Battery Installation
for Kohler powered tractors
The following instructions have been revised. Keep this sheet with the Operator’s Manual for reference.
ADDENDUM
Removing the Battery
1. Disengage the power take off (PTO), set the
2. Remove the front grill (Fig. 1).
3. Remove the 1/4” wing nuts securing the battery
shield and battery (Fig. 1).
4. Disconnect the negative (black) ground cable
from the negative (–) battery post (Fig. 1).
5. Disconnect the positive (red) cable from the
positive (+) battery post (Fig. 1).
6. Remove the battery by lifting it up, then pulling
it out (directly toward you) from the tractor.
IMPORTANT: Always hold the battery vertical to avoid spilling battery acid.
POTENTIAL HAZARD
The battery terminals could short against
the metal tractor components.
Incorrect battery cable routing could
damage the cables.
WHAT CAN HAPPEN
Sparks can cause the battery gasses to
explode.
Damaged cables could short against metal
tractor components and cause sparks.
HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD
When removing or installing the battery, do
not allow the battery terminals to touch any metal parts of the tractor (below the headlights).
Always DISCONNECT the negative (black)
battery cable before disconnecting the positive (red) cable.
Always RECONNECT the positive (red)
battery cable before reconnecting the negative (black) cable.
Always keep the battery shield and
hold-down rods in place to protect and secure the battery.
Always route battery cables as illustrated.

1. Place the battery into the chassis with the
terminals to the rear (Fig. 1).
2. Route cables along side and over top of battery
as shown so they do not contact any sharp edges (Fig. 1).

3. Connect the positive (red) cable between
1/4–20 x 3/4” (19 mm) bolt head and the positive (+) battery post, as shown, and secure tightly with 1/4” wing nut (Fig. 1).
4. Connect the negative (black) cable between
1
1/4–20 x 3/4” (19 mm) bolt head and the negative (–) battery post, as shown, and secure tightly with 1/4” wing nut (Fig. 1).
5. Place the battery shield over battery and secure
to the chassis with hold–down rods and wing nuts (Fig. 1).
IMPORTANT: Keep the battery shield in place to protect the battery from heat.
6. Replace front grill (Fig. 1).
