PATENTED, 2-STAGE, PRE-INTRUSION,
ELECTROMAGNETIC SHOCK SENSOR
This VS1000XR is equipped with a 2-stage, pre-intrusion, electromagnetic shock
sensor. If the vehicle is lightly tapped, the first stage sensor will cause the alarm
siren to "chirp." This feature provides a pre-intrusion warning to would-be thieves. If
a harder impact is made to the vehicle, the second stage sensor will activate the
alarm and sound the siren. .
NOTE: The alarm will not have this pre-intrusion feature if your alarm is
programmed to use current sensing.
ALARM DURATION, SIRENAND FLASHING LIGHT
If the alarm is triggered, it will sound for four 28-second cycles with a 1a-second
pause between cycles. For example, if a door opening is detected, the alarm will
automatically sound for 28 seconds. If the door has not been shut before the end of
the 28-second cycle, the alarm will continue to sound for three more cycles and then
stop sounding. During this time the lights will flash in 38-second cycles with no
pause. If any of the other sensors are triggered, or the same door is closed and then
reopened, the process will begin again.
FOUR-FUNCTION LED
The alarm brain's red LED has four useful functions:
. The RF transmitter-receiver can be tested by pressing the transmitter button. If
the alarm brain LED comes on, the transmitter-receiver is working properly.
. When in valet mode the LED will flash at intervals of 1.5 seconds on, 0.5 second
off. This alerts you to the fact that the alarm is currently off. It also gives the
appearance to would-be thieves that the alarm is armed.
. When the VS1000XR is fully armed, the LED will flash at intervals of 0.5 second
on, 1.5 seconds off, as a warning to would-be thieves that your vehicle is
protected by an alarm.
. When the VS1000XR is not armed nor in the valet mode, the LED will be off.
PASSIVE OR ACTIVE ARMING
.PASSIVE ARMING: The alarmwill automatically arm itself 15seconds
after turning off the ignitionkey and closing that lastopened door.
. ACTIVE ARMING: The alarm will only arm after pressingthe transmitter's
button#1 providedignition key is off and all doors are closed.
CHIRP DISABLE
Arming or disarming chirp confirmation can be turned off. However, the chirp disable
feature will not disable the pre-intrusion chirp and full siren blast.
. CHIRP CONFIRMATION
. NO CHIRP CONFIRMATION
PASSIVE OR MANUAL DOORLOCK SELECTION
(PASSIVE MODE ONLY)
. Auto
. Active Lock: The doorlocks will not lock unless the remote transmitter is used.
Lock: The doorlocks will lock each time the alarm rearms by itself automatically.

\{E. T. SWITCH & OPERATION CHART
Valet Mode is useful for unloading groceries, or servicing the car if passive arming is
being used. To activate the valet mode, turn the ignition key on and press the V.ET.
switch once. Now the alarm will not arm. If you wish to deactivate the valet mode,
turn the ignition on and press the V.ET. switch once. Now the alarm can be armed.
Emergency disarm is a back-up method of disarming the alarm in case the
transmitter is lost or stolen. To disarm the alarm, first open a door. The alarm will
begin to sound. Turn on the key and then press the V.ET. switch once. Now the
system is disarmed.
Temporary disarm can be used to temporarily disarm the alarm if it is pr09rammed
for passive armin9. This is useful for leaving the car for a short period of time such
as a stop at a gas station. To operate, turn off the ignition and press the V.ET.
switch once before opening any door. If you change your mind and wish to leave the
car for an extended time, press. the transmitter button to arm the alarm. The
temporary disarm feature is automatically disengaged once the ignition is turned on.

IMPORTANT
Installation of a sophisticated vehicle security system like the VS1 OOOXR is a very complicated
procedure. For best results, please talk to your UNIDEN dealer about professional installation.
NOTE: This alarm is designed to protect your entire car and its contents. But remember that
every car is different, and it may be necessary to add sensors or accessories not included with
this alarm system. Also, even though this alarm offers a high level of security and convenience,
the level of protection and the features your alarm offers depend on how it was installed.
Therefore, please ask your dealer to clearly explain the protection and features of your alarm
after installation.
The VS1 OOOXRalarm system contains many innovative features and unique functions. Please
read the operation manual carefully in order to understand all of the protection and convenience
features that are offered.

