Power LEDs: The orange-yellow Power LED flashes once per second to indicate the
system is functioning properly.
Status LED: This LED should only be lighted if the broadband router is connected.
WAN LED: The green WAN port LED flashes when the WAN port is sending or receiving
data.
LAN Port LED: This green LED is always lighted when each specific LAN port is in use.
Uplink Port: The Uplink port is used to attach any additional hubs to the broadband router
in order to expand the Local Area Network (LAN).
LAN Ports 1-4: The LAN ports are used to connect devices to the local area network. The
green Link/Act LEDs flash when the specific LAN port is sending or receiving data. The
green 10/100 LEDs are lighted to indicate a speed of 100 Mbps and unlighted to indicate a
speed of 10 Mbps.
Note: When an Ethernet cable is connected to the Uplink port, only LAN ports 2, 3, and 4
can be used to connect PCs to the local area network.
PRINTER: This parallel port is used to attach a printer to the local area network.
WAN: The RJ-45 WAN port is used to connect to a broadband modem or to an Ethernet
broadband router.
COM: This serial port can be used to connect an analog modem.
5VDC: This connection port is for the power supply of the broadband router.

Analog Modem
You can manually change the WAN type to use an analog modem
instead of a broadband connection. Perform the following steps to
configure the broadband router for an analog modem:
1. Detach the Ethernet cable from the broadband router. Connect the
modem cable to your analog modem and to the COM port on the
broadband router. Make sure the modem is powered on.
2. Go to the Configuration Utility and click Primary Setup. Click Change
and select the WAN type as Dialup Network. Enter the appropriate
information for your dial-up Internet service.
3. Click Save and reboot the broadband router. Click Dial-up to initiate
a dial-up session with your ISP. The peripheral status will display
whether or not the call was successful. If the settings are correct, the
analog modem can be used to connect to the Internet. If the settings
are not correct, you must enter in the correct values before the
modem can be used to connect to the Internet.

Troubleshooting
I can’t connect to the broadband router.
Possible Solution:
Make sure the broadband broadband router is properly installed, the LAN
connections are okay, and the power cord is plugged in.
Possible Solution:
Make sure that your PC and the broadband router are on the same
network. Initiate the DHCP function and retrieve the IP address
automatically.
Possible Solution:
Make sure that your PC is using an IP address that is within the default
range of 192.168.123.xxx. Make sure the address of the subnet mask is
5
255.255.255.0. To verify these settings, click Windows Start, Settings,
then Control Panel. Double-click the Network icon, select the TCP/IP
protocol for your network, and click Properties.
If you are still unable to connect to the broadband router, refer to the ping
procedure that follows.
I can’t access the Internet through the broadband router.
Possible Solution:
Make sure the network cable and the power cord are connected
correctly. Make sure the Ethernet cable is correctly connected to the PC
and to a LAN port on the broadband router.
You can also reset the modem by unplugging it for at least three seconds
then plugging it back in. If you are still unable to access the Internet,
refer to the ping procedure that follows.
My broadband router is not communicating with my
analog or ISDN modem.
Possible Solution:
Make sure the cables are all correctly installed. If this does not correct
the problem, open the Configuration Utility, click Toolbox, and then click
Reboot. This will restart the broadband router and then it should
communicate with your analog or ISDN modem.
I can’t access the Internet using an analog or ISDN
modem.
Possible Solution:
Make sure you do not have an Ethernet cable plugged into the WAN port
of the broadband router. You cannot have a modem cable and an
Ethernet cable connected at the same time.
I can’t access a printer or files that are being shared.
Possible Solution:
Check each PC and make sure that file and print sharing has been
enabled. Make sure you have the correct drivers for the printer loaded
onto each machine in the network that will use the printer.

Possible Solution:
Make sure the cables are all correctly installed. If this does not correct
the problem, open the Configuration Utility, click Toolbox, and then click
Reboot. This will restart the broadband router and then it should
communicate with your printer .
Troubleshooting Ping Procedure
If at any time during the ping procedure you do not receive a return
message for a successful ping, this means that the address you are
pinging has been changed and is causing a conflict. Check the address
in the configuration utility and make any necessary corrections using the
console mode. After you have made the corrections, continue with the
ping procedure.
Click Windows Start and then click Run. In the Run dialog box,
1.
Windows 95, 98, and Me users should type command and click OK.
Windows NT and 2000 users should type cmd and click OK.
Type Ping 127.0.0.1. This is your local host address and this will

ensure that the TCP/IP protocol is installed and functioning properly. If
you cannot complete this ping, disconnect the router and then repeat the
installation procedure.

is responding to requests. If you cannot complete this ping, make sure all
the cables are properly connected and that all the correct drivers are
installed.
Type Ping followed by your gateway address to check the
4.
communication with your gateway. The default gateway address is
192.168.123.254. This will ensure that you can connect to other
machines and can get to the broadband router. If you can establish
communication with the broadband router, you can access the
Administration page and configure the settings. If you cannot complete
this ping, make sure the power cord of the broadband router is plugged
in and that it is properly connected to your PC or Macintosh.
Type Ping followed by the outside Internet address of your
5.
broadband router. This is the address that is provided either by your ISP
or by the outside LAN. This procedure will ensure that your broadband
router is functioning properly and allowing traffic to pass through.
7
6. Type Ping followed by your known DNS server address. This will
allow you to resolve valid Internet host names to IP addresses and to
verify that you can access the Internet.
For more information about the broadband router, refer to the FAQ
section on the Installation CD.
