Estab lis h
Telephone Line
Connections
The Omn i 3200 SE/3210SE terminal can be connected to a telephone line in one of two ways: direct or pass-through. The relative advantages and disadvantages of thes e t w o t y pes of tel ephone c onnections ar e described below.
Direct Connection
Connec t the tele phone c ord to the communication port on t he ter m inal, then r oute it directly to a t elephone w all jack (see F igure 5). With a direct connection, the phone line is dedicated to the terminal, making it possible to perform an electronic trans action at any ti m e.
Figure 5 Direct Connection
Pass-Through
Connection
Connec t the telephon e c ord to the Te ls et port on the ter m inal, then rout e it to the RJ-11 jack on a standard telephone (see Figure 6). With a pass-through connection, the telephone can be used when the terminal is not attempting to perform a tra ns action.
WARNING
Do not connect the term inal to the power supply until all the peripherals are
attached.
CAUTION
Do not string the telephone cord across a walkway or place it so as to interfere in
high-traf fic areas.
To reduce th e ris k of fi re, us e only No. 26 AWG or larg er t elecomm unication l ine
cord.

A pass-through tele phone line c onnection c an save the cos t of an addition al dedicate d or leased lin e, but there are s ev eral disad v antages to using a pass through c onnection:
Normal calls cannot be made while the terminal is processing a transaction, or
when a remote host computer is dialing in to the terminal.
Lift in g the tel e phon e handse t du r ing a tra nsa ct io n ca n di sr upt th e audi bl e da ta
carrier signal and cause the terminal transaction to fail.
Optional Swivel
Stand
VeriFone produce s an optional sw iv el stand for O m ni 3200SE/3210SE terminals Some terminals come with the swivel stand already attached, with two preinstalled “pigtail” cables to allow convenient connection of the power cable and telephone line cord without removing the swivel stand.
To set up a direct connection using the pigtail cable:
Insert the co nnector on one end of the t elephone line cord into t he modula r
RJ-11 fem ale jack on th e end of the tel ephone line pigtail.
Insert the connector on the other end of the cord into a nearby RJ-11
telephone wall jack .
To configure a pass-through connection for a terminal with attached swivel
stand, the stand must be removed, then re-attached. The procedure for removing and reattaching the swivel stand is described in the

Install Paper
Roll
A fast, quiet thermal printer is built-in to the Omni 3200SE/3210SE termina l . Before processing transactions that require a receipt or record, you
must
install a
roll of thermal-sensit iv e paper in the printer.

NSTALLATION GUIDE 15
The Omn i 3200 SE/3210SE printer uses a roll of single-ply, thermal-sensitive paper 58 millime t ers (2.25 inches ) w ide and approximate ly 25-33 meters (82-108 fe et ) long.
To Install a Paper Roll
1 Turn on the terminal. The LED indicat or will blin k on and off, indica ting that the
printer needs paper.

32 INSTALLATION GUIDE
Terminal Does
Not Dial Ou t
If the terminal does not dial out:
Check t he tele phone line conne c t ions.
Check that the telephone line is working by plugging it into a working
telephone and listening for a dia l to ne.
Replace the telephone cord that connects the terminal with a cord you know is