OPERATING THE VS1000XR
AUTOMATICDOORLOCK/UNLOCKANDFLASHINGLIGHTS
Your VS1000XR offers the convenience of automatically locking and unlocking your car's doors and
flashing the lights when the car is armed and disarmed. This may require the addition of certain
optional accessories, and you should discuss with your professional UNIDEN dealer about whether or
not you wish to have them installed with your alarm.
This manual assumes you are using the power door lock control and flashing light features of your
VS1000XR. If you decide not to use these features, just disregard any references to them.
ARMING THE VS1000XR
If active arming is selected, the alarm will arm instantly after pressing the transmitter's button #1. A
"CHIRP" will be heard and the parking lights will flash once after pressing transmitter's button #1, to
signify that the alarm is armed.
If passive arming is selected, the alarm will automatically arm itself 15 seconds after all doors are
closed. A "CHIRP" will be heard and the parking lights will flash once after the last door is closed, to
confirm that alarm is arming. During the delay period of 15 seconds, you can temporarily stop the
armingof VS1OOOXRsimplybyopeningadoor. This letsyoure-enterthe car withouthavingto first
disarm the alarm. When finished, close the door and the alarm will recommence arming.
In either case, if you do not hear a chirp or see the flashing of the parking lights, the alarm is
informing you that a door has not been closed properly and therefore the alarm won't arm. This
remarkable patented fail-safe feature stops you from walking away thinking your car is protected
when it is not. (Your VS1000XR professional installer can turn this "CHIRP" off, if you desire.)
---+-..
DISARMING THEVS1000XR
If passive arming is selected, first press the transmitter's button #1 (the alarm will chirp twice and
parking lights will flash twice). Then, open a door within 15 seconds (If a door is not opened within
15 seconds, the alarm will rearm itself). Finally, turn ON the ignition key to stop rearming. This
VS1000XR's patented 3-step disarming process prevents accidental disarming.
Ifactive arming is used, you can choose Auto rearm or Permanent disarm mode. 'n auto rearm
mode, the alarm will rearm itself unless a door is opened within 15 seconds after pressing the
transmitter's button #1. In Permanent disarm mode, pressing the transmitter's button #1 will
disarm the alarm permanently. In either mode, two chirps will be heard and two flashing parking
lights will be seen after pressing the transmitter's button #1.

EMERGENCY CALL FOR HELP (PANIC MODE)
You can sound the siren by turning off the ignition key and holding down the transmitter's button #1
for three seconds. The siren will begin to sound, chasing away would-be attackers and alerting
neighbors. However, the range of the transmitter may vary; see Trouble Shooting section, item 2.
QUIETMODE
Quiet Mode allows using the transmitter to temporarily arm or disarm the alarm without chirps.
Pressing transmitter's Button #2 and then, within 10 seconds, press transmitter's button #1, the alarm
will either arm or disarm without chirping for that one time only. When you arrive home at night and
try to arm your alarm without disturbing your neighbors, Quiet Mode lets you arm your car without the
awakening siren chirps.
SECOND CAR OPERATION (optional)
With this option, you can arm/disarm 2 cars using the same remote transmitter. Button #1 controls
the 1st car and button #2 controls the 2nd car.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
Your VS1000XR is an extremely reliable vehicle security system. In most cases, the
rare operational difficulties are the result of a weak transmitter battery or an open car
door. Below are guidelines to solving the majority of the problems you may
experience. If after following these guidelines you have not found the problem,
contact your professional installer immediately.
1. No siren sound or chirp when transmitter button is pressed for arming or
disarming:
a. Check if the Red wire has power, while the Black wire is properly grounded.
b. Replace the transmitter battery and check the clips for proper polarity.
c. Check that all doors are closed.
2. Transmitter works in some areas and not in other areas:
This is probably due to excess RF activity in that area (usually just a short time
and only while you are in that area, depending on the type of the activity). It is
only temporary and won't affect the alarm in other areas.
3. Alarm sounds for no apparent reason:
Be sure that the transmitter button is not being held down too long, or something
in your pocket or purse is not pressing against the transmitter button. The
receiver may also be picking up interference from a nearby airport or military base,
Iow-flying plane or other sources. Such interference is temporary.
4. Alarm does not arm manually or automatically, but the doors will lock/unlock
when the transmitter is pressed. When ignition is off, LED has a long flash
(1.5 sec. on, 0.5 sec. off). When ignition is on, LED is off. -
A. The alarm has been accidentally put into valet mode.
B. Turn ignition on, press the V.E.T. switch once, then turn ignition off. Alarm can
now be armed.
NOTE 1: If the alarm still does not function properly after checking the V.E.T.
switch, consult the UNIDEN dealer where you purchased the product for
further advise.
NOTE 2: Under no circumstances should you yourself make any repairs or
adjustments to any component of the transmitter or receiver.
Unauthorized repairs or adjustments to any components will void the
warranty. However, you may change the transmitter battery by yourself, if
needed, as shown below.
CHANGING THE TRANSMITTER BATTERY
1. Unscrew the small screw from the transmitter's back.
2. Replace the battery. MAKE SURE THE POSITIVE AND
NEGATIVE BATTERY ENDS CORRESPOND CORRECTLY
TO THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE BATTERY CLIPS.
3. Place back the front cover, taking care not ~obreak
the LED.
4. Place back the screw, turning it in tight enough
to hold the case together, but not so tight that
the case cracks.
