Looking After Your Vax
IMPORTANT: The Vax VS-022 is a very
powerful vacuum cleaner. It will collect an extraordinary amount of dust and dirt, especially during the first few applications of use, which will quickly fill a paper dust bag or block the pores of a cloth dust bag. Excessive dust and dirt will also contaminate the motor protection and air outlet filters. Any of these conditions usually result in a noticeable drop-off in suction, or a possible motor shut down due to thermostat activation. On such occasions, it will be necessary to replace the paper dust bag or wash and thoroughly dry a cloth dust bag before reusing, and renew all filters to regain peak suction and performance.

Assembling Your Vax
Fig.1 The telescopic extension tubes can be
lengthened by pressing the button & pulling the tubes apart.
Attach the required cleaning tool to the
extension tube.
Fig.2 To attach the flexible hose to the
vacuum cleaner, push the connecting end of the flexible hose into the attachment point on the vacuum cleaner.
Connect the extension tube to the
flexible suction hose.
Your VS-022 has been equipped with an easy access storage system. To assemble, follow instructions:
Fig.3 The tool storage
system fixing bracket is already in place on the extension tube. Insert the holding tubes as shown until the tubes click into place.
Fig.4 Place the dusting brush (A) upholstery
brush (B) and crevice tool (C) on the tubes as shown.
Carpet and Hard Floor Cleaning Tool
Fig.5 Hard floor position (tiles, vinyl, parquet
floors, etc.) - The cleaning tool brush must be in the lower position. Press on the rocker switch to lower it.
Fig.6 Carpet or rug position - The cleaning
tool brush should be raised. Press the rocker switch to retract the brush.
HEPA Filter
Fig.16 The HEPA filter is also housed in the
dust bag compartment above and behind the motor protection filter as shown in fig.16. Remove dirty filter assembly from machine and dispose of filter medium. Replace with new filter medium. Return filter assembly to your VS-022.
We recommend replacing the air outlet filters every 4-6 months; after the bag has been emptied 5 times; when appearance is soiled; or a loss of suction is experienced (whichever is sooner).
ATTENTION: Do not use the vacuum cleaner without all filters installed.
Dust Bag Indicator
Fig.17 When the indicator tur ns red or
when the suction power reduces substantially, you should empty or replace the dust bag.
Fig.18 When the bag is not full the indicator
will show blue.
ATTENTION: If after emptying the dust bag, the indicator stays red, this could be for several reasons:
• Suction passages may be blocked check flexible hose and extension tubes, suction inlet, floor brushes and nozzles for obstruction.
• Check motor protection filter
• Check to see if air outlet filter is dirty
Check carefully for the cause and correct so that the vacuum cleaner can function normally.
Do not operate the vacuum cleaner with the indicator on red, as this could cause irreparable motor damage.

How to Use Your Vax
Fully extend the mains cable but not beyond the yellow mark and plug it into a standard domestic outlet.
Set the power control button to min. position.
Fig.7 Press the foot pedal to start the vacuum
cleaner. Slide the power control button to the desired setting. To stop it press the foot pedal again.
Cord Rewind
Fig.8 Press the foot pedal to recoil the power
lead. To rewind the power cord,
press the cord rewind button and with one hand guide the power cord through palm. Rewind 1-11/2 metres of cord at a time. This will prevent the cord from whipping, which could cause damage or injury.
Fig.9 The hose grip has an air regulator
which allows further control of suction power. To reduce suction power, slide regulator to open position.
Fig.10 If you wish to pause briefly during
vacuuming i.e. to move a piece of furniture or a rug, use the special parking position on your vacuum cleaner as shown. Slide the hook attached to the large cleaning tool into the slot on the rear of the appliance.
4 5
Fig.11 & 12 You can move or store your
appliance in a vertical position by sliding the hook on extension tube into the clip on the underside of the appliance. This practical system allows you to carry the vacuum cleaner around in one hand and to store it in the minimum of space.
Caring For Your Vax
Your appliance is equipped with a dust bag. If you notice that the vacuum cleaner seems to be less efficient that usual, check the dust indicator by selecting the maximum power and lifting the cleaner tool off the floor. If it turns red, empty or change the dust bag.
To Empty the Dust Bag
Fig.13 Turn off the appliance and unplug it.
Lift up the catch to raise the cover and gain access to the dust bag compartment. Remove the bag by pulling free of the holder.
Fig.14a The clip on the bag can then be
removed as shown.
Fig.14 Shake the dust bag over a bin so
that the dirt can be removed. Once empty, replace clip and re-assemble
in cleaner. If a disposable bag is used, simply remove and replace with a new bag.
Changing the Filters
Motor Protection Filter
Fig.15 This filter protects the motor from
dust and is located in the dust bag compartment.
To replace filter, remove the filter grill,
remove the motor protection filter and reinstall with a new motor protection filter along with the existing filter grill.
We recommend changing this filter
after 5 bag changes or when the filter appears soiled.
