responsive five-speed adaptive automatic adjusts
gearshifting patterns to suit the individual driver.
A special Winter mode makes it easier to get moving
– and keep moving – on slippery roads.

STC ANTI-SPIN SYSTEM

STC (Stability and Traction Control) enhances driving
stability on twisting roads and slippery surfaces. If one
or both drive wheels start to spin, torque is restricted
instantaneously so that the wheel can regain its grip.
STC also makes sure that you can get moving more
easily if you have to start off on a slippery surface.
It also gives enhanced stability when cornering and
reduces understeer when accelerating out of a curve.
The system works at all speeds – via the braking
system at low speeds, and by reducing the engine
torque at higher speeds.

LOWERED CHASSIS

The Volvo C70 focuses primarily on comfort, but is also
available with a lowered chassis (Low Dynamic) with
stiffer suspension for those who give greater priority to
sporty driving than to comfort.

DOLBY SURROUND PRO LOGIC®*

The SC-901 radio with Dolby Surround Pro Logic® has a digital sound
processor and a centre loudspeaker that recreate the authentic sound
from the original recording, allowing you and your front seat passenger to
perceive the music in an equally authentic way. The system creates a clear,
open and natural three-dimensional sound profile with a distinct sense of
presence. The audio experience is unique in the car world, it’s like having
the orchestra along with you in the car. Cannot be combined with the RTI

TRIP COMPUTER

Helps you to drive more economically. It shows
the current and average fuel consumption, how
far the fuel will take you, the ambient temperature,
average speed and how far you have driven.

POWER FRONT SEATS

Make it particularly easy to adjust the seating
position. The driver’s and front passenger’s
seats are available with a memory function for
three separate settings – highly practical when
taking turns at the wheel. And in order to further
aid entry convenience in the rear, the front seats
are pushed forward by an electric motor.

INTEGRATED CUPHOLDER

Keeps refreshments within convenient reach of

REMOTE-CONTROLLED ALARM

Uses the same remote control as the central
locking system. The alarm is triggered if anybody

CHILD-SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Small children up to the age of three ride most
safely if they face the rear. Volvo’s rearward­facing child safety seats have been developed
to help provide maximum protection in a wide
range of collisions. The ISOFIX attachment
system provides safe and convenient installation
in the rear seat and the front passenger seat if
the airbag is removed. Larger children should be
seated on a booster cushion and secured with
the safety belt.

The specially-designed aluminium load rack is a convenient way to expand
