OPERATION
Marking Out of Hinge
n Adjust size of door to suit door opening.
n Lay door down on its edge with the edge that
requires the hinges to be fitted uppermost.
Hold the door in this position using a block and
wedge or clamping work bench.
n Measure down from top of door 150mm and
mark with a pencil. This is the top of the top
hinge.
n Measure up from bottom of door frame 230mm.
This is the bottom of the bottom hinge.
If a middle hinge is required position this in the
middle.
152mm
(6”)
n Place hinge on edge of door, ensuring it is on
the correct side. The knuckle should overhang.
n Draw around hinge. Repeat for other hinges.
230mm
(9”)
n Measure 9mm from each side and draw a
line. This line is used to position the template,
allowing for the offset between cutter and guide
bush.
Setting up of Butt Hinge
Template
n Make a batten 44mm wide x 34mm thick x
450mm long.
n Drill two 2mm diameter holes in the centre of
the batten at 174mm centre to centre.
n Fix the batten to template frame slots using the
pan head screws supplied and using a No. 2
®
screwdriver. Do not tighten.
Pozi
n Fit the chosen hinge template into the frame
and line up template to the pencil lines.

Safety Points
1. Disconnect power tool and attachment from power supply
when not in use, before servicing, when making adjustments
and when changing accessories such as cutters. Ensure
switch is in “off” position and cutter has stopped rotating.
2. Read and understand instructions supplied with power tool,
attachment and cutter.
3. Current Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for eye, ear
and respiratory protection must be worn. Keep hands, hair
and clothes clear of the cutter.
4. Before each use check cutter is sharp and free from damage.
Do not use if cutter is dull, broken or cracked or if any
damage is noticeable or suspected.
5. The maximum speed (nmax) marked on tool or in instructions
or on packaging shall not be exceeded. Where stated, the
speed range should be adhered to.
6. Insert the shank into the router collet at least all the way to
the marked line indicated on the shank. This ensures at least
3/4 of shank length is held in collet. Ensure clamping surfaces
are clean.
7. Check all fixing and fastening nuts, bolts and screws on
power tool, attachment and cutting tools are correctly
assembled, tight and to correct torque setting before use.
8. Ensure all visors, guards and dust extraction is fitted.
9. The direction of routing must always be opposite to the
cutter’s direction of rotation.
10. Do not switch power tool on with the cutter touching the
workpiece.
11. Trial cuts should be made in waste material before starting
any project.
12. Repair of tools is only allowed according to tool
manufacturers instructions.
13. Do not take deep cuts in one pass, take shallow passes to
reduce the side load applied to the cutter.

throughout its length.
n Tighten up the pan head screws to secure the
batten at this position.

position and that the batten is positioned
properly.
n Once the position is correct, using the two
countersunk holes as a guide drill two 2mm
diameter holes into the batten.

countersunk holes in the template frame to
secure the batten properly.

Setting up of Router
n Fit a 30mm guide bush to the router.
A universal sub-base Ref. UNIBASE may be
required for some makes and models of router.
n Fit the 12mm diameter cutter into the router
collet.
n Set depth stop to limit the depth of cut, this
can be achieved by placing the router onto the
template, and plunging door until the cutter
touches the work piece. Then place the butt
hinge onto the turret stop and lower depth stop
until it touches the hinge and then lock knob.
n Release router plunge. The depth stop is now
set to the hinge thickness.
Ensure working position is comfortable,
especially when setting up and routing.
Ensure door is clamped properly.
Ensure all fixing screws are tight and do not
foul the router.
Routing the Hinge Recess in
the Door Edge
n Place router with guide bush fitted into chosen
template in frame, switch on router and plunge
to depth. Rout in a clockwise direction until
the hinge recess is created.
n Release plunge and switch off router.
Check recess is correct.
Ensure working position is comfortable,
especially when setting up the jig and
routing a hinge recess in a door. Ensure
door is clamped properly.
n Release template and frame assembly and
repeat operation for the other hinge recess
positions.
n Use either a chisel or corner chisel to square
the rounded corners of the face plate. Check
fit of hinge.
n Fit the hinges to the door using the correct
screws supplied with the hinges.
Door Frame
This template can only be used with frames
or linings with removable stops and architrave.
n With the door prepared to fit the opening
including a sufficient gap and with the
hinges fitted place in frame or lining.
n Leave a 2mm clearance between top of
door and frame.
n Mark the hinge positions onto frame.
n Place the jig in position and allow 9mm
all the way round.
n Secure with clamps or screws.
n Repeat routing procedure as before.
Extra care must be taken as the router
will be held on its side.
n Fit hinges.
After use of the template, keep batten fitted
and store template properly.
