100-240 V/AC plug-in charger 6-8 cells 600 mA
Item-No. 23 78 40
Intended Use
The product is intended for charging a Ni-Cd/NiMH battery pack with 6 - 8 cells. The connection is made by
a Tamiya® connector system. The charger is equipped with a minus delta V cut-out and a safety timer. This
enables a reliable and safe charging process.
Batteries (zinc-carbon, alkaline, etc.) or rechargeable battery types (lead, Li-ion, etc.) are not to be connected
and recharged.
Only use the charger on standard household AC voltages 100 - 240 V/AC. The house icon on the housing
indicates that it is only to be used in dry indoor rooms.
The plug-in charger is secured against overloading and short-circuiting. Pay attention to the polarity on the
charger’s connector!
Do not use under adverse ambient conditions.
Unfavourable ambient conditions are:
- Damp or excess air humidity.
- Dust and flammable gases, vapours or solvent,
- strong vibrations.
Any use other than described above is not permitted and can damage the product. Furthermore there are
dangers such as fire, short-circuit and electric shock.
No part of the product may be modified or converted!
The safety instructions are to be observed without fail!
Safety Instructions
Please read all of the operating instructions before using the product for the first time;
they contain important information about the correct operation.
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe these
safety instructions! We do not assume any liability for any consequential damage!
Nor do we assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by improper
use or non-compliance with the safety instructions! The warranty will be void in such
cases!
The unauthorized conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible because of safety and approval reasons (CE).
Do not leave the charger, and the rechargeable batteries that are connected to it, unattended while in
operation.
To ensure safe operation, the user must follow the safety instructions and warning notices that are included
in these operating instructions.
The construction complies with safety class II (double and strengthened insulation). Make sure that the
insulation (of the casing or the output cable) is not damaged or missing. Never touch the device with wet or
moist hands. Risk of electric shock!
Chargers and accessories should be kept away from children! It is not a toy.
On industrial sites, the accident prevention regulations of the association of the industrial workers’ society for
electrical equipment and utilities must be followed.
In schools, training centres, hobby and self-help groups, the use of chargers and accessories must be super-
vised by trained personnel in a responsible manner.
Avoid use during unfavourable ambient conditions. This damages the sensitive electronics inside the charger
and thereby could lead to danger to life for the user. Unfavourable ambient conditions are: excessive humidity
(> 75 % rel. humidity, condensation), moisture, dust and flammable gases, vapours or solvents, petrol, high
ambient temperatures (> approx. +35°C).
When charging rechargeable batteries, always observe the charging instructions provided by the
manufacturer of the batteries concerned.
Improper handling (incorrect rechargeable battery type or incorrect polarity) can overload or damage the
charger. In the worst case, the battery can explode and thereby cause serious damage.
Keep transmitters (mobile phones, transmitters for models, etc.) away from the charger because the resulting
radio transmission can disturb the charging process or damage the charger and thereby also the rechargeable battery.
Never connect the charger to the mains voltage immediately after it has been taken from a cold room into a
warm room. The condensation which forms can damage the device. Allow the device to reach room temperature before switching it on.
If you have a reason to believe that the device can no longer be operated safely, disconnect it immediately
and secure it against being operated unintentionally.
It can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if:
- the device is visibly damaged,
- the device no longer works and
- the device was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- it has been subjected to considerable stress in transit.
A triangle containing an exclamation mark indicates important information in these operating
instructions which is to be observed without fail.
☞
The “hand” symbol indicates special information and advice on using the device.
Connection /Start-up / Charging
Connect the rechargeable battery pack to the charger’s connector.
Always pay attention to the polarity when connecting.
Then connect the charger to a mains socket (100 - 240V/AC). The display will flash briefly once and the
charging process starts.
If the rechargeable battery pack has the correct polarity, is not defective (high-resistance/disconnected) and
connected to the mains supply, it starts to charge. The charging process starts automatically.
The charger is equipped with a „minus Delta V“ cut-off, which automatically terminates the charging process
when the charge end voltage is reached. A green light indicates that the charging process is complete. The
charger switches to the trickle charging mode.
Stop the charging process immediately. Unplug the charger from the mains socket and then remove the
rechargeable batteries from the device. To remove the rechargeable battery, press the latch hook and pull
the connector system in two.
☞
For NiCd rechargeable batteries, it is recommended that the battery pack is only
connected if it is discharged, to ensure correct operation even after a long time (memory
effect). Apart from this, rechargeable batteries should be discharged / charged once a
month (self-discharge, capacity loss).
While charging, it is perfectly normal for the battery pack to become „slightly“ warm.
Never cover the charger, to avoid possible damage due to overheating.
Status Indicator
An indicator lamp shows the current device state. The following displays are possible:
Display Status
1x flash Charger performs a short self-test after it is plugged in.
Off No rechargeable battery connected, no voltage
Red Charging in process
Green Charging process complete, the rechargeable battery can be removed
Flashing red Rechargeable battery is defective or deep discharged
Disposal
Electronic products are raw material and do not belong in the household waste. When the
device has reached the end of its service life, please dispose of it, according to the current
statutory requirements, at your local collecting site. Disposal in the domestic waste is not permitted!
Disposal of used batteries/rechargeable batteries!
As a consumer you are required (Battery Ordinance) to responsibly dispose of all used batteries and rechargeable batteries; it is forbidden to throw them away with the normal household waste!
Contaminated batteries/rechargeable batteries are labelled with these symbols to indicate that
disposal in domestic waste is forbidden. The symbols for the relevant heavy metals are: Cd =
Cadmium, Hg = Mercury, Pb = Lead. You can dispose of your used batteries free of charge at
your community’s collection point or any place where batteries are sold!
You thus fulfil the legal requirements and make your contribution to protecting the environment!
