LETTERBOX JIG
REF. LB/JIG
Thank you for purchasing this Trend Letterbox Jig.
The Letterbox Jig requires the use of a heavy duty
router with a 12.7mm (1/2”) capacity collet. The
router must be fitted with a 30mm guide bush,
with a 10mm spigot Ref. GB30/A.
A 12.7mm (1/2”) diameter cutter with a 50mm (2")
cut length should be chosen. A base plate Ref.
GB/5 may be required for certain routers.
Setting up the Jig
To set the jig, loosen the two adjusting screws so
that the sections will slide. Upturn your letterbox
and lay the jig over it. Adjust the jig so that the lip
edge is flush with the letterbox aperture required
to be cut out. Now tighten the two screws and the
jig is ready for fastening to the door.
Marking out & fastening to the Door
Mark out the position on the door of the letterbox
using centre lines. Centre the jig on those lines
and then fasten the jig to the door using two No.6
wood screws. (These holes will not be seen when
the letterbox is fastened to the door).
Cutting the Aperture
Cut through the door in approximately 12mm
depths of cuts, at a time, so an average door will
require 3 stages to cut through. Rout in the
direction shown in diagram.
Always ‘plunge cut’ (to 12mm depth) in the centre
as shown, before routing from the template. If a
rebate needs to be cut to take the spring and rod
of the letterbox, slacken the two adjustment
screws and remove the top screw. Open out jig by
sliding top section up the required amount i.e.
12mm rebate. Then tighten up adjustment screws
and refasten wood screw.

Safety Steps
1. Always wear eye protection such as
goggles, ear protection and use
effective respiratory protection.
2. Before making adjustments to the
router, like changing the cutter, make
sure the power is isolated correctly.
3. Before re-connecting to the mains
supply, make sure the power switch
on the router is in the ‘off’ position.
4. Do not switch on the router with the
cutter in contact with the workpiece.
5. Before making adjustments always
allow the cutter to stop rotating.
6. When routing keep your hands, hair
and clothing clear of the cutter.
7. Make sure you follow the instructions
which came with your router.
8. Ensure all visors, guards and dust
extraction are fitted.
9. Trial cuts should be made in waste
material before starting any project.
