Please read carefully before using your VS-21. Always fully extend mains cable before use.
Important information - Save these instructions
When using electrical appliances, in order to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, basic safety pr ecautions should be followed, including the following:-
• Read all instructions carefully, even if you are familiar with the appliance.
• To protect against the risk of electric shock DO NOT IMMERSE the appliance, cordset or plug in water or other liquid.
• Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. Never leave an appliance unattended when in use.
• Switch off and remove the plug from the power outlet when not in use and before assembling or disassembling parts.
• Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, after the appliance malfunctions, or is dropped/damaged in any manner.
• The use of attachments or accessories sold by other manufacturers is not recommended.
• Do not operate or place any part of this appliance on or near any hot surfaces.
• Do not abuse the cord. Never carry the appliance by the cord or yank it from the power outlet; instead, grasp the plug and pull to disconnect.
• This product is intended for internal household use only.
• Do not attempt to repair the appliance yourself.
• Do not suck up inflammable liquids such as cleaning fluids, gasoline, etc, or their vapours.
• Do not vacuum hard, sharp or over-large objects, matches, hot ashes, cigarette butts or similar materials.
• Do not use the vacuum cleaner without all filters in place.
• Do not use the cleaner if there is any obstruction in its passages, for this may dangerously overheat the motor.
• Do replace the filters after picking up fine dust such as cement, very fine sand, flour etc.
• To clean, wipe exterior with a cloth.

Assembling the appliance
Fig. 1 Assemble tubes as fig.1 and attach to the handle/flexible hose Fig.1a Slide the tool holding bracket over the end of the tube and tighten with a screw driver. Vax recommends
positioning the bracket approx 16cm from the tube base as illustrated in fig. 1a. This allows the bracket to be used in the tool park function (explained in fig’s 11 and 12).

Fully extend the mains cable and plug it into a standard domestic outlet.

Using the tools
Fig. 9 The combination tool is stored on the cleaning tubes (fig. 9a). The tool is designed for use as a crevice tool
and a dusting brush. Simply fit to the end of the tubes or directly onto the end of the flexible hose handle. For dusting, rotate the brush tool and click into place (fig. 9b). To clean into awkward places such as behind radiators and skirting boards, simply rotate the other way (fig. 9c).

Fig. 10 If you wish to pause briefly during vacuuming i.e. to move a piece of furniture or a rug, use the special
parking position on your vacuum cleaner. Slide the hook attached to the floor cleaning tool into the slot on the rear of the appliance. When you have finished vacuuming press the power button to stop the appliance then unplug it at the mains and press the cable rewind button to automatically rewind the cable.

bracket on the extension tube into the clip on the underside of the appliance. This practical system allows you to store it away in the minimum of space.

Your appliance is bagless. If you notice that the vacuum cleaner seems to be less efficient than usual, check to see if the dust vessel needs emptying.
To empty the dust vessel
Turn off the appliance and unplug it. Press the vessel release button on the handle (fig. 13) and carefully remove the vessel. Grasp the filter and
remove. Empty the vessel into a bin and replace the filter (fig. 14). To replace the vessel onto the vacuum cleaner, locate the clip at the base of the vessel with the one on the machine body , line up the vessel handle with the handle on the machine then click into place.

To change the filters
There are three types of filter on your VS-21. V ax r ecommends changing all filters every 6 months or when a loss of suction is experienced.
1. Air outlet filters

replace the filter with a new one.
2. Motor protection filter

ones and re-assemble.

3. Dust vessel filter
Fig. 17 Disconnect dust vessel from vacuum. Remove the filter and rubber seal assembly from the holding frame and
replace with a new filter.
Attention: Do not use the vacuum cleaner without the dust vessel filter, motor protection filter or air outlet filter.
