ASSEMBLY
Line-up Procedure
I The 16mm diameter guide bush is fitted
into the recess of the sub-base and the two
countersunk screws are used to secure it
in position.
I With the router held inverted, the suitable
size line-up pin is slid into the collet. The
router is then plunged to a reasonable
working depth to allow the line-up pin to
protrude through the router base.
I The sub-base fitted with the guide bush is
then slid down the line-up pin. The subbase is turned until the counterbored holes
are aligned with the fixing holes in the base
of the router.
I With the screws supplied, secure the sub-
base to the router, and then remove the
line-up pin, and guide bush.
I The required guide bush diameter can then
be fitted as required.
Trend guide bushes are available in a variety
of sizes ranging from 7.74mm to 40mm
diameter. Metric and imperial plastic guide
bush sets are also available.
With some makes of router, it may not be
possible to drill the sub-base to allow direct
fixing. If this is the case, the sub-base will be
supplied with two M6 pan head screws, and
will require alternative fitment.

Alternative Fixing Methods
1. If the router base will accept a nut and bolt
in the position of the drilled sub-base
holes, centralise the sub-base on the lineup pin, mark hole position through it, and
drill out the router base.
2. If the router base is made from aluminium
or plastic with a thickness of 6.35mm (1/4")
or more, an M6 threaded hole can be
tapped in. The position for tapping the
holes, should be marked through the subbase after centralising it.
3. Should there be no fixing points and bolt
fixing is not possible or desired, doublesided tape (Ref. DS/TAPE) can be liberally
applied on the sub-base can be used to
hold it in position. Tight clamping is needed
to make sure tape is securely mated.
Periodically check sub-base is concentric
to collet and reset if necessary.
OPERATION
Routing with a Template
The guide bush is used in conjunction with a
template when the routing operation is
repetitive or the workpiece is complex in
shape. The template is fixed to the upper
surface of the workpiece. A cutter is chosen
with a diameter which will pass through the
centre of the bush leaving enough clearance.
The cutter can be straight or shaped. The
router can then be guided around the template
so that the shape of the template will be
replicated.
Making the Template
The template is cut from 6mm or 1/4” MDF,
plywood or plastic to the shape required. The
guide bush offset needs to be allowed for
when calculating the shape of the template.
The template must be smaller by an amount
equal to the difference between the ‘outer
edge of the guide ring’ and the ‘outer edge of
the cutter’. See below for the offset
calculation. The edge of the template must be
free of imperfections as these will be
replicated in the final workpiece.

Safety Points
1. Disconnect power tool and attachment from power supply when not in
use, before servicing, when making adjustments and when changing
accessories such as cutters. Ensure switch is in “off” position and
cutter has stopped rotating.
2. Read and understand instructions supplied with power tool, attachment
and cutter.
3. Current Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for eye, ear and
respiratory protection must be worn. Keep hands, hair and clothes
clear of the cutter.
4. Before each use check cutter is sharp and free from damage. Do not
use if cutter is dull, broken or cracked or if any damage is noticeable or
suspected.
5. The maximum speed (nmax) marked on tool or in instructions or on
packaging shall not be exceeded. Where stated, the speed range
should be adhered to.
6. Insert the shank into the router collet at least all the way to the marked
line indicated on the shank. This ensures at least 3/4 of shank length is
held in collet. Ensure clamping surfaces are clean.
7. Check all fixing and fastening nuts, bolts and screws on power tool,
attachment and cutting tools are correctly assembled, tight and to
correct torque setting before use.
8. Ensure all visors, guards and dust extraction is fitted.
9. The direction of routing must always be opposite to the cutter’s
direction of rotation.
10. Do not switch power tool on with the cutter touching the workpiece.
11. Trial cuts should be made in waste material before starting any project.
12. Repair of tools is only allowed according to tool manufacturers
instructions.
